I don’t want to read your entire review for spoilers, bit I guessed it would get that rating and I know it won’t be nearly as successful as Iron man…especially with the Happening also out this weekend. Are you going to review that movie as well?

I just got back from the midnight screening. I’d say 3/5 stars. Stark got HUGE cheers, but I was thrilled with the small moments.

Yeah, this Hulk is mean. I need to see it again, but I’d say it’s a DVD purchase for me when I see it next. I’m gonna see Iron Man tomorrow.

ps-ILM should’ve handled the FX, but Rhythm & Hues did a good job.

Also saw it last night, Great movie and 5 times better than the Ang Lee Hulk. IMHO, 4 out of 5. Marvel has done a terrific job with this film. Loved the Easter egg hunt that starts from the credits til the very end of the film. The first appearance of Hulk in the shadows feels like a scene straight from “Alien”. It action pack 75% of the movie and worth paying $9 just to see the final fight scene which last 26 minutes! Saw Ironman 4 times (4.5 out of 5) will see this one at least two more.

P.S.
The little boys will LOVE this movie, but beware it can get very intense on the action scenes.

I felt that the movie was fantastic and pleasantly suprised in the overall quality of the plot. In regards to the cameo appearances, it was awesome to see the great Rickson Gracie “play” the role of the martial arts instructor who teaches Bruce how to control his anger. According to myth, Rickson has won over 100 street fights with no losses in his native Brazil in order to defend his family name and the martial arts they created.

It might just be wishful thinking by fanboys : ), but i heard that it was Thor that caused the storm during the second encounter. It might be just me but i did feel like they put alot of focus into the storm. Anyways enough dreaming lol The movie rocked, worth watching twice just to catch all the little easter eggs, they mentioned Caps alot in the film, too bad they had to get rid of the scene

This movie was as solid as anything, I was very impressed and found nothing wrong with it. The style and pace of the movie was perfect, like a well written and illustrated comic mini-series, the characters and fight scenes were good. I think other sites need to be a little more fair with this movie.

A strong 4/5 from me. I don’t think re-watchability is that fair a grade simply because darker movies usually aren’t that re-watchable, eye-candy movies are (transformers, ironman, 300 etc.). I mean I have no interest in watching Good Will Hunting again but it was perfect, no? Or how about Million Dollar Baby?

The little easter eggs were great. I think this is the first time we hear Ferigno’s real voice in a movie; the man is still huge. The Bill Bixby tribute nearly made me misty. It is obvious that this was extremely influenced by the TV show.

The Hulk fight scenes, 5/5; the rest, 3/5; that makes it 4/5.

What was the thing with Stan Lee? Why did he just drop it? I thought they were going to come back and have a short plot side path with him. This is the first time they gave him first person prominence in a movie, rather than an incidental scene.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SCENE?
In the ads, as seen at the front end of the Jimmy Kimmel piece, Banner is talking with someone across the living room from him: “I’ve got a problem. There are aspects of my personality that I can’t control.” Did I fall asleep or was this scene not in the movie?

jc in chicago: 70 minuntes of the film was edited mostly because Marvel felt it sowed the pace of the film. All 70 mins will be shown on the DVD directors cut(rumored Cap is in that 70 mins)! Also the bottle of soda that Stan was drink had Banner’s gamma posioned blood in it. That’s way Stan dropped the bottle.
For SR community: IMHO, PLEASE see it at least twice or get the word out if you liked “Incredible Hulk” because it needs a nice boost this week for a sequel! NO BOOT-LEGS…yet.:P

I love the extra scene after credits thing- but come on, tell people- everyone get upset when they learn day after they see the film, oh yea there is a cool scene after the credits. People was pissed of after xmen 3, and again after Iron Man - and now expecting a extra scene after hulk credits gets pisses that there was noone.. So yes- instead of putting the tony stark scene bedfore credits, why not a - obs - extra scene after credits sign in the cinema on a poster? Cause all in all, noone stay for credits except die hard fans. So by putting a extra scene after credits and informing people about it beforehand, woho- people will sit and watch the credits ….

Come on Hollywood, be smart…..

I really enjoyed this movie … unlike most people, I liked the 2003 Hulk, but this one is better as i didnt have to wait for almost an hour to see the green goliath.

there was one thing i had a question about though maybe the bad guy/s in (If there is going to be one) the next hulk movie could be the Thunderbolt Hulkbusters …

If i can remember right didnt Stark say ‘I have an answer to your little problem?” … And wasnt Ross in charge of a hulkbuster team or something like that? … Maybe there not setting him up for the Avengers. unless there just setting up Banner for the Avengers minus the Hulk

Or another theroy ive thought of (Not sure if anyone has already) is maybe the Avengers are formed to battle the hulk? and Bruce ends up joining the Avengers after Bruce learns to control the Hulk.

I will say one thing about this movie that i didnt like was how some of the scenes didnt link correctly for me, for example …

When Betty and Banner left Betty’s house and ended up at the university and all of a sudden, the army guys turned up almost like out of the blue.

and the end fight … The hulk is the man!!! BUT … im not sure how he is in the comics but in most of the final fight he was getting owned… to me it seemed like the hulk would of been beaten if it werent for those chains that Abom threw into the air … I remember seeing a picture where the hulk punched his fist through Abom’s mouth… i was waiting for something like that to happen haha, where the Hulk would just go crazy and beat the snot out of him but it didnt happen.

All in all, i really Enjoyed this movie … Even more than Ironman. I didnt like Ironman as much as everyone else did but still thought it was kool.

I agree that this is a better movie, where Ang Lee had a better Hulk. Also the villain here was crap. Looked like an Orc. Only one encounter with Hulk, and it was in the city so there’s only so much you can do.

I agree, Vic, this Hulk was more ferocious and downright scarey. Having said all this, I’d like to see this movie again. As perfect as Iron Man was, the story doesn’t appeal to me enough to watch it again (maybe since I saw so many trailers leading up to it.)

You have to make the character a little vulnerable in a movie. If you see the character as unbeatable from the beginning were is the buildup and/or drama when he gets to the big fight scene at the end. It would be like who gives a crap about the last half of the movie, nothing can beat Hulk so why bother.

Gravatar
carlos said,
June 25th, 2008

i agree with ink, people get too wraped up in their fandom to realize that certain changes have to be made in a character, in order to make the translation to film. vulnerbility is important for a good story, i didn’t mind the hulk not being perfect, he’s not perfect (he’s a monster)but he came out on top, and mighty pissed to boot(he was going to break the abominations neck until betty told him not to). so go hulk and enjoy the flick, at least marvel is putting out quality work unlike movies such as catwoman.

I just saw it last night, and I was really surprised how much I liked it. I love the nods to Cap, the RDJ’s appearance (and the banter between him and Gen Ross). Overall great movie.

One thing that would’ve been cool (in talking about the expanded Marvel Universe) is when Bruce and Betty arrive in New York and we see the Manhattan skyline, they should have had a little Spidey swinging between the buildings in the dinstance, just a second would do. Not a cameo, just to further the notion that other Marvel heroes are out there

The comment that says that the thunder storm in the movie may have been a link to Thor has got me all excited! Does anyone else think that this has any real meaning or just fantasy? The Hulk is my favourite hero movie yet,Hulk had more to over come than the Batman reboot and took more risks by pulling in all these many fasinating aspects of his world.Iron Man was great too and i’m glad Marvel are leading the way with their heroes.Way ahead of DC as they always were in the comics!!Still looking forward to the next Batman!

Good call Vic,

I saw this again today with a girlfriend that usually wouldn’t even care about this.
She absolutly loved it!
And the biggest applause I got with my crowd, both times was the Hulk Thunderclap to save Betsy.
Yeah Hulk was violent and didn’t think about collateral damage because Banner admits that’s he’s not quite in control during the Hulk events.(Awesome).

Speaking of collateral damage, Ross orders a 50 cal strike on more than one building. Haha.
Those bullets don’t stop when they hit a building. “Homeland Intervention ya think.” lol

I loved the way the film kept documenting the hulk outs. “31 days since last event.”
And totally agree that the fight scenes had continuity and logic. (Awesome).

Norton looked so much like Bill Bixby in some of the scenes I’m totally convnced that he must have watched alot of the tv show episodes.
I really like that the ending scene showed Banner in control. And now prepped for Avengers.
Stark was awesome, but was he talking about The Hulk or Abomination. We didn’t see them actually hauling Abom away. And he wasn’t dead. ??!

Simple yet breathtaking film!!
I liked everything about this movie.

But that Sprit trailer looked very weak.

What is with this movie? I also like it the more I think about it. I MUST see it again.

With all its veneer and hype, I have little interest in seeing Iron Man again soon.I can’t even tell ya WHY it’s “growing on me,” (a little Ang Lee Hulk lingo there.) Didn’t particularly care for the actors, the orc clone bad guy, the settings, the ReBixbying, the LACK OF HUE, or the romance (I do like that we were not treated to a Sam Raimey Lover’s Angst for half the movie).

But I must see it again. Not even Gamma Poodles can stop me.

Haha JC in Chicago, yeah you have a point about the Raimey lovefest that seems to anger every Spider Man fan.

I think what’s fun about Hulk is the entire movie is a face paced chase.

And there’s 3 acts that all climax in a spectacular way.

The helocopter crash at the colledge was simply breath taking on the big screen.

One thing I also liked alot was the weapon sound effects were very authentic. The 50 cal. especally, you could really feel each round hitting you in 5.1 surround. (Awesome).

Keep the Superhero movies fast paced and place the girlfriend in the backgorund, thanks Marvel.
You guys are 2 and 0, :-)

It’s time Marvel got more behind this film and show a little more belief in it by announcing a follow-up,the fans have given it a huge thumbs up…now it’s up to the main men to give the new movie a huge boost.
This movie wasn’t about just advertising toys the way Spider-Man 3 was…so c’mon Marvel,Hulk’s back on his feet, don’t just leave him now!

I was just thinking that the villains in Marvel movies are some how left in the shadows but Abomination I think has been a first class effort!!Mabey Doc Oc in Spidey 2 was the best for me…but Dr Doom in the FF films has to be the worst!!!Shocking!

As a lifelong Hulk fan, I thought this movie was perfect, all that I hoped it would be. It reflected the comic book ethos without fault and credit should go to all those involved, particularly after the 2003 version received such a negative response. It was also a good choice to throw in elements of the TV series. So glad Marvel were more involved. In response to comments about the Hulk looking like he was submissive when fighting the Abomination, if you do watch it again, look at the close up when Hulk is pinned to the wall and his eyes seem to change again; he pulls Abomination off him as his strength increases, shouts ‘Hulk Smash’ and goes on to beat him. Remember at the start of the fight, he still had the effects of the serum given to him to change him back to banner, which was infered by the fact he didn’t change when jumping out the helicopter until he alsmost hit the ground. The film had a great pace and the acting top drawer. Hulk CGI was spot on. 5 out of 5 for me

Interesting piece there Andy about both Hulks making the same cash so far but new Hulk deemed a success by Marvel.
New Hulk had almost no-hype/lots of negative build up to it’s launch but has had lots of great reviews…plus it’s a great movie…Marvel have never hinted yet at another follow-up but I have a feeling we’ll see one in the making soon or Hulk having a big part in future hero movies other wise it would make a total fool of the inclusion of Tony Stark and all the hints regarding the Avengers.
We never thought we’d see a 2nd Hulk movie even just a couple of years ago,and we got a beauty of a movie.
