I thought it was great, and the final act with the dragon just blew me away! Before the dragon part, the film was a tad slow, but I agree, 4 stars out of 5.

Prob won’t see it…

But not because of the review.
I won’t support
this film based on the CGI characters.

Just my weird thing..

Beowulf is the best movie since the 300, no exaggeration. I’ve been waiting for a Beowulf movie for years and was not dissapointed in the least. This movie rules. I left the movie with only one question in mind: Who would win, Beowulf or Achilles? My money’s on Beowulf!

I’m sure from what I’m reading that its good I just think this CGI / Internet Video orgasim of media HD and Blu ray is making me ill….
^
And I need the media software to settle and slow down a little.
(But I’m outnumbered as usual)

Some of you may actually wonder, that Beowulf is not from the 1960s but rather a thousand years older. ;)
For those who are REALLY interested I recommend the most excellent translation by Seamus Heaney (ISBN 0-374-11119-7, bilingual edition).

I read an older version, not Seamus Heaney’s acclaimed version. I think I was 17 or so, 1993 or thereabouts. I then read Michael Crichton’s EATERS OF THE DEAD, which was a lot like Beowulf.

Steve,

I’m with you on the whole “next generation” disc thing, but that’s neither here nor there regarding 3D on the big screen.

I’m not popping for a new player until the whole thing settles down to one format.

Do you need special glasses for this 3-D? I have depth perception, but am unable to appreciate special visual images that require the eyes to pull in towards one another.

Yes you do need the glasses they hand out.

As Heath said, you need the glasses, but you just look through them normally like though a pair of sunglasses.

Its Sunday and its clear to see that this film tanked!!
^
30 mill opening weekend is about half of there projected gross.
^
Overseas revenue won’t help and word of mouth won’t save this one.
^
Next weekend “Hitman” and the still strong “Bee movie” will knock this one down to no.3.
^
Not the big numbers they were looking for. CGI fails again!!

We’ll see what happens over the next week. :-)
It’s not about CGI, it’s about 3D.

I don’t know why everyone keeps saying Jolie is nude. I watched this movie this weekend.

She is as well covered as Mystique in the X-Men films. Those are also PG-13.

I agree with Heath, that the movie was a tad slow at times but the battle with the dragon was great; I also liked the battle with the sea monsters. But I saw in 2D, not 3D; I will try to see it in 3D sometimes.

Lykaon is also right. Grendal’s mother had some tight fitting whatchamagig but she was not nude.

Guys please. She had some strategically placed gold paint over semi-covered nipples and a smoothed over crotch. What the heck do YOU consider naked?

Tell me if you saw your mom or daughter walking around like that you wouldn’t say THEY were nude.

Vic,

Dunno if I’m the oddball out, or maybe the only one who doesn’t like heroes that are adulters, liars, and cowards — but they butchered the story and heart of all that was Beowulf. Seeing as though I seem to be the only one who has this opinion about the movie, I’ll leave it at that.

This movie goes down as probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

Well in the movie he was definitely less “pure” than Leonidas in “300.” And I’m pretty sure you can find worse movies right on this site in the “1 star” and “0 star” movie review areas. :-)
