Dolores Catania is giving fans of The Real Housewives of New Jersey a reason as to why her boyfriend, David Principe, has not proposed yet, and whether or not she even still wants to marry him. Fans were first introduced to Dolores in 2016 during the show's seventh season. Prior to becoming a full-time housewife, however, Dolores appeared in the background of quite a few episodes of the series. As a longtime friend of RHONJ stars Teresa Giudice and the Manzos, Dolores was at many of the events and get-togethers the two families held and, therefore, was aware of how filming worked long before becoming a housewife herself.

Dolores and her boyfriend, David, have been together for quite a few years now, and many are wondering why the pair has not gotten engaged yet. This curiosity stems from Dolores' firm stance last season that she wanted a greater commitment from David. A majority of the season revolved around her discontent that she was helping David build a house, but he wasn't showing the same level of commitment towards her. She claimed she would not move into his new house without receiving a ring from him. She ended the season of Real Housewives of New Jersey by expressing how annoyed she was that David didn't take his chance and propose to her when she was almost guaranteed to say yes.  It seems like Dolores has since had a change of heart.

This season features a whole new Dolores. During an interview with E! News, Dolores decided to ease some confusion surrounding her seemingly sudden change of heart. According to Dolores, she understands that people think her relationship should be at another level. However, she says she likes where they are. Dolores said, "David and I have a relationship that a lot of people aren't used to, but I'm very happy with it. At this point in my life, I think it's good for what I'm looking for. I just wish more people would understand that." She went on to explain further that she is old-school and wanted to do things traditionally, meaning you get engaged and then move in together. It never meant that she wanted to end the relationship if she didn't get engaged; she just wouldn't move in together. The reason she was so upset last season was because she thought they would grow apart if they didn't live together, but the RHONJ couple has actually gotten much closer without having taken that step.

The big question is whether Dolores even still wants to get engaged to David at this point. From what she's said on the show, it seems like Dolores is content with where she is in her relationship. During the interview, Dolores basically says exactly that. She says she would have liked to get engaged because that is the next natural step in a relationship, but it is not that important to her. She claims it clearly isn't a deal-breaker for her because if it was, she would not continue to stay with him without it. "If it was so important to me and it didn't happen, I don't think I'd be able to stay with him. That's what people don't understand, you know? I'm not dependent on David for anything. I'm not a co-dependent person," she said. She sees herself as an independent person, both financially and in every other part of life.

It seems like Dolores is happy with her relationship status now, but it is unclear if it will stay this way. Her stance changed so drastically from last season, so she might change her mind again. Also, it would be interesting to see if David finally takes the leap and proposes to Dolores sometime soon. They both seem to be, and claim to be, happy with where things are at right now, but no one has ever been sad to have been proposed to. While every Real Housewives of New Jersey fan wants Dolores and her ex-husband, Frank, to get back together, it seems like their hopes will be crushed as she is happy with David. Never say never, though.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
