RIP Joel Siegel

joel-siegel.jpgJoel Siegel has died at the age of 63 from that insidious demon known as cancer.

If you’re over 30, Mr. Siegel was probably the first movie critic you remember seeing on television. He’d been on Good Morning America since 1981 and I remember watching him back in the day. Truthfully, with everybody and their brother being movie critics these days (myself included) I haven’t seen a review from him in a very long time, except for his one recent review of Clerks II, where Kevin Smith spewed a number of less than kind comments (to put it mildly) regarding the fact that Mr. Siegel walked out of that film due to a certain extremely vulgar scene. At least I sided with Mr. Siegel on that one.

I know he meant a lot to many people and inspired many of us writing online about movies today to do so.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
