Resident Evil Village has been out for around a year now, with many questions and plot threads left unresolved. Capcom has thankfully announced future DLC for the title. Still, until then, the internet has been left in an endless spiral of contemplation and theory crafting to help close some of the many doors left open by RE Village's narrative. Though Ethan's story may have concluded, several characters like Chris Redfield have opportunities to fill in the gaps for future Resident Evil Village DLC.

The eighth entry in the Resident Evil series goes faster than its return-to-roots style predecessor, Resident Evil 7, which means the chance for certain plot-important information to hit the cutting room floor. As Resident Evil Village focuses primarily on Ethan Winters, it's expected that side characters will remain somewhat shrouded in mystery with little need (or desire on behalf of the developers) to explore these characters further. However, some characters get a bit more screen time than expected, and their motivations and actions tease captivating stories that could flesh out Resident Evil Village in unexpectedly great ways. The ending of Village also sets up many potential sequel ideas for the series, but they feel more likely to be DLC ideas than full-fledged sequels. Still, the most likely candidate for DLC potential in Resident Evil Village seems to be Chris Redfield.

Chris Redfield was crucial to the story of Resident Evil Village, yet his involvement was sporadic. Though players did get to run through a late-game sequence as the series veteran, he was the kindling that ignited the powder keg to set the game's events in motion. Chris and his team were navigating behind the scenes, uncovering more about the Mutamycete. However, Chris' unwillingness to communicate with Ethan made for some uneven storytelling. What happened between Chris shooting the false Mia and his reunion with Ethan in the swamp area could highlight the discovery of the Megamycete that the player can discover on their own in the game. Stumbling upon this area reveals that Chris' unit has already found this location and has set up monitoring equipment, making for a compelling Resident Evil Village DLC expansion to see Chris surviving the attack on the van to reunite with his "new" comrades.

Resident Evil Village DLC Could Tackle The BSAA Arc

RE Village BSAA Bioweapon Concept

A lot of questions surround Chris Redfield and his Lone Wolf unit. The game's final moments reveal that they defected from the BSAA, founding a new special ops team. During this sequence, one team member unmasks a dead BSAA soldier to show Chris that they're a bioweapon. The DLC could choose to visit the events before Resident Evil Village and explore the founding of the Lone Wolf unit and why they decided to continue to monitor the Winters' family - despite no longer working with Blue Umbrella.

However, Resident Evil Village DLC should pursue the angle regarding the BSAA using zombies as weapons. Though the content could cover a sequel on its own, the arguments regarding Ethan's daughter at the end of the game cast doubt on whether or not the BSAA European Headquarters siege has already occurred due to her appearing to have aged nearly 15 years. If 15 years have genuinely passed, Capcom is more likely to emphasize her as a title character in Resident Evil 9 and use the BSAA arc for DLC.

These are only a tiny handful of plot threads that Capcom could explore in greater detail. RE Village could even go down a more ambitious path and shine a light on Heisenberg, implementing Magneto-like gameplay as Heisenberg's plans to overthrow Mother Miranda are slowly put in motion. Even the rumored Ada Wong was set to appear in Village and could be a puppeteer, further advancing the game's events behind the scenes. Whatever Capcom chooses to do, hopefully, they announce further details this summer as fans patiently wait for Resident Evil Village's DLC to release and organize some of the messier plot points.
