First Look at Rutger Hauer as the ‘Hobo With a Shotgun’

All of the fake trailers from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse were memorable in their own way, so it’s no surprise to see some of them getting the feature length treatment. While we’ve already been teased with plenty of images from Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, we haven’t seen much of director Jason Eisener’s trailer-to-film adaptation for Hobo With a Shotgun. Until now that is.

Thanks to Twitch Film we now have our first look at Rutger Hauer as the infamous hobo. The image shows Hauer toting his trusty shotgun while pulling a shopping cart with what appears to be a dead or unconscious woman inside. Check it out below.

Hobo with a shotgun First Look at Rutger Hauer as the Hobo With a Shotgun

In case you need a refresher, here is a plot summary for Hobo With a Shotgun.

Hobo With A Shotgun tells the story of a vigilante homeless man who pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city’s crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how – with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation. Street justice will indeed prevail.

In addition to the image, Twitch got a chance to talk about the film with Jason Eisener who had this to say about working with the veteran Hauer.

“Working with Rutger Hauer is amazing. I have to say, I was really intimidated at first because I’ve only worked with local actors. I’ve never worked with someone who’s had so much experience…We’re having a blast making this film.”

I can understand Eisener’s excitement. When you’re dealing with such an unusual movie, I’m sure it helps to have an actor with more than 40 years of TV and film experience playing your lead character.

What do you think of this image? Do you like the idea behindĀ Hobo With a Shotgun or are you putting all your pulp fantasies into Machete?

  1. I’m sure this flick will be a hoot. I have no reason to be worried about it. =)

  2. I remember Machete, but I never saw the fake Grindhouse trailer for Hobo With A Shotgun.

Having said that, however, the actual movie looks like it’s going to be good and campy. :)

  3. At least it isn’t a remake. Anything original has a thumbs up from me.

  4. “time….to die”
