The revival of the movie musical is not dead yet - The Muppets sang their way through their big comeback film this past Thanksgiving, and next summer, the speakers in a theater near you will be thumping to the familiar rock n roll music that has pretty much defined all-American youth since the 1970s, thanks to the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway production, Rock of Ages.

Today we have the Rock of Ages trailer to share, and it features more famous faces and famous tunes than a Hollywood karaoke bar.

Check out the synopsis for Rock of Ages below, and then the trailer and poster:

Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Drew and Sherrie are two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it's love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges.

If there were too many bright stars blinding your vision while watching that trailer, Rock of Ages stars Julianne Hough (Footloose) and Diego Boneta (Paradise Lost) as the protagonists, Sherrie and Drew, with some more familiar faces in the supporting roles. Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Will Forte, and Mary J. Blige are all in the chorus line - with Tom Cruise front and center playing the role of legendary rocker, Stacee Jaxx.

The Rock of Ages movie is being directed by song-and-dance guru Adam Shankman (Step Up, So You Think You Can Dance), who managed to his adaptation of the popular musical Hairspray into a worldwide box office hit. Rock of Ages, it's safe to say, covers subject matter that's much more palatable to the greater masses (love and rock) and certainly has a musical score that will practically yank viewers of various ages into the theater to belt along with that thumping music we described at the start.

Will you be in the theater slowly waving your cellphone lights in the air - possibly singing a duet alongside your mom and dad?

Rock of Ages will be in theaters on June 1, 2012
