resident evil afterlife trailer Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer

A few days ago we got our first look at the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth live-action installment to the film franchise based on the popular video games and today the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer has been unveiled.

While I thought the first Resident Evil was decent, I didn’t like the second and third much at all. With that in mind, this trailer is actually pretty cool, albeit in a very different style than the previous movies.

The 5 images for Afterlife that came out earlier this week depicted visuals and scenery which seemed to emulate some of the notable action sequences played out in the Resident Evil 5 video game (the most successful selling game in the series) and all of these stills can be seen in the trailer below. Keep in mind that this teaser’s focus is on emphasizing the 3D technology they’re employing in the film, using the team and technology behind Avatar’s 3D.

With the music, action sequences and heavy use of slow-mo it is obvious they’re trying to bring the feel of The Matrix movies into this movie in conjunction with the 3D visuals.

The trailer is surprisingly missing Wentworth Miller’s character, Chris Redfield who’s the protagonist in the latest franchise video game. I hope the bad guy, Albert Wesker, shows off some of his moves from the game when combating Milla Jovovich’s Alice character.

When this film was first announced, I made the argument that they should instead make a film based on the game Resident Evil 5 and the photos and trailer show that they definitely are paying tribute to RE5, at least in the visuals, some of the characters and style.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It stars Milla Jovovich, Wentworth Miller, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Kim Coates and Kacey Barnfield

I’m interested in checking this out in theaters. Are you?

After switching release dates (again), Resident Evil: Afterlife hits theaters September 10, 2010.

  1. True, but that sunglasses throw is straight from the last video game.

  2. Love it. I loved RE5. One of my all-time favorite video games… I've enjoyed the movie as well… first one was my least favorite, the second was decent (loved Jill Valentine) and I really enjoyed the third. I hope we at least see a cameo from Jill and possibly even Sheva.

  3. I love that they are using music from a perfect circle in the trailer, im excited about the soundtrack. maybe it will feature some talented artist. hopefully maynard!

    • Definately!
bought both the first and second soundtracks soon as they came out they were awsome :]

  4. Please, God, let their be a version that's NOT in 3D. I love the Resident Evil series, so long Milla is in it, but I can't see 3D. Neither of my boys can see 3D either. I guess we'll eventually have to stop watching movies if this is how it's going to be from now on. Disappointed.

  5. does anyone know the movies budget ?

    • The budget was something like 16 million.

  6. i sort of have the same problem, my eyes hurt alot throughout 3D movies (only seen 2 but its safe to say its the 3D).
quick cuts, fast paced camera = sore eyes and a headache (sam worthington probably helped with the headache since he was screaming about every 2 minutes)

  7. I haven't seen anything on the budget but I searched for only a little while. Probably in the $50 mil range I would think. It really doesn't look that good. Resident Evil is supposed to be horror/suspense, not all action.

  8. This just makes me want to shoot a deuce on on every one (except Larter and jovovich) that is involved in this crap

  9. yeh but if they're making it in proper 3D (not converting it) then it would cost over 100 million, the special effects do look abit weak/low budget (look at the part when the zombie opens his mouth) but they would be somewhat costly.

i never really liked the res movies and i always thought the games where to predictable, so im sitting on the fence atm until i see another trailer or the movie itself.

  10. I blame Clash Of The Titans and their post 3D. That's just me- I think it's neat. ^_^

  11. I like the choice they made on the full 3D technology, but I think the trailer is the worst yet. This was…. awful. I used to love and respect this series. They've ruined it so thoroughly… The first one did modestly well, I think. They've been trying and failing to capture that ever since, I think…

  12. That´s just another 2 hour long advertisment for 3D technology. Nothing more.

  13. Really 3D again? I'm so over this crap. They could easily do it without. hope this breaks the curse of sucky video game movies.

  14. OH I am so there come 9/10/2010.

I too thought it felt a lot like the trailers for the First Matrix film when it was out just long enough to be a new release but not yet out long enough to become a sleeper hit.

I've been a Fan from the very First RE film. I remember going to see it at an afternoon matinee the second or third weekend of its release and the theater was packed. I couldn't believe how many people were at an afternoon matinee for something that had been out several weeks. Apparently its attendance picked up after word got out as to how good it was.

I was very disappointed by the last one, part 3 and so I hope they learned some lessons from that one and will be making part4 more like #1 and not like #3.

One thing is for certain, the RE series proves that the myth about video game to big screen translations is just that a big myth. You have to do it right but it CAN BE DONE and one more then once.

  15. Can not wait to see this movie! I am a huge fan of the RE series and this looks epic.

  16. Man looks killer! Was that a remix from A Perfect Circle, cause that doesn't sound like the original, but sounds even better!

  17. Yes I cant wait to watch it. I enjoyed all the movies thus far. They stray from the game but is still entertaining to me. And it does show Chris in the trailor. He is in the reflection of the sunglasses after Wesker throws it. A little lame though. I wanted to see him kick ass.

  18. I've sort of stopped caring about Resident Evil. I agree that they should just make Resident Evil 5 a movie or possible 4 (best game ever) but this trailer did look pretty sweet. Heck, I'll see the movie just to watch the seen with the big hammer guy…that got me a little excited

  19. This movie's gonna kick ass! Most of the gamers want an adaption that is so closely related 2 the story that it would be like paying 2 watch somthing u'v already played! all of the gamers that don't like the movies will find anything about this franchise 2 b**** about!

  20. somewhere know what song appear in the trailer, please!?

  21. Why do they keep making these? They are always bad! :)

  22. Para empezar me encanta R.E. y quisiera saber cual es el grupo que canta el trailer de R.E.4 x q es muy buena e intrigante jejeje..

  23. my send trailer
