In case you are wondering, NO, you aren’t reading a title with a twist. It would appear that Rob Zombie is actually done with the Halloween franchise after his latest attempt, Halloween 2, hits theaters August 28, 2009.

In the quick video interview below with MTV, Zombie was asked if he would ever consider doing Halloween 3. Before the interviewer could even get the sentence out Zombie responded:

“No. I could not see that in any shape, way or form. Never!”

When asked why he stated:

“If I told you [why], you wouldn’t believe me.”

Well guess that settles that then.  No more questions Rob, have a good day thanks for stopping by. All your extremely loyal fans should be very pleased and satisfied with that answer.  WHAT?!? Come on Rob, seriously. This is the Comic Con, sci-fi, horror, action crowd you are talking to. If we can believe that a man can fly, that Nixon is still President in 1985, or Shia LaBeouf would be dating Megan Fox with a giant alien robot car in his garage then I’m pretty sure we can accept whatever reason you have for not doing another masterpiece of modern day horror.

The last time I talked about Halloween 2, I was probably a bit overzealous in my opinion of Zombie, his filmmaking styles and his approach to the movie. Still though, I have to give the guy credit for building a rather large fan base on just a handful of movies. He at least seemed gung-ho and confident in his abilities as a director and was certain he would bring something to the table that hadn’t been done before in both the horror genre and the Halloween franchise.

Rob Zombie

Now, he seems content to just brush off an obvious question about the future of, what is really, his horror legacy with a flippant answer. I’d say it was almost rude, but who knows what might have happened behiind the scenes that he may not be able (or want) to talk about.

It’s too bad really; I was actually looking forward to him directing a segment in the upcoming Heavy Metal film. Now with his amateurish response to a legitimate question, I have to wonder if he was even the right man to remake Halloween in the first place?

The way he answers the question is sort of telling. I have no information to back this up but my guess the reason he will “never” do a Halloween 3 was due to a creative control or editing conflict between him and the studios execs at Dimension Films backing Halloween 2.

He did, however, verify that “Weird Al” is in the film and said:

“I would get Weird Al back before I did ‘Halloween 3.’ Weird Al is awesome.”

You get kudos for putting him in there to begin with Mr. Zombie. I know it’s the last thing anyone reading this would expect from me but I hope Rob Zombie changes his mind and decides to make a Halloween 3. The movie industry is all about trying over and over again until you get it right. Uwe Bolle keeps trying so why not Rob Zombie?

So are you willing to accept Zombie’s answer for not making a third installment of Halloween and would you have liked to see a third Halloween movie?

Halloween 2 gets unmasked August 28th, 2009.

  1. Well thats good that he isn’t going to make any more Holloween movies. Maybe now he can get back to make some good movies like…., um…., well never mind I guess I can’t think of any.

  2. *shrugs* Who cares? His first “Halloween” was a mess. Raise your hand if you think the second one’s gonna be any better.

Seriously, dude, you act like you’re Academy Award-winning actor/writer/director Sean Penn. I mean, I don’t have a lot of respect for Penn’s dodgy interview style, but at least one could argue that he’s earned the right to be obtuse, vague or confrontational when asked what he considers to be a “stupid” question. Penn has a lot of artist “cred” to back up his more-than-occasional dick moment. Zombie, not so much.

  3. Rob Zombie is hot, that’s about it. I tried watching Halloween and I think it killed me. I think I’m dead. Just awful, let’s not keep remaking this stuff, m’kay?

  4. Regardless of whether or not one thinks his remake of Halloween was any good or not, or how good the sequel will be or not be, or even if there are those who simply despise Zombie’s films.. if he doesn’t want to make Halloween 3 (or a Heavy Metal segment, for that matter) he doesn’t have to. Directors, good and bad, turn down offers for a variety of reasons.

I am not the biggest fan of his re-imagined Halloween. I do however, have “guilty pleasure” in The Devil’s Rejects, so I don’t think he is a bad director overall. I kind of view it as 50/50. There are some hills you just can’t climb.

As for someone else taking over? So be it. Better yet, I will tip my hat to anyone who actually does make Halloween III…as in Season Of The Witch Halloween III, y’know? Killer kiddie masks, snakes, and bugs coming out. That sort of thing. Silver Shamrock reborn!

That’s not a joke, and it probably won’t happen. But seriously, folks. the previous Halloween franchise ran its course at the end second film, with the sequels (not counting Witch) being imitations and/or incoherent until Jamie Lee came back in H20. (and they knocked her off in Resurrection, and made it stupid again)…so let’s not drag Zombie over hot coals too much, alright?

  5. I kinda skeptical on this b/c this is the man who said that its pathetic for directors to remake films, and then he goes ahead and remakes “Halloween”, but I hope this is true.

  6. Well aside from the gov refund I got today int he mail is is another great birhtday present to receive via SR.

  7. Kind of a rude jerk in that interview. With that said thank god he will stop destroying the classic franchise. After ruining one of the greatest horror films of all time he should of just stopped.

  8. WTF? Weird Al is in this? As what, a geek who is fluent in Javascript as well as Klingon???

Wonder who he’ll play? I gotta see this movie just for that!

  9. I didn’t Zombie’s first attempt at Halloween and I REFUSE to see this one. Personally I think he dropped the ball with Micheal Myers, with the exception of casting Tyler Mane as M.M. Other than that Rob Zombie should never have been given Halloween.

  10. Idk. Maybe Rob sees a bit of himself in Michael Myers. Maybe he’s like Ledger who’s work was dragging him to the deep end. I agree that no matter what his reason is, it’s for the good of everyone Halloween 3 wasn’t even bout Michael myers. Maybe he’ll skip it to 4. Maybe that’s what it means. ;)

  11. Anyway screw what you think. The mor blood and gore the better the first Halloween was kinda douche. Thank god for Rob’s remake. You guys just can’t handle the gore and blood of the new age stuff so stick with “Psycho”. (In my opinion Psycho was good. Don’t get me wrong)

  12. I guess everyone out there that thinks Zombie’s Halloween sucked failed to realise it was a remake in a way but also he added his own twist to it. Stupid! i loved all his movies and i hope he keeps making more. Hes great on making movies with tons of gore and horror. Everyone who doesnt like obviously doenst know what i good movie is. Alot of you probably think that The Devil Wears Prada was a fantastic movie!

  13. “Everyone who doesnt like obviously doenst know what i good movie is. Alot of you probably think that The Devil Wears Prada was a fantastic movie!”

LMAO…Got to love those ignorant remarks.

  14. There’s a very simple answer as to why he won’t do another one. He probably ends part 2 so that a third won’t be possible. The ending is probably going to be a truly horrific conclusion to the greatest horror film series of all time, and that’s what Comic-con doesn’t want to believe.

  15. I think you all have problem I like the remake. Its a remake are you saying the movie was bad or that you just think to highly of the old movie?

  16. I THINK THAT ROB ZOMBIE AND SHERI MOON ZOMBIE SHE DO A HALLOWEEN 3 BECAUSE THEY MAKE THE BEST MOVIES TOGETHER I HAVE ALL OF HIS MOVIES HE HAS MADE AND HALLOWEEN AND DEVIL REJECTS R MY TOP FAVORITE PLEASE PLEASE ROB ZOMBIE MAKE A HALLOWEEN 3

  17. I really think they should make a other rob zombie film michael myers. Is 1 of my favorite monster and I don’t want it 2 end please make a other 1

  18. I think everyone is jumping to conclusions without even seeing the 2nd film. Personally I really liked what he did with the first one. I like all R.Z’s films, so I trust whatever he dose will be great. But hey let’s not forget that he also said back then that he wouldn’t do a sequel. So only time will tell.
P.S. I’m syked to see H2 its gunna rock.

  19. Dude listen!!! HALLOWEEN 3 ISN’T ABOUT MICHAEL MYERS!!! Its about a witch! Rob zombie is skipping it cus even after it came out the first time ppl din’t like it as much! He wants to continue with Mchael Myers story.

  20. The original francise was great, but season of the witch sucked ass, rob zombie should so make a halloween 3 but make it about michael, and I liked what he’s done with remake

  21. my opinion is that the first halloween remake was good but the second one was so much better!! i love the gore and i love the drama and everything it is so good! please remake the rest of the halloweens lets make a petition and send it to zombie

  22. Weinstein said that they’re making a third, but Zombie isn’t going to come back, and its also gonna be in 3D(suprise).

  23. AGGGHHHHH! WHY Rob WHY! I didn’t want to believe it, and here it is. You MUST remake Halloween 3 man there is NO F@$#&N REASON that is valid enough for you NOT to, except of course if John Carpenter put a GUN to your head and said “If you remake it you’re DEAD”….for you NOT to remake it would not only disappoint your fans, but it would also deprive us of an opportunity to see what your unique vision would produce out of such an original idea cuz let’s face it man, Season of the witch was GENIUS. It is right up there with The Fog (NOT the remake; another Carpenter flick I would love to see him cover) as far as originality is concerned….he HAS to do it. In my honest opinion, it would be a big big mistake for him NOT to.

  24. THANK GOD. Rob Zombie totally ruined Michael Myers but i give him props for trying. Im in love with John Carpenter’s creation and with modern technology today,if john decided to do Halloween 3 himself, this movie would kick ass three times as much! I love you Michael Myers and all fans of his you rock. Hopefully this movie turns out as great as i hope because remember there was never a Halloween 3

  25. The remake was ok he could’ve done better, honestly. But personally I think Halloween 2 was better but it wasn’t really a even close to a decent movie. But I think that he should finish what he started because if you think about it he’ll be a idiot if he doesn’t, because he just leaves it alone and if you make a remake which has eight movies in a series you should make 8 more remakes!

  26. i thought the halloween remake was pretty decent, but halloween 2 was in my opinion AWFUL, he has totally slaughtered the entire franchise in that one film, the only good thing about the film was the deaths and how brutal they were, but the rest of it was terrible, i mean why o why would you introduce michaels mother and a white horse as a figment of his imagination……..very very poor, and pointless. im glad hes not making halloween 3, now lets get someone in there to make halloween 3 better, this time bring back certain suspense which made michael myers such a greatly feared killer, the other thing i loved about the original films was when in pursuit of a victim he always seemed to be walking calmly towards them whereas the victim was frantically trying to escape.

  27. The new movie, I am sorry to say was terrible. Rob Zombie is a good director, please do not get me wrong on that aspect. But his Halloween remakes have been just horrendous.

We need someone to get in there and do these movies true justice. They are not only classics but part of movie history that should be redone, and redone correctly.

I hope they get someone who is a fan of the movies, who can finish them off with the class they so deserve.

So many movies are being redone and they are fully screwing them up. Like these movies, along with … Friday The 13th, Amity Ville Horror and now they are redoing the Nightmare On Elm Street movies with no Robert England.

If you can’t do better… just leave the classics alone. Screw making your money. Let true horror fans have our classics in peace.

  28. And you are absolutely right.we need a real horror fanatic to give Michael myers his king of horror title back! If only John Carpenter would do the upcoming Halloween 3 we could really dispose of the ruined MIchael Myers and bring back what we all knew him as.Is it just me or are you all wondering what the creator of The Halloween series has to say about these trashy remakes?

  29. I think horror movies should start making more sense now days, and should be a little bit more gorey and scarier than they appear to look on the trailers. like halloween 2. the trailer made it seem like it was going to be hella awesome, but in my opinion its like a 5 outta 10. a little shitty. some horror flicks can be really cheesy!!!! come on directors!!!! the shining was scary and there r no movies like that anymore.
