lorne-from-angelAndy Hallett, an actor/singer who is best known as Lorne from TV’s Angel, has died at the young age of 33. He got his big break when legendary singer Patti Labelle brought him up on stage to sing, according to IMDB.com.  From there, he became a singer/songwriter who performed at various places in Los Angeles.

It was at one of those nightspots where Angel and Buffy creator Joss Whedon discovered Andy and cast him as Lorne (short for Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan), a friendly demon who just wanted to sing.  He could also “read” people when they sang, being able to tell what’s really going on with them.

Though I’ve only seen seasons 1-4 so far (I’ll be watching season 5 ASAP), I really enjoyed the three-part arc at the end of season 2 which featured Lorne, Angel, and the gang heading to Lorne’s homeland of Pylea to rescue Cordelia.  At the end of part 3, I commented to my girlfriend (a big-time Angel fan), that the cast, crew, and writers were firing on all cylinders with that arc!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Andy’s family, friends, cast mates and fans.  To die of heart disease at 33 is just too sad.  His father was at his side.  Rest in Peace, Andy.

  1. The end of season 2 is where Lorne really becomes one of the gang and comes into his own. I loved that whole adventure into his old world.

I remember watching that with my mum, who wasn’t a fan and so barely took it in, but when she saw his head in the basket she got all upset as she really liked him. I think most took an instant liking to the character.

If you’ve not seen season 5 yet I won’t ruin it, but I think all Angel fans agree Lorne gets one of the best moments at the end.

Real shame about Andy, especially when so young. He brought that character to life.

  2. Yeah,
I heard about this yesterday .
    Tragic .
My condolonces to his familly and friends .

  3. 33, wow, that is wayyyyy to young to be taken. RIP Andy.

  4. It is indeed too young.

  5. Oh.My.God.

I just can’t believe this, I’m in total shock! This is worse than Ledger!

First Quinn, now Hallett – is Angel cursed?

  6. Rest In Peace Andy Hallett

  7. Damn this is awful news. Lorne was an excellent character and Hallett really brought him to life. Even though he had little to no experience he fit the role perfect and was a terrific actor. He will be greatly missed.

  8. So sad to hear this. I was a HUGE angel fan myself.
It’s the only show that I can cue up every so often
and end up watching the entire series all over again.
Great show. Very sad news. He certainly left his mark
    on Angel/Buffy fans.

  9. This news just sucks. I read about it in the Worcester, MA paper this morning (where Andy went to college) and the water works started. Why do the good ones have to go so young?
