While the core characters on Riverdale are all high school students, their parents are just as crucial to the story and bring just as much drama. The only parents on the show who are still living together are the Blossoms, aside from Cheryl virtually all the teenage main characters are living with only one parent. Divorce, jail, and music careers keep the various parents separated, and cause conflict with how they all choose to raise their children. The Cooper's recent break up is so volatile that it has even turned violent.

One parent who has not been introduced yet is Hiram Lodge, Veronica's father. Veronica and her mother moved to Riverdale in the pilot after Hiram was arrested. Yet he has continued to have a huge influence not only on his family, but the whole town. Without ever being seen, Hiram has bought the old drive-in movie theater, made business deals with the Southside Serpents, found out that his wife was seeing Fred Andrews, had some kind of shady business deal going on with the Blossoms, and threatened his wife to control his daughter.

And it looks like he's not done yet. According to TVLine, actor Mark Consuelos has been cast as Hiram Lodge in the second season of Riverdale. Hiram is apparently getting out of jail earlier than expected, and headed to Riverdale to reconnect with his wife and daughter.

Camila Mendes and Mark Consuelos

Perhaps best known as Kelly Ripa's sometimes co-host -- and husband -- Consuelos has also been seen in A Walk Among the Tombstones, American Horror Story Asylumand All My Children. Recently, he has been on the show Pitch as Oscar Aguella.

Consuelos' role on Pitch might be a bit of a snag on his way to Riverdale. The show has not yet been renewed for a second season -- Riverdale has. If Pitch does get picked up for season 2, Consuelos will stay with it, and Riverdale will most likely have to find a new Hiram Lodge.

Currently, many of the characters consider Lodge a likely suspect in the murder of Jason Blossom. Since Jason's murderer is going to be revealed in the second to last episode of the current season, it does not seem likely that Hiram is the killer -- not if he is getting out of jail. It does not mean he did not orchestrate the death, however.

When Hiram rejoins his wife and daughter, things are probably not going to be as he remembered. Veronica may not be so quick to forgive him for ruining various people's lives -- including her friend Ethyl Muggs. Or for threatening her mother. And both the adult Lodges are going to have to figure out if their marriage can survive Hermione's feelings for Fred Andrews. Seems like drama as usual for the people in Riverdale.

Riverdale continues April 27 with ‘To Riverdale and Back Again’ at 9 pm ET on The CW.
