Agree with your assessment of the franchise. The original was incredible at the time it was released and still looks good today. Not real excited for a fourth film, but we’ll see what they come up with.

Also agree with your assessment. I tried reading The Lost World, and couldn’t finish it. It’s a bad sign when the only character you bring back from the original is the one that died in that book. It just went downhill from there. It was clear Chrichton was given writing orders from studio execs feeding him information on who they could and couldn’t get back for a sequel. Heck, even the narrative resembled a screenplay instead of a novel.

Never could watch the whole film.

Honestly, I think the franchise is spent. Anything they’ve come up with so far has been a rehash of the first. There have been no really new ideas presented since then, no character’s really tested. No personalities worth caring about.

steve adams says:

I also agree.
The 3rd film was good I just didn’t like the ending where the military let’s these “flying dragons” basically fly away like they won’t cause a problem?? That was a wtf moment for sure.

If they would have at least shown a offficer bark out some orders and then we see a couple of Air Force “Raptors” break off in pursuit. That would have been some closure or at least a beggining into J4.

busy says:

i read somewhere (maybe here) the dinosaurs are gonna be using guns in the next movie? HAHAHAHAH

steve adams says:

That wouldn’t surprise me but they don’t seem to need guns to kill us humans. :o

FilmNerdJamie says:

I can only assume JURASSIC PARK 4 is being planned as a post-strike film because we’ve heard absolutely NOTHING about it since…forever.

And the way films are made at such break-neck speed, this could still happen for Summer 2009!

steve adams says:

They could allready have a script written and purchased pre-strike for J4.

Screen Rant says:

That’s true. The last time we heard anything about this was way back in August:

Oh it pains me to read such words.
The third film was absolute garbage.
The second was alright, the book being a lot more enjoyable.. I do agree the first (book & film) is the best and it seems the series is just going downhill.
I can’t imagine them not turning the 4th installment into a full-fledged action movie, sans any character depth or plot.
Such is the industry.. giving the people what they want.

Victor says:

I could not agree more about jurassic park 1 still looking as good as it is. However, I also found the lost world:Jurassic park to be a good movie!! I just watched it again this weekend(twice in fact!) I absolutely love the first two films!! I Do howeverr disagree completely with Jurassic park 3 being a good film! In fact, THAT WAS A TERRIBLE movie!! The dinosaurs that adapt o more “human-like” thinking, the graphics and even the entire plot was all a big joke. What made the first two movies so amazing, was that the dinos actually came accross as aniamls, in both look and behavior. That and T-rex will always be king!!!

Micah says:

I don’t know, I liked The Lost World novel (Jurassic Park: the novel was better, I will agree with you there). Wasn’t too crazy about the movie. The movies are going downhill. I am NOT looking forward to the fourth movie, but will probably end up seeing it, anyway.

amy says:

I loved every jurassic park it was cool although in one the parts of jurassic parks two you can hear the mechanical baby dinosar. thats ok I am still a fan.
