A few days ago we got our first look at the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth live-action installment to the film franchise based on the popular video games and today the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer has been unveiled.

While I thought the first Resident Evil was decent, I didn't like the second and third much at all. With that in mind, this trailer is actually pretty cool, albeit in a very different style than the previous movies.

The 5 images for Afterlife that came out earlier this week depicted visuals and scenery which seemed to emulate some of the notable action sequences played out in the Resident Evil 5 video game (the most successful selling game in the series) and all of these stills can be seen in the trailer below. Keep in mind that this teaser's focus is on emphasizing the 3D technology they're employing in the film, using the team and technology behind Avatar’s 3D.

With the music, action sequences and heavy use of slow-mo it is obvious they're trying to bring the feel of The Matrix movies into this movie in conjunction with the 3D visuals.

The trailer is surprisingly missing Wentworth Miller's character, Chris Redfield who's the protagonist in the latest franchise video game. I hope the bad guy, Albert Wesker, shows off some of his moves from the game when combating Milla Jovovich's Alice character.

When this film was first announced, I made the argument that they should instead make a film based on the game Resident Evil 5 and the photos and trailer show that they definitely are paying tribute to RE5, at least in the visuals, some of the characters and style.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It stars Milla Jovovich, Wentworth Miller, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Kim Coates and Kacey Barnfield

I'm interested in checking this out in theaters. Are you?

After switching release dates (again), Resident Evil: Afterlife hits theaters September 10, 2010.
