resident evil afterlife trailer Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer

A few days ago we got our first look at the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth live-action installment to the film franchise based on the popular video games and today the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer has been unveiled.

While I thought the first Resident Evil was decent, I didn’t like the second and third much at all. With that in mind, this trailer is actually pretty cool, albeit in a very different style than the previous movies.

The 5 images for Afterlife that came out earlier this week depicted visuals and scenery which seemed to emulate some of the notable action sequences played out in the Resident Evil 5 video game (the most successful selling game in the series) and all of these stills can be seen in the trailer below. Keep in mind that this teaser’s focus is on emphasizing the 3D technology they’re employing in the film, using the team and technology behind Avatar’s 3D.

With the music, action sequences and heavy use of slow-mo it is obvious they’re trying to bring the feel of The Matrix movies into this movie in conjunction with the 3D visuals.

The trailer is surprisingly missing Wentworth Miller’s character, Chris Redfield who’s the protagonist in the latest franchise video game. I hope the bad guy, Albert Wesker, shows off some of his moves from the game when combating Milla Jovovich’s Alice character.

When this film was first announced, I made the argument that they should instead make a film based on the game Resident Evil 5 and the photos and trailer show that they definitely are paying tribute to RE5, at least in the visuals, some of the characters and style.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It stars Milla Jovovich, Wentworth Miller, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Kim Coates and Kacey Barnfield

I’m interested in checking this out in theaters. Are you?

After switching release dates (again), Resident Evil: Afterlife hits theaters September 10, 2010.

  1. Ugh. So they're taking state of the art 3D technology and they're going to use it to fill the movie with gimmicky “stuff coming out of the screen shots.”

  2. i muted my computer halfway through it got so damn annoying. But it looks good at least.

  3. well.. it looks better than last resident evil movie, it was sooo bad! at least this one has some cool action sequences that might be worth watching:)

  4. finally a decent adaption of RESIDENT EVIL 5 game lol.

  5. From being a fan of great cinema and movie making, I thought the Resident Evil franchise was dead after the second film. But not playing the video game or even being a fan of them. The films in some way due justice for the video games that other movies have not, and that's speaking on behalf of friends who have played the games. The first film was good, the second was just ok! the third shoud've have been straight to DVD, but overall was not the worse thing ever. The trailer for Resident Evil 4 seems to be very fullfilling as far as action movies go. Let's just hope there's some good acting and writing and they stay on point with the video game, we might have another Fast and Furious on our hands.

  6. I really want to check this new film out. Chris Redfield just kicks so much ass. I wonder how they will introduce his character since he wasn't ever mentioned in Resident Evil: Extinction

  7. I'm really not looking forward to this. I can't stand how Alice went from Mary Sue to God-Mode Sue.

  8. I am thoroughly impressed this actually looks good. Especially they are going down the RE5 route.

  9. I think I actually dosed off for little watching that boring trailer. The only cool part was seeing Wesker but it seemed like Alice was doing the same exact motion in every scene.

  10. I for one am really tired of those Resident Evil movies.. They could've really put the material to better use in a film. It such a waste that they totally forgot the core of the franchise and decided to go the route of just action. Where's the survival horror element? I'm sorry but this is definitely a DVD rental.

  11. I think you hit this on the head. The beauty of the games when they first came out (haven't played since RE2, maybe RE3) was the whole zombie horror thing. The films have just gone the action route.

  13. Shot in the 3D that was used for Avatar. . . I may have to see it. But I've been let down by all of the movies. I always expected something better than I got and it is really disappointing. Perhaps this one will be different!

  15. What is the song? It's a remake of a song by A Perfect Circle.

  17. that is a perfect circle its just remixed. and this actually looks decent considering the past films and the lack of horror mabe paul has actually learned somthing from ALL his past FAILURES and im looking forward to seeing wesker in action its like they are actually making a movie witht he characters from the games like the good characters the ones that matter. so ill give it a chance. but dont mistake this for anticipation cause i have low expectations

  18. and they totally ripped the terminator salvation trailer line.machines out number the humans. this is john connor

  19. I love the trailer

  20. I'll be okay with this movie as long as they give Chris Redfield his due. He's is the life bread of the RE universe. It's first and most popular male protagonist. The light to Wesker's darkness. If he is only there for name value, and doesn't do much, then this flick is doomed from the start.

  21. its not just the movies tht did tht the games did tht aswell tht is why RE5 sold the most copies

  22. I hope Milla has a bigger role. She said like two words the entire last movie.

  23. Anyone else notice the blatantly stolen shots from Mission Impossible and Matrix Reloaded?

  24. The trailer looks very rough and the kind of sloppy. The action is still ALL wire fu, and it shows (ppl flying around in awkward positions? check).

My initial reaction is that they're focusing too much on the 3d/visuals/action and not enough of the story. The story looks like a mash up of a bunch of RE games. The first RE, although not great, had an interesting and suspenseful story to go along with the action. Not sure if this will. I believe the filmmakers are missing the point of RE games = horror, suspense and cool story mixed with some action.

I will watch this for sure but I do not expect much.

  25. Exactly. I found the previous three movies entertaining, but this just looks like a mess that's just there to show off the 3-D, which has already worn out its welcome for me and I haven't even seen one of these 3-D movies yet. I hate gimmicks. Just tell a decent story with some cool visuals and chances are I'll like it well enough to see it. This doesn't even intrigue me enough to want to wait 'til it hits video.

  26. I'm a big fan of the Resident Evil video games but I really hate these movies. they should have gone with a reboot with new people and more focus on horror.

  27. I seriously agree with you
everyone saying omg it looks like RE5 thats so good etc… are not proper Resi fans…apart from the crappy spinoffs on the PS2, Resi 5 is the worst one, i mean its fun but there's too much action not enough Resi… don't get me wrong im excited about the film as well, but only because it looks like its gonna be cool….looks to me like Alice (not even a real character “/ ) is never gonna be in trouble… and why the hell have they made Claire Redfield like that as well

@Mike487 , thats because she only has a part because she's Anderson's wife

  28. Fusion Camera System! WOW!!!!
That's reason enough to pay the $16.00 bucks at IMAXed out.

I can't WAIT to rent this!

  29. Come on Vic, it's all about the money, you know that.
Look at what Hollywood has been churning out the last few years; “Remakes” and “Reboots”

This reminds me of the first 3D movie I saw in the early 70's. It was a spaghetti western that had arrows, gold coins, gun barrels coming out of the screen. Not much has changed in thirty-something years.
