Short version: I didn’t think it was possible, but AVP-R is worse than the previous Aliens vs Predator movie.
Abandon all hope ye who enter a movie theater that is showing Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.
It’s that bad. I kid you not. As first time directors, “The Brothers Strauss” (as they are referred to in the credits) are great visual effects guys. Honestly, I’m having a hard time coming up with ways to tell you just how depressingly awful this movie is, but I’ll do my best.

Within minutes of the start of the film I was bored and my mind started to wander. It opens aboard a Predator ship, where a dead comrade is presumably being transported to the home world directly after the events of the last film. An Alien bursts forth from the dead Predator, shortly taking out the entire crew and crashing the ship on Earth.
Immediately I wondered just how this could happen so easily. In the last film the premise was that Predators had been using Antarctica as the location for a rite of passage or training ground for Predators. For many years (was it centuries?) the Predator race had been doing this very thing.
So how is it that they could be so oblivious to the possibility that a dead comrade might be home to a gestating Alien? How is it that one Alien was able to take down the crew of a Predator ship (these guys ARE hunters, right?) so easily?
Once the ship crashes one of the mortally injured Predators manages to send a distress call which is pi,cked up by an elder on their home world. It was marginally cool to get a glimpse of their world, but that’s about it. He heads out for destination Earth.
Once the story cuts to the residents of the small town it gets even worse. We meet a variety of characters whose lives will clumsily come together as the movie progresses. We have an inexperienced (and inept) sheriff, the rebel/criminal brother of a local teen who comes back to town, that teen lusting after the local hottie who is dating a jerk/bully.
We also have Reiko Aylesworth as Kelly: a mom returning home after some unspecified amount of time to an estranged little girl and stay at home dad. The whole role reversal thing here creeped me out a bit for some reason.
She is probably the only person in the entire film who demonstrated any acting ability above what you might see in a high school play. We don’t really care about what happens to any of the characters despite the weak attempts at trying to connect the audience with them.
Oh, who cares about the acting, right? You want to see this for the action. Well I’m sorry to report that 90% of the time the scenes were shot in such a way that between the low lighting, rain, extreme close ups and quick cuts you can’t even tell what the hell is going on. Nor do you care much, as the whole thing seems assembled with less reason for being than a video game plot.
Then there were the really vile bits, like Aliens invading a hospital and finding easy hosts for their “little ones.” Beyond the idea of using the sick and helpless for this were a couple of scenes in the maternity ward where a woman who is going into labor is attacked by an Alien and has eggs deposited inside her in a repulsive manner (no, not THAT, but it was still disgusting).
Seriously, if I wasn’t going to review this I was so bored and disinterested I would have walked out 20 minutes in. It seems that my initial reactions to AVP-R turned out to be right after all. Of late I had been getting cautiously optimistic that there might be some chance that this would actually redeem the first, but it’s actually worse.
While I gave the first on only 1.5 stars, at least it got to be a bit of fun in the second half, but this one is almost completely without any value. There were a couple of very brief moments that were cool between the Pred-Alien and the Predator, but I’d count those at no more than maybe two or three eye-blink moments, tops.
I know the Strauss brothers are big fans of both franchises and had good intentions, but Aliens vs Predator: Requiem proves that being a big movie fan does not necessarily mean that you can make a good movie.
Folks, seriously, don’t bother. This thing is going to tank hard at the box office and if you see it anyway don’t come crying to me because YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I can only hope this will sound the death knell for this sci fi movie franchise merger.

Damn, And I was just saying to the misses that we should break out the Alien and Predator Movies, then AVP, then go check this out at the movies. While I value your opinion greatly, and generally agree with you on most things Vic…I think I’m going to have to go check it out anyways. Who knows, maybe now that I expect it to be a steaming pile, I might be able to overlook how terrible it is?
Who knows? Maybe you won’t mind it. Maybe you can look at it like a really bad B-movie and laugh at it. From what I’ve been reading it seems SOME people like it… although I certainly don’t understand how.
Vic
Vic,
this is my first time reading one of your reviews. And i cannot agree more.
This movie did suck. Really bad. I mean the whole Predator thing. There was 2 predators throughout the whole movie and one died. apparently, this “hero” predator wanted to take a Predator/Alien [alien] and the rest ofthe aliens all to himself. And never called for backup? wtf?
this movie was terrible. There was waayyyy to many human contact. I was expecting a WW3 between Alien And Predator. That wasnt it at all. Dont be deceived. Though the effects were more than awsome. I wonder to myself. Has the Directors seen the Predator and Alien movies? They obviously had no idea what kind of expectations they were required to live up to. Sad day.
I liked it. Maybe I’m just a fool. I enjoyed it as a fan of pred/alien films. I thought it was better than that poor excuse of a first.
Hirogen don’t waste your time and money.
Jazi. Welcome to the Rant!!!!
^
Vic your review was dead on. The film sickend me in ways that made the first film film look like a Oscar winner.
^
Especally the hospital scenes. Very vile indeed.
^
I would expect a alien/Predator would have been more keen to the hunt then to just reproduce itself in a hurry out of survival.
^
They missed that point and also it seemed like the whole film was a
complete bad lift of all the past films…
We have the acid-blood scene, the stupid army scene, the aliens getting killed and there screeming scenes, the swiming alien, the cool optics of the pred headgear (same ol same ol),the aliens face thru a hosptial blind right up to the face of a human female like so many other past ideas this film has no originality at all.
^
Who ever wrote, produced, edited, and greenlit this script sould be fired.
^
I feel bad for the actress that was in 24 being attached to this…..:(
and another thing.
the catch line of the movie is “this christmas there will be no peace on earth”
are you kidding me?
All this “action” that happens is based in a little POS town in Colorado.
Which promplty gets … well never mind.
But the invasion does not go outside the state lines of colorado.
So the awsome artwork for the movie poster. Is highly decieving.
Haha thanks Steve.
Just wasted my money on it today!
I liked all the scenes with the Predator. The rest they can burn …
^
It reminded me of a bad version of “Planet Terror meets I know what you did last summer 3″.
^
Right with ya there Jazi, I spent 8.50 on a matinee screening.
^
I’ll admit the film had at least 8 minutes of great stuff.
So that’s a buck per minute say,, overall at least we can warn the others!!!!!!
When I walked out of the theatre I felt like a facehugger was sucking the other end of me… In a bad way…
Violated,
Hey Mike, different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I know there are other folks that like it… maybe if I was 16 again it might work for me.
But much like how I compare the many crappy adventure movies that stink to “Raiders of the Lost Ark” I compare these to the original “Alien” and “Predator” and they’re not even remotely close.
Best,
Vic
God, I was gonna go see this tomorrow, thanks Vic.
Sounds like they could have done something different and daring (not to mention more interesting) if they’d kept the action on board the Predator ship, doing a scenario-revisit of the original Alien movie, with Predators taking the place of humans.
A talented director could have pulled that off, I think. But it sounds like these brothers Strauss are too green for that task at best.
I always wonder how guys whose only experience is in visual effects get handed the wheels to not only one franchise, but a film that combines two well known and established franchises - letting them run it to it’s final resting place.
When time finally wears down the stain of this installation from memory, maybe if one of the original directors is still alive, they’ll do us the favor of a Batman-style reboot, and remind us what was so good about those franchises in the first place. (I’m hoping this happens for the Aliens franchise more than the Predator one - just my own personal bias showing).
0.5 out of 5! LOL! That’s bad. Really bad. I actually watched the first AVP on FX earlier tonight and was reminded of how horrible it was. The whole time I was thinking how the sequel should be way better, especially hearing how dedicated the new directors were to this project. I can say I trust your judgment and most of the other readers who have posted comments already. Thanks for the heads up.
Depressing…:( What a waste.
Tell me about it. Working on the set of a movie doesn’t qualify one to direct. Maybe we’ll see some “Grips” or “Best Boys” direct the next one.
Vic
As always, dead on!
Well, I was afraid that it would turn out this way. Why?
First of all: strong, greedy producers and week, willing directors never get a good movie together. A good story needs some creative freedom in the writing/filming department and the suits only see the $$$ and want as much idiots as audience as possible. Consequence? “No big ideas here, Strauss brothers just stay in the sandbox!”
Next we have the sequel problem. Whereas Paramount ruined Star Trek by repeating the same stories/themes over and over AND ignoring continuity (which pissed off even the strongest fans), the script writers of AVP 2 ignored any other good story previosly imagined by comics, novels, video games and fan fiction. Hell, yeah, it costs ROYALTIES if you adapt another one’s story for the big screen. So instead of purchasing the story - or even offer the guy the opportunity to write a script himself - they rather hire “Mr. Cheap” to concoct something. Because the whole franchise is based on a video game anyway, they think. Yep, and that’s exactly why this one has GAME OVER painted all over it!
In the end it’s all about power and control over at Fox. The suits wanted the film EXACTLY as dumb as it is now. No creative dude from UK or France to mess with the audience they think, but some eye candy for christmas that will milk the fancow a little more.
And the best thing: if the movie fails, they will release a “director’s cut” on dvd/BluRay - OR even better BLAME it on the filesharers! (Remember Eli Roth and HOSTEL 2? He really blamed the downloaders for the failure! You know, Eli, you and your movie stink. Plain and simple.)
My advice to the fans? Hope for some decent fan fiction in the future (Batman: Dead End and Star Trek New Voyages already go in that (right) direction).
ZAR.
LOL,Vic! Steve Adams sent me his review,he said basically the same thing. I’ll wait for the DVD release of this one…………maybe.
Not to be combative, ZAR, but it doesn’t make any sense to expect profressional (albeit crappy) writers and directors to use fan fiction as a basis for their work. If Hollywood types ever used such material as a basis for, say, a screenplay, they would be sued and stripped of every cent they own.
I agree with Zar on Eli roths “work” his work is crap and I think the same for him…:)
Anyway…..
Zcole, producers rip off fan material as much as they can.
The fan/writer/creator only stands a chance of winning anything if the project is successfull.
I think what Zar and a few others are talking about is that there’s so much BETTER material out there to make into a good story, yet these “filmakers” mostly choose the crap scripts.
Fox owns both these characters, they don’t intentionally make films targeted to stupid film goers. They unintentionally place these films in the hands of stupid producers.
^
Fox picked the wrong team, plain and simple, even the credits looked like they were done by a 15 year old.
^
This script was picked prob over 15 other ideas, but these idiots said “hey that’s a good way to go”, they blew it. They are prob being fired as we speak.
^
Aliens Vs Predator wasn’t based on a video game, it was based on a Comic book series produced by I want to say “Dark Horse” but check that*
Ever since the comic came out Fox has tried to bring these 2 icons of Sci-fi together….
It took a few years to secure all the rights. (Years)..!
^
The first AvP film I thought was good, I know everyone seems to hate it but I liked the way the Predator worked alongside the human toward the end because she could kick ass and the Predator respected her. That kind of storyline was more inline with the comic version.
^
In the Comic story the Predators (on occasion) did team up with Humans to eradicate the aliens.
This is somewhat the direction this franchise should be headed but this latest blunder turns the frachise into a cheap sh*#y half-ass horror mess that’s unforgivable….:(
^
The Producers of this “mess” complety set this franchise back years if not permanantly.
Piss’es. me off because this could have been a great
franchise now its been destroyed.
^
I stayed all the way to the end waiting for just a little redemtion and all I got was the same old ending. You know the one. And like Vic noted by then you didn’t give a crap if the whole town was gone because the characters were meaningless.
^
KEL don’t even bother renting this thing its such a poc.
Man I’m so ready for some quality sci-fi !!!!!!!!!!!
I guess it time to watch my BG Razor dvd. Hmmm
while i havnt yet seen this film. i feel people should stop hoping these fims will be the next “aliens” or “predator2 films. those films were classic and will most probably not be bettered by any modern day version.
they should be taken as eye candy and/or a no thrills switch of your brain gorefest. most people who savage these films. are not fans of the genre / charecters and so dont trully understand what the true essence of avp is. sure the storys crap. the acting is ham. so what. we want to see two of our fave movie beasties scrapping on screen. thats it.
i read one review even question how the pred alien came about and said that ” it wasnt properly explained” helloooooooooooo have you seen the first movie you retard.
im so annoyed at snooty reviewers with their long fancy words which describe films they would never see in the first place. i thought reviewrs were meant to be impartial and unbiased. yet every review i read is tainted with the words of someone who clearly has no interest or love for the genre. take a work of advice.
First of all: I do not allow profanity on this site. You should be able to express your opinion without a rude use of the F-bomb (you’re actually lucky I didn’t delete your comment due to your closing two words).
To address the main points of your comments:
“while i havnt yet seen this film.”
Well. That invalidates all your arguments right there. If you haven’t seen it you have no basis for slamming anyone’s review.
“i feel people should stop hoping these fims will be the next ‘aliens’ or ‘predator2′ films. those films were classic and will most probably not be bettered by any modern day version.”
Exactly right. So if they can’t at least match the quality of those it’s a blatant attempt to rip us off for our money by sucking us into the theater based on the quality of THOSE movies.
“they should be taken as eye candy and/or a no thrills switch of your brain gorefest.”
B.S. If they just want to do a “gorefest” or “eye candy”, then create something original instead.
“most people who savage these films. are not fans of the genre / charecters and so dont trully understand what the true essence of avp”
Again: B.S. I personally “savaged” this film precisely BECAUSE I am such a fan of the genre, characters and original films.
“im so annoyed at snooty reviewers with their long fancy words”
I do not consider myself a “snooty reviewer.” As a matter of fact I try to write reviews that the average person can use to decide whether or not to see a movie.
“every review i read is tainted with the words of someone who clearly has no interest or love for the genre.”
Again, I find it hysterical that you’ve posted that comment on THIS website. Have you even bothered to read Screen Rant??? Yeesh.
Vic
Just cuz someone uses long words doesn’t mean they’re snooty,it usually means they’re smart (duh!). You can’t bash someone for being “snooty” just cuz you can’t comprehend the words they use.
Uh oh. I have a feeling I just made a mistake of some sort…………….:-0
Yep KEL, I suggest taking cover in preparation for the retaliatory action that is no doubt coming your way. I still haven’t gone to see the movie myself…I mean, I know Vic is going to be right, and the film will be terrible…but I just can’t look away! So far I’m using the excuse that the Girlfriend has seen none of the original movies, or the first AVP movie yet…and yes, yes I know, it isn’t really necessary to see all that first but shoosh! It’s keeping me from seeing this
Hey nando, go see the film its awesome!!!
^
Wait in line even….its that good.
^
Hey KEL!
LOL,Hirogen!! You’re probably right……..;-)
I see ya,Steve!
Wow Hirogen, you have guts to take a girlfriend to this one.
^
Might want to check the surrounding theatres and see what time they come on so if you have to, you can walk out of Avp and sneak into another film midway thru.
^
I would expect that to be right around the scenes where the Pred-alien is killing a whole bunch of pregnant women.”Tastefully” of course, (gross pun intended).
wow. i’m only 16 and this movie seemes like the biggest piece of crapt i’ve ever seen. I’m going to be a film director someday and I know i can make a movie way better than this pile dung I paid $9 to see. The catch line was “there will be no peace on earth”, that had nothing to do with the film, the whole thing took place in that little hick ass town. Me and my friend have better scripts than this, i was actually kind of skeptical about our scripts at first but after seeing what felt like a knife in my eye, I feel that my scripts will be a masterpiece. The only good thing that came out of this movie is the confidence to make a movie that will either scare the crap out of people or blow them away.
Best to you Adrian!
^
I look forward to the young talent out there to someday save us from this “fun in the sun” garbage.
^
Hey, Adrian,
you have restored my faith in the future of movies! Keep up the good work! Certainly a 16 year old can do better than the schlock that is being served up today on multi million budgets. There are so many talented si- fi writers today. All apparently ignored when it comes to creating a movie script.
I took my son and 13 year old daughter to see this last night. She laughed all the way through it. Thought it was a great comedy.
(We also had to sit through 30 minutes of mainly adverts and trailers before the movie!!!. Curse you Hoyts!!!)
I found the hospital scenes quite vile and totally irrelevant to the ‘plot’. Trying to ‘outdo’ Saw and Hostel perhaps??
Everyone seems to pan the first movie. For what it was I quite liked it, (with reservations), certainly found it better than this sequel. Does ‘Requiem’ in this title signify the death of the franchaise?
I couldn’t dissagree more with you. In my opinion AVP-R was a vast imrovment upon the previous movie. To your question of how the Predalien could take down the Predator ship single-handedly, it was OBVIOUS that the Predalien was much stronger, larger and more intellegent then the other aliens, and, if you couple that with the fact that the predators were caught with their proverbial pants down AND that it was in their ship (imagine a feral grizzly in the shace shuttle; the things gonna go down) then it’s easy to see how things went so horribly wrong for the predators aboard said spaceship.
You ARE right about how they should’ve thought’ve the possibility that he was carrying a chestburster before picking him up though. I dunno. Maybe they were stoned.
The hospital scenes did make me cringe, but that was the point. It’s a sci-fi/HORROR movie. You should see some of the other horror movies as of late.
They make AVP-R look like “Gumby’s Christmas Specail” by comparison.
But we’re cool right? ._.
Kent knowhere on this post has anyone stated how a predalien could take down a predator ship..
Read the posts I challenge you to tell me where you find that…
^
The biggest problem with this film in relation to Alien cannon was the way the Predalien reproduced 20 predators in a matter of hours.
^
The film coulda been better….
We’re totally cool as long as you continue to express your opinions in an intelligent and polite manner. I have no problem with people who disagree with me and encourage discussion and debate here on Screen Rant as long as it doesn’t devolve into emotional name-calling.
You DID make a good point about the fact that the Alien was part Predator contributing to how it could have made it easier for it to take down the other Predators.
Best regards,
Vic
thanks donneperth and steve adams, it feels good to know that i got some support. I really want to make movies one day and know i could do it if i work hard and really put my mind to it. here are some movies i would like to make:
- the darkness (based off the comic)
- twisted christmas
- spore (horror movie)
- spawn (based on the comic) one film i would love to do the most because its my favorite comic.
- a dragon movie based in modern times
- the roar of war, and action packed trilogy
- the waliking dead (also a comic)
- daywalkers (a group of people who hunt vampires and werewolves)
and maybe a monster movie or an alien invasion movie, what ever one that captures my intrest the most, or maybe both, who knows? it seems like a bit much, but i know i can do it.
Good concepts except for the modern day dragon film. Didn’t they allready make that film. I can’t remeber the title. I know Alice Krige is in it….
^
Here’s a concept for you Adrian,
I would love to see a WaterWorld type film right after the flooding due to global warming.
It would have more islands and city buildings sticking up out of the water then Waterworld did. And more mutetated sea life I’m typing giant whales and sharks.
There could be fleets of miltary aircraft carrers that rule the world the possiblities are endless.
This movie really sucked ass. I saw it Xmas day and almost pulled my hair out it was so bad. I was a huge fan of the Aliens franchise and this movie was crap. I could not see anything during the fight scenes and felt bad for Reiko (24) and the guy from Rescue Me who were stuck in this clunker.
Yeah Yapper I totally agree…..!
Drat, guys! Now I don’t know what to do. I really wanted to see this film but now, I’m not soo sure I want to waste money on it. Rotten tomatoes gave it %15, which means some critics thought it was worth seeing, but you guys are real people. Maybe I should just wait for Cloverfield.
John there was about 5 min in there that I liked.
(Scene with the predator homeworld.
Other than that the Cloverfield TRAILER’s are more fun to watch.
Trust me, you will go in wating to love the movie, but leave dissapointed. Watch the Last AVP much better (and thats not saying much)
OK, I had some time to kill this past Saturday while my wife was in class. I decided to see this movie mainly because there wasn’t anything else out that I wanted to see. I got some popcorn, a diet coke and some peanut M&Ms; the popcorn was more satisfying that this garbage of a movie. I know, I should have listened to you all but my father told me I’m bullheaded, so there :o)
I still don’t know exactly how the predalien looks. I got glimpses of it from time to time but no full body shot. About the scene in the maternity ward? I couldn’t even tell you because I fell asleep before they got there. The movie was boring, predictable, and badly shot. There were only 2 people I recongnized in the movie; the guy who had the weapon in the briefcase and Ms. Utani. I have no clue who the rest of those actors were.
Sorry John we tried to warn ya!!
^
The predalien looked like a walking cockroach.
If this movie was actually GOOD, word of mouth would have cancelled out bad reviews and it would have made a ton of money.
But it hasn’t - it’s been out almost 4 weeks and has only now broken $40MM in the U.S. That tells me that most people think it stinks.
But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Vic
Avp is the perfect film for you Saad.
^
DON’T LISTEN TO ALL THESE CRAP REVIEWS OF AVP-R FOLKS, I JUST SAW IT TODAY AND THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT FUN HORROR-SI-FI!!!
IT’S FUN!! GREAT ACTION AND EFFECTS AND THE ACTING IS OK!
IT AIN’T SHAKESPEAR IT’S JUST T GREAT MOVIE MONSTERS HAVIN’ A BATTLE!!
C’MON YOU HEAVY PEOPLE OUT THERE, LIGHTEN UP!!
I GIVE IT 3 STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!
Hey Graham your a little late. The “film” is allmost out of all the theatres…
If my Fruit of the Looms, could audibly form sentences or type on a keyboard,,, uh huh,,that’s right.
it would first say, “Solient Green is People” and then it would say “AvP requim sucks, its really bad, it stinks! don’t go”…….!!!!!!!
Fruit from the Loom don’t lie,…kile.
I’M IN SCOTLAND AND THE MOVIE JUST CAME OUT HERE!!!
I READ THE REVIEWS HERE BEFORE GOING AND WAS EXPECTING THE WORST BUT WAS PLEASED TO ENJOY A NOT TOO BAD MOVIE!!
I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE MAKE THERE MINDS UP IN ADVANCED BEFORE GOING TO SEE MOVIES.
I LOVED THE FIRST PRED MOVIE WITH BIG ARNIE AND I LOVED ALIEN AND WITHOUT ARNIE AND WEAVER IN THESE NEW MOVIES TO GIVE IT THAT REAL TOUCH OF CLASS THEN WE GOT TO JUST ENJOY THESE FANTASY FUN FILMS
I REST MY CASE!!
I guess everyone has their own taste in movies, but if you look through the articles I wrote leading up to the release of this film you’ll see that I was actually getting quite optimistic about it.
Of course watching the film changed all that.
Best regards,
Vic
i read the review and i must disagree. i saw avp the weekend it came out and have to say i liked it alot. being a fan of all the movies (except aliens 4 and the first avp) i think the guys who made this movie did their homework. also, this might have been a rumor, but i heard that it came out to make up for the first AVP. well, if that rumor is true you got my vote. comparing it to avp one AVP-R is a 10 hands down. comparing it to the other movies thats going a bit too far. people are complaining about not enough of predators. well, if you look back predator one and two really only have one predator stalking a city or jungle. the predator is a loner in the scheme of things. whoever got the idea that this predator in the AVP-R is some kind of hero you can forget that. he just cleaning up the mess in this one. you didnt like the scene in the sewer? ok now as for the acting that can just goes out the window… who did you people expect brad pitt to save the day?! no they numbers - people they can just kill off and thats that. seriously its 2008?! how many scary movies these days do see top billing when everything ISNT centered around them…. you think we have arnold, paxton, glover, micheal bean, weaver these days? (if you dont know who these peoply are - look em up!) no. now we must get low paid actors that dont really have any status so it is easy to kill them off. yeah you are right that its stock casting with the “outcast” or “bully” or “hot chick” but what movie do you get to see aliens kill off that hot chick, a little kid and pregnant woman?! these are aliens. just like insects. they have no remorse or conscience. brutal and no mercy. well, i must be stupid to many of you on here, but im down for AVP-R and really. fully entertained on my part, however, im deeply into 80s movies as well… so that might hinder your opinons. =)
keep on truckin’.
Your comment is the most intelligent “pro-AVP-R” post I have read ANYWHERE to date. For the record, I’m a huge fan of 80’s movies as well (you should run, and not walk, to see the new “Rambo”).
Actors don’t have to be famous to be good at their jobs, but they can only do so much with the script they are given.
You are welcome to come back and comment any time, even if you disagree.
Best regards,
Vic
Hey marc, you didn’t have a problem with how fast the aliens were reproducing themselves. I mean dude the entire film took place in a 24 hour period. By the end of the film there had to be 50 aliens.
^
Your old school marc. Did you ever see that occur before in the other films. Didn’t it usally take like at least a day for the chest buster to come out and then it would take more time for them to grow?
I really wanted to see this movie. I guess I am one of the few people that really enjoyed the first AVP movie. I didn’t try to hold up to the originals, but to have it stand out on it’s own. To me, it did that, as I was entertained for the length of the film. However, after reading the reviews of all the people here, I am glad that I decided to spend my movie money that week on National Treaaure 2 instead. I will still probably end up seeing this in the future, either through Netflix or on tv, but now it is not in my “MUST SEE” pile.
BTW, Vic, on a side note, I have to tell you that I am enjoying the site. I appreciate all the effort you’ve put into your reviews and responses in the comments!! Keep up the great work!!
Hey Andy, I also loved the first Aliens vs Predator.
^
I liked the fact that the predator and the girl teamed up.
^
At the end they (predators) throw her an old gun like a trophy she earned in battle yet leave her stranded in the arctic. I loved it!
^
The predators remind me of Klingons in a way.
Vic
You know steve, the Preds ARE similar to the Klingons!!
Cant help but think some of the comments on this movie are a little harsh! Yeah, its not exactly top trumps, and yes the predator dude was a bit wooden and generally not that hard looking, but man!.. What a rocking gore fest! Credit where its due for the targeting of the weak and infirm.. Classic natural selection in action!
Lets not forget that the first alien to appear was a hybridized predator.. Bad A$$ for any space fairing species to deal with, especially the dim witted predator that shot the guts out of his own ship (which caused it to crash right?)..
This films definately worth a shuffle on down to the pictures… 8/10 for putting humans in there rightful place!! All we need now is Alien Vs Predator Vs Terminator… hehe!! Come on Arnie, you know you want to….
avp 2 rocks
i agree with some of the comments apart from the bits where people are dishing the hospital scene (IT A HORROR) do people expect that women and children wouldnt be effected by the aliens Come On people. It was great graphic wise.
9/10 for the graphics
8/10 for the film.
6/10 for the acting
I’m suprised to see less about the pregnant women scenes, they were gross. I mean, when the Pred-Alien vomits babies down the woman’s throught it wasn’t that bad. But why did they have her say “oh nurse! my water just broke” beforehand. And for god’s sake, why did they make her act like she was in labor when the 5 chestbursters(uterusbursters?) crawl out of her pregnant belly. And WHY the HELL did they show bits of eaten fetus in there with it. Who knows.
There was a bit earlier with a waitress who had the same thing happen to her, they could have shown them burst out of her, instead of the tasteless gore that was the hospital scene. Let it be known that the only other scene I had issue with was the part where the Pred-Alien looked over the babies in the maternity ward like a fat man at a buffet. Also, the whole IDEA behind the Alien’s reproductive cycle is supposed to be a perversion of birth. Thats why the host in Alien was a man. To screw with the preconcieved notions that rape and “birth” only happen to women. They just pushed it beyond that imperceptible line between “slasher flick” and “pervy snuff film showing a horse rape a dog in the background”. Babies and pregnant women are supposed to be sacred in relation to this type of film.
I LEFT THE THEATER FEELING DIRTY, VIOLATED AND DISGUSTED.
Yeah Hunter I felt the same way. Those maternity ward scenes were abomanable and truly disgusting.

When I pay to see a Aliens vs Predator film its not to see helpless people die horribly. (Not what I’m into).
^
If they do another AvP film I won’t even go. I’m done with that “franchise” if you can call it that.
I had to respond. Horror movies are intended to do these things, PEOPLE! Killing innocent people has been the premise for horror/gore/thriller movies since i could remember. Really why are you seeing this movie if you are expecting PG-13 transformers action where CGI is mistaken for ideas? Don’t get me wrong, i liked transformers, but that movie and avp-R (i wish could highlight ‘R’) are a completely different franchise. Wheres the fun in Jason part one through 10, in Nightmare on Elm St part 4 - where Freddy turns a women (who loathes bugs) into a cockroach and makes her run around a roach motel, which is squished by his own hands concluding the scene with a great quote “you can check in, but you cant check out.” I’ll tell where the fun is - killing innocent people. Now, that scene is I think is a bit more disgusting that our oh so vile pregnant women scene. And when was this movie made? Not 10. Not 15. 20 years ago. 1988. If you haven’t seen it check it out. Now, in those movies they were mostly teens and i think no one can get enough of some mad men, cloaked or even in your dreams, killing off teens who are usually under the influence or “getting it on.” Now, theres far more worse its just this movie that was surprisingly put in the mainstream. IT ISN’T REAL! I really don’t see the problem with killing a women whos pregnant anyway. You think that alien cares? Hes making more of his/her kind. When i see stuff like that i try not to take too personally. I leave those violated/ disgusted/dirty feelings when i see REAL snuff (theres some pretty gross stuff out there… thank you internet?), those youtube fights videos or some guy REALLY getting mauled by a tiger or when my car gets stolen. The end!
I remember that NMOES scene marc that’s was in the film “Dream Warriors” back then the effects were done in such a way that it didn’t look real.
^
AvP was brutal, I was expecting a Sci-Fi film not “faces of death” part 6.
^
Its disturbing to me marc that you see no prob with killing a pregnant women.
Even a Predator won’t kill a Pregnant woman.
i totally agree with marc. it not real why do people take things so seriously when it just a film.
p.s the film is set over 48 hours not 24 if you wanna check
i have to say i thought the hellraiser films where one of the best horror films of all time. Unlike brain dead (worst film in history)
I swear to god I am sick of hypocrits like this guy! They have no lifes so they use there worthless exsistence to drop unnessicary bombs on really good movies! I loved this movie and even though the first one wasnt quite that good it was still a kick-ass thrill ride that brought back the 2 deadliest creatures of the 70s and 80s and put theme in combat. I admit there were some unnessicary parts like the hospital scene and the little boy but in a way that was just showing how nasty and bloodthirsty the xenomorphs are! Im also sick of hearing how bad the acting is and how there wasnt any of the old actors in the movie and thats for 2 reasons: 1. The freaken movie is called Aliens Vs Predator not Aliens Vs Predator: With a romantic human twist. The movie is about 2 deadly creatures whooping ass and humans caught in the middle. 2. Most of the actors from the old movies are old and are probily in wheelchairs by now! I swear even if this movie had no humans at all and was justthe movie from the Aliens or Predators side of the story then you losers would insult it for that too so if your a fan of Aliens and Predators and love the franchise then go watch it and look for the good and not the bad and youll feel proud of the money you spent but if your someone who doesnt like anything about The 2 movies then dont see it! Save all the fans the time of having too correct you and get a REAL JOB!
i totally agree with what aaron says
awesome web site vic
GLAD TO SEE MORE PEOPLE STICKING UP FOR THIS MOVIE!!
IT REALLY DIDN’T DESERVE 1 STAR FROM SCREEN RANT!
COME ON GIVE IT 3! IT’S A GOOD HORROR ACTION BIT OF FUN!!!
Half a star graham..
^
This pile will be out on dvd soon.
Enjoy!!!!!!
i put up a response, but i have no clue what happened to it. maybe because i pasted an imdb link on here? whatever, heres a “cliffs” version.
Professor Steve Adams should do his homework - the awesome cockroach scene is in Freddy part 4: DREAM MASTER not the movie HE mentioned - dream warriors. also, he says the effects didn’t “look real.” first, i disagree with that. second, its a woman turning into a cockroach how real do you want it to look? i think for 1988 they did a really good job. then again i admit i hate excessive CGI and thats one way they would ruin it if freddy 4 was put out today. so much computer graphics on the screen you have no clue what is going on. some looks amazing and some just looks like a cartoon. matrix 2 anyone?
i would like to redeem any decency i have and say no, i would not like to see a pregnant woman getting killed. however, i do like to see an actress acting like a pregnant woman that is staged in a scene where there are men in fake suits that are set to look like aliens that kill her… its just when i explain it THAT way it takes all (really all of it) the fun out of scary movies. the end!
Nightmare on Elm st part 3 “Dream Wariors”
Nightmare on Elm st part 4 “Dream master”.
Sorry I got them confused. Its been like 20 years since I gave a crap…
SORRY MATE BUT YOU MUST HAVE BEEN HAVING A BAD DAY WHEN YOU HAD TO SEE THIS MOVIE.
IF IT AINT YOUR TYPE OF MOVIE THAT’S ALRIGHT BUT ALL I AM TRYING TO GET THROUGH IS THAT IT IS NOT A “BAD MOVIE”, IT’S A PRETTY ENJOYABLE ONE!
NUFF SAID!
Yeah I love seeing people stand up for this movie! Sorry Vic!
Let’s face-hugger it, the real Aliens vs Predator…..
(Clinton vs McCain)
- Calling me a “hypocrit”[sic]
- Having a “worthless exsistence”[sic]
- Being a “loser”
or for saying that I should “get a REAL JOB”?
Or was it an apology for the fact that you can’t spell correctly?
Fine, you liked it. Did I call anyone names because they liked this stupid movie? If it’s so freaking AWESOME, why did it only gross $41MM in the U.S.? People don’t listen to critics, right? So word of mouth should have made this movie a lot more money.
Freaking “NORBIT” made TWICE as much money as AVP-R and that got crap reviews too. So what does that tell you?
Or do I have to spell it out for you?
Best regards,
Vic
Hey Aaron, Mel and Graham time for a group face-hug?
:¤ :¤ :¤
Hey Vic, I’m all in favor of locking this thread down…^
If I have to read another stellar review of this “film” I’m going to loose all hope for humanity.
The 0.5 out of 5 seems a bit harsh but when this just came out a mate of mine told me it suuuuckkkked!. So I, didn’t bother to go to the cinema to watch it.
It’s NOT worth the price of an admission ticket that is for sure, but as far as ‘action’ films go…it wasn’t too bad. The gore was cool. There were some ace moments, especially when the teen hottie got nailed *cough* to the wall (SOB!, she really was cuuuutte…but it ain’t like she’s gonna seduce any of the Aliens right?). The rest of it was hmm…pretty obvious.
We all saw the nuke coming, we all knew the pe0ns in the city center were dead one way or another. We also knew that there was going to be a chopper escaping the bomb scene. Correct me if I’m wrong though - I would *think* that a 200k-ton bomb would ‘have’? to be a nuke? In which case, shouldn’t the EMP have killed them? No matter whatever mad skills you may have, a chopper with no power == bye bye!
I also found Michelle Desler’s (LOL) initial shock to that brother with the gun rather odd. She almost screamed! Is that the kind of reaction an army (or what have you) seasoned vet would have to a guy in a gun? If she wasn’t half decent what’s with her toting NV goggles back home?
Also, what’s with Ms. Utani…that bit made no sense apart from..”We’ll be back…” - let’s just hope that this time around they get it right and PLEASE get someone else to direct it this time!
Cheers,
Mike
Set more indepth into the close proximity of what no human wants to ever experience, based on what as humans we currently beleive is a secure planet out of the reach of potential harm comes to public light a new killer species.
After the predators unwittingly take onboard there ship of what they beleive is a dead predator, slayed and hosted from the previous Alien Versus Predator movie, a new born cross breed is hatched, this the cross between an Alien and a Predator, most deadly, smarter and wiser than the current Alien species we have come to know.
This cross breed is responsible for the devestation that occurs on the Predators ship, which is closely orbiting mother Earth.
The aliens and at a latter stage the master predator on an alternative ship invades earth, the aliens in this case escape on what seems to be a pod of some type from the Predators ship progressively leading the aliens to stumble across the natural habitat of humans, perfect for there natural killing instincts and abilities.
Close to home strikes the reality of vicious, intelligent and highly gory killer out of this world alien and off spree aliens, with forcus on a main Predator character in revenge of the newly slaughtered Predators.
After missing parties of humans, and in some instances found bodies, mutilated and generally sevred in some instances alerts the local quiet community of unknown attacks by unknown entities, this occuring at a little town in collorado where a surviving team of humans band together for the fight for survival.
The Military also known as the National Guard (NG) get involved in a confrontation with the at-our-door-step vicious deadly killing machines (the aliens), but ill prepared and not knowingly these soldiers step into the killing grounds which is the centre of the town.
A Predator hell bent on taking down the aliens responsible for this invasion takes the role of a lead character attempting to secure the threat to the Predator race and to stop an invasion that would lead ultimately to the expansion of a new alien inhabited world.
Serious fighting takes place in a local community where damages on a devastating scale commences in some appropriate and not so appropriate locations, for example the hospital, ultimately leading to the death of all in this local community bar the survivors who escaped on what seems to be an evac-come helicopter, only to crash land at a later date due to an army commander firing a missile on the designated contamited area.
This movie overall gives the viewer a distinct feel that some how as a human race we neglect to realise the potential harm of what is as some refer to as ‘out there’. The realisation of how humans are insufficiently matched against multiple hostiles with killer abilities and unknown technology are rapidly taking over our planet earth at a rate not known as human to human conflicts.
Although in parts, the movie seems to lack quite the story line detailed as out given above, the movie was steadily involving the viewer with a more generalized over view of what is happening.
Albeit multiple viewers comments on this movie about budgeting and role play, personally I thought this movie was worth watching, with an anticipated arrival of a new movie, as indicated by the ending of this movie.
I have to say i liked this movie. i wont say it lived up to Aliens or Predator. I will say it kicked aliens 3 and 4 by far since someone went and destroyed and wrecked great movies. Anyway the movie didnt have the greatest acting and i think they went way to far into thier own personal lives. anyway with some of the things your saying if you buy or rent this movie and watch a few of the special features youll see some of the things they were getting at with the movie. and incase your wondering the original script they had, had the predalien ded on page like five (it died in the crash). So the movie could have been worse. anyway they were trying to bring back that creepy vibe from the original aliens. One thing that bugged me is how people keep saying is how they’re got to be so many aliens so fast. 1.they’re are a few facehuggers to start it off and 2.the predalien if you look puts like five eggs in each person. If you ever watch a few of the special features though you can actually see the whole predalien. The thing i thought was the very dummest thing about the movie is how they made the predalien just blindly be on the alien side having some predator you think it would have some individuality in it. I thought they may even bring in a fourth race (kinda) to the franchise. In some areas i could have written better parts for the movie but in some they went perfectly along like they should. so id give it probably a 6 or 7 outta ten.
Dosnt matter how many eggs, the jestation to maturation rate was the fastest in any of the previous films.
Jestation to maturation used to take days. Not 30min.
At times I was reminded of Benny Hill.
(Everyone running in fast forward with that stupid circus song playing in the backgorund).
I just watched this movie and I have to utterly and totally disagree with you because obvously you are either an alien/predator film nazi OR your jus jumping on the hate the film “bandwagon” simply out the second film was such an vastly better film than the first…minus the issue of “jestation to maturation rate” which i agree with.
I’m really quite sick of that attitude.
Vic
First: Godwin’s Law is now in effect.
Second: Sorry Vic, but opinions can be a dangerous thing. It’s great that you have your own views, but if you don’t want to be attacked by fans, idiots, and those that just love to start an argument don’t post you views on the internet. And if you still feel a need to let the world know that you think somethings bad than prepared to be fired upon.
I am really quite sick of the attitude were people assume that their opinions are allowed to be unjustly judged by others just because its THEIR opinion.
Get over yourself.
Although you mis-typed something in your statement, I found myself agreeing with you until you had to go and blow it with this:
“Get over yourself.”
Get over MYSELF? You obviously missed my point, which is while I express my point of view in a logical, intelligent manner, most (not all) of those who disagree regarding this film have arguments that amount to “You suck! This movie rocked you idiot!”
Why don’t you tell those immature and rude idiots to get over THEMSELVES, eh?
Best regards and perhaps you should get over yourself as well.
Vic
Vic..care for round two on the helping those less fortunate….
Just being Cheeky Vic..there is no need to be rude to anyone because of their opinion not agreeing with what you believe..you can say anything you want if you find the right words instead of just sending insulting barbs at those you disagree with…when I say you, I don’t mean “you”specifically. I am talking about opinions in general…
Cheers
Vic
Next time you decide to correct someone on their grammar you should check your own first. And you obviously can not tell an idiot to “get over themselves.” They obviously wouldn’t understand the complexity of so many words.
On the note of what this is actually about, I liked this movie well enough. Considering what passes for quality entertainment these days I’ve seen worse, much, much worse
I miss the good old days when movies were actually good even without all the special effects.
Great now I feel old.
I’m about ready to lock this sucker down because honestly, I’ve pretty much had it.
Vic
If a small thing has the power to make you angry, does that not indicate something about your size.
Vic
Both the AVP movies were good. Everyone knows the Predator would win hands down.
