Don't Forget the Lyrics

by Bruce Simmons

I sat down to watch Don’t Forget the Lyrics with Wayne Brady and write a review for you, the readers. I like Wayne Brady. I loved him on Whose Line is it Anyway. I had high aspirations for entertainment.

I failed.

The first singer hit the stage, and sang so far off key, that I have discovered how spoiled I have been by American Idol.

Lost Season 3 Finale

Lost Season 3 Finale

So Season Three of Lost is finally over and the finale was definitely a mind-bender.

I’ve complained about Lost here at Screen Rant for a long time, but I have to admit that in the last half dozen episodes or so it seems that the producers/writers have responded to viewer complaints about the show and it’s improved considerably, getting back to the quality level of the first season. During the first half of this season Lost was looking like it was losing it’s momentum, especially with the painfully drawn out, go-nowhere captured Jack/Kate/Sawyer saga. But once they dumped that storyline and got us back to the beach, the show took a turn for the better.

Spoilers follow, so if you haven’t seen it, I would recommend you stop reading.

Heroes Season One Finale

Heroes Season One Finale

So Season 1 of Heroes is finally over and it pains me to say this, but I didn’t love the finale. I just thought it was “OK.”

Especially following on the heels of the previous episode, which was amazing, the final episode titled How to Stop an Exploding Man just seemed a bit anti-climactic to me. Maybe it was because there was such a huge sense of anticipation and excitement leading into it, that the episode could not meet expectations.

Smallville Season 6 Finale Packs In A Ton Of Stuff

As has become tradition with Smallville, the final episode of Season 6 has packed in more stuff than the last half dozen episodes combined. There will be heavy spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t seen the episode yet, I suggest you come back afterwards.

Here is a quick summary of some of what takes place in this very busy episode:

Recap - Heroes Season One: Landslide

Holy cow… Last night’s episode of Heroes title Landslide was amazing.

It was the penultimate episode of Heroes‘ first season, and if that was the next to last episode, I can’t wait to see the final one next week!

Lost: The Tattoo Episode?

Lost: The Tattoo Episode?

I gotta tell ya… the ONLY reason I’m hanging in there with Lost is that I’m a coward. I’m afraid that the week after I stop watching there will be some huge revelation that will finally make sticking with this damned show worthwhile.

In the meantime, we continue to suffer…

At the end of last week’s episode, the TV version of “Movie Trailer Announcer Guy” says dramatically that three mysteries will be revealed in this week’s episode.

Yeah, right.

Review: Jericho - Spring 2007 Premiere

Review: Jericho - Spring 2007 Premiere

After a long wait, Jericho is finally back and it at least partially answers a lot of questions. CBS’ Jericho is following somewhat in the footsteps of Fox TV’s 24 and American Idol in broadcasting only new episodes sequentially, without any reruns to gum things up and annoy viewers. Although this puts a long gap between what are now know as the “Fall” and “Spring” seasons, I think it’s a good idea for shows like Lost, Heroes and those mentioned above. All of these shows are sequential in nature, depending on the episodes that came before, and it’s aggravating to see a rerun in between new episodes on shows like these.

Jericho is one of those “ongoing mystery” shows that were spawned by the success of ABC’s Lost. It also happens to be one of the shows (along with NBC’s Heroes) which has taken that original concept and improved it substantially. These shows have done that by actually moving their respective plots forward and revealing what’s happening in the story and who the characters are at a pace that doesn’t leave the viewer feeling like they’re getting jerked around.

24 Season Six Premiere

24 Season Six Premiere

Ok, I can breathe again.

24 is the only show on television that can get my heart pumping while sitting on the couch. It is, to use a word I don’t believe I’ve used on this site before - exciting. I thought that the first two hours, although good, were relatively low on the viewer adrenaline scale compared to what’s come before, but hours 3 & 4 of the show made up for it and it’s back in the groove.

There will be spoilers here, so if you haven’t seen it, don’t read on. Oh, if you missed the first 4 hours, you can actually buy them on DVD today! Talk about striking while the iron is hot.

The Apprentice L.A. (Season 6) Jumps The Shark

The Apprentice L.A. (Season 6) Jumps The Shark

I’ve always been a big fan of The Apprentice and in preparing to write this was suprised to find that we’re already on the sixth season! Unfortunately I think that The Apprentice L.A. has jumped the shark this season.

I don’t follow ratings very much, but from what I’ve heard last season’s show slipped from previous years, so I suppose the producers thought it was time to throw some changes in the mix. In my opinion they’ve made the show at best silly and at worst just plain dumb.

Oh, the whole drama of trying to become the ultimate Type A personality is still there, but they’ve thrown some really odd stuff into the mix that really dilutes the core concept of the show, and unless they go back to basics next season (if there IS a next season) the ratings are only going to get worse.

Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Premiere

Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Premiere

Gut wrenching.

That’s what the two hour premier of season three of Battlestar Galactica was.

I’ll tell you what: you KEEP your “we’re oh so smart and witty” season premiere of Lost, and I’ll take the riveting drama that is BSG any day.

This was two hours of absolutely riveting and for lack of a better word, uncomfortable TV viewing.
