Riverdale: Casting Details on Betty's Long-Lost Brother

Riverdale casting details reveal new information about Betty's (Lili Reinhart) brother, Chic Cooper, who will debut in season 2. The CW has grown its lineup of comic book-adapted series over the past few years, expanding their DC TV universe to include four - soon to be five - shows, in addition to iZombie, which is based on a Vertigo title of the same name. Plus, this year The CW premiered Riverdale, a dark adaptation of Archie Comics' titular character and his famous friends. On Riverdale, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) have plenty to deal with - not the least of which being murder, attempted murder, and all kinds of secrets hidden underneath the surface of their seemingly idyllic small town.

While the Riverdale season 1 finale concluded the main storyline concerning the murder of Jason Blossom, it also set the stage for even more mysteries in season 2. A cliffhanger in the season 1 finale left the fate of Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) in the balance, while elsewhere, Alice Cooper (Madsen Amcheck) revealed to Betty that she'd had a child before Betty's older sister Polly (Tiera Skovbye) - meaning Betty has a long-lost brother somewhere. It was previously revealed Chic Cooper will join Riverdale season 2 around the midway point, but new casting details offer more insight into the character and reveal when exactly he'll make his debut.

That Hashtag Show is reporting that Chic Cooper will first appear in episode 10 of season 2, and reveals a full casting breakdown for the new character. Take a look:

No actors have been rumored to have auditioned for the role just yet, but given the description, fans can expect whoever plays Chic to be just as blond as the rest of the Cooper family. However, given Chic's upbringing, he's sure to be quite different from Betty and Polly - and perhaps an antagonistic force in their lives as well as the lives of Alice and Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro). Certainly, considering all the secrets in Riverdale, Chic is sure to have some of his own, some of which will undoubtedly have a major impact on the Cooper family, and Betty in particular.

Based on what we know about season 2, Betty will be "broken" and the show will delve more into her mental health. Plus, she'll be at the center of Riverdale season 2's mystery, which will no doubt tie into Chic's appearance, but that won't be the only big revelation as showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has teased "a couple of big twists." So while Chic will certainly play a major role in Riverdale season 2, arriving about midway through the season and sticking around as a recurring guest star, there will be plenty going on with Betty this year. Still, fans of Archie Comics who wanted to see Chic make an appearance will no doubt be looking forward to the introduction of Betty's long-lost brother on this season of Riverdale.
