Vic,

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. I will say that if you saw only 15 minutes, you didn't see any of it (for all practical purposes). Part of the movie (especially towards the beginning) is a little torturous, but as the movie goes on, it all starts to come together and make sense. The last part of the movie is especially well done; it blew me away.

Charlie Kaufman's work isn't for everybody. After all, you liked Malkovich and I didn't (what little I saw). I think it comes down to being in the right mood to see it, as you said.

Brian, FYI, I tried to watch "Eternal Sunshine" but just couldn't get into it. I think I lasted maybe 15 minutes.

Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood, or maybe watching the torturous path of two dysfunctional people falling in love isn't my idea of fun.

In any case from what little I saw I can see why the screenplay was so highly acclaimed... I think it must be incredibly difficult to write down what seems like such natural, rambling conversation.

Perhaps if I'd seen it in the theater where one if more committed to finishing a movie I would have enjoyed it.

This movie was my favorite movie of last year. You should really give Adaptation a chance. It's not as good, but it's certainly worth watching.

No worries, Simone. I actually consider it a compliment to be confused with Vic. :D

Vic,

It's time to stop pushing Eternal Sunshine down the list. It's worth seeing. I didn't have a problem with the weirdness of Malkovich; what soured me to it was how fake all the relationships seemed. They weren't believable enough for me. I don't know... it has been a few years since I saw it; maybe I need to watch it again and see if I appreciate it more the second time around.

Hey Simone, credit where credit is due... I didn't write the review, my cccasional (will I *ever* be able to type that word without a spell-check?) co-contributor Brian did. :-)

Brian, nicely written, I've had that in my Netflix queue for quite a while but I keep pushing it down the list. BTW, I happened to enjoy Being John Malkovich wierdness and all. :P

At least I know now we have something in common Vic, and that is if we dont get a movie, we hate it. I also hated "Being John MalkovichW with a passion, and that is because I really was just clueless about what the film was about. When Asaptation was released, I begged off.

I am not a big fan of Winslet and Carrey so when Eternal Sunshine came out last year you would expect me to snub the film, I didnt, I even went to see it on the first day. And I LOVED it. For the same reasons you've already explained. It made me think of my past relationships, that no matter how hurt you become from them, there's a part of you that wants to just hold on to those memories, whether good or bad, especially if that's all you have got left.

I then decided to make peace with Kaufman's work, I watched Malkovich again (I actually own it on DVD) and bought the Adaptation DVD and I love both films now. IMHO, Adaptation is his best work so far.
