resident evil 4 New Resident Evil 4 Images

Thanks to the folks over at UGO, we now have three new images from this fall’s 3D zombie/video game action flick Resident Evil: Afterlife. The new images give us a look at the main cast of the film, including that of franchise newcomer, Wentworth Miller.

Milla Jovovich will return once again as zombie killer Alice in Resident Evil: Afterlife.  The word from the actress herself is that her character will not have the superpowers granted to her in previous Resident Evil films – this time, she’ll have to depend on her regular gun-slinging, weapon-wielding skills to take out legions of undead monsters.

Miller (Prison Break) will join Jovovich in the film as Chris Redfield, a brawny warrior and protagonist of the original Resident Evil video game.  The character will make his on-screen debut in this new film as he follows Alice to Los Angeles – the setting for the latest battle between the Undead and some of the last surviving remnants of humanity.

Alice looks as ready as ever to kick some zombie butt in the new Resident Evil – even without helpful supernatural abilities – as you can see in the image below:

It looks as though Miller is prepping to throw his glasses towards the camera in this next image, a bit you might recall seeing briefly in the Resident Evil:Afterlife teaser trailer.  Hopefully, the “objects flying at the audience” trick won’t be used too much in the film, as it’s a gimmick that’s shown up WAY too often in several 3D films by now.

Redfield will join forces with Alice and his sister Claire (Alice Larter) in the new film as well.  Clair’s backstory in the original Resident Evil video games was altered significantly in the last film – Resident Evil: Extinction – which ended with her departing via helicopter along with a horde of other human survivors, while Alice went off to confront the villainous Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen).

Through some means, Claire finds herself once again fighting alongside Alice and her brother in the new Resident Evil adventure.  Judging by the image below, she’ll be armed and ready for action.

Resident Evil:Afterlife will see Paul W.S. Anderson back in the director’s chair for the first time since 2002.  His original Resident Evil is still regarded by many fans as the best in the series and Anderson’s kinetic style of filmmaking stands to benefit from the 3D format, so this new entry looks to have a better shot than Resident Evil: Extinction did back in 2007.

What do you think?  Does Miller look like a fine addition to the Resident Evil franchise?  Sound off in the comments section below.

Resident Evil: Afterlife hits regular, 3D, and IMAX screens in the U.S. on September 10, 2010.

  1. I have to admit, the teaser intrigued me.

  2. Looks like a big pile of MEH

  3. I think that this RE will end up being almost as bad as the last two. The whole 3D is a bit cool and might do some justice to the movie but this franchise has gotten as stale as could be. It is very unfortunate that the films did not go down the same story line as the video games did. The video games (especially everything before RE4) really went at it into constructing a fearful environment. There were few humans around and exploring the mansions only added to the creepiness of the films. They shoudl have just rebooted the franhise and started off the film along the lines of RE1 and then continued teh 2ns along the lines of RE2 (the video games). I doubt I will go to the theaters to see this next one. Def not worth the 3D admission price

  4. it will probably be some cool action:) and i think it will be entertaining.. but sadly i dont see this turning out to be a good movie. the last one certainly came on my list as one of the 10 worst movies i’ve watched. i have a feeling this will be better, but not all that good:\

  5. I know it’s only a small thing but I dont way he’s dressed
    he looks a bit generic
    he should look better

lol it’s obvious us movie fans will never like this franchise
even if the new one looks promising (compared to the others that is…even though we say that with every sequel they bring out)

  6. By the way Chris (Wentworth Miller) is not going to be throwing the glasses. He’s going to be catching them cause Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) threw them at him, to catch him off guard. If you watched the teaser trailer better and did your RE5 research ya wouldof known that…

    • My meaning was actually that it looked like Wenworth Miller was going to throw his glasses like Shawn Robert’s character does in the trailer. But it looks like you’re correct either way.

      My bad. :P

  7. Yeah, Miller will be catching the glasses that Wesker throws at them. And judging by his the look on his face afterwards, he isn’t intimidated at all. Chris Redfield vs. Wesker will be the only reason I’ll be seeing this film, personally.

  8. Is “ALI LARTER” no “ALICE LARTER” hahaha
I hope this movie be great, the art is amazing. Claire is so beautiful.
But i think Chris could have a hair a little more big, not skinhead.

    • Egads- sorry about that. :P

I guess my brain was malfunctioning while I wrote this or somewhat…

  9. Finally we just may have a September release that is not a huge dissapointment. I just watched RE 1 last night and man it is a classic; stands above everything else in the game to movie genere.

I remeber when RE came out and it had been out for a couple of weeks by the time I went to see it and even though it was a Sunday afternoon in the thrid week fo release, the show was packed with people.

  10. Man, I can’t WAIT to rent this! LOL!!

  11. i wouldnt have minded seeing some skin on miller, after all redfield is a built mother who owns :D

like everyone else i think this will be a ‘fun’ movie, but nothing to revive the franchise… i hope im wrong though, it would be cool if they dropped alice and just made the story about chris and his sister.

  12. i wonder if we can see Ali Larter naked instead. that would be hotter. it’s funny how Chris Redfield is wearing long sleeves to hide his weak arms. Alice losing her powers is a great thing

  13. They did a way better job with Claire’s costume. She still doesn’t have the ponytail, but at least she’s got the red vest and blue jeans.

But Chris’s costume sucks. It looks nothing like anything he’s worn from the games. I understand it’s a bit nitpicky, but these movies never do a good job of actually making the characters act like they did in the games (notable exception of Jill), the least they can do is make them look correct.

  14. Looks like this one is taking a lot from the RE5. The glasses being thrown, the big dude with the axe, and one of the most recent pics looks a lot like the ship they are on in the last part of the game.

  15. I can’t wait to see this one … I’m soo excited, I mean bringing back Paul W.S. Anderson, introducing a new caracter (Miller) and Producing it as 3D movie?! What could be better :P

  16. the movie looks to be awesome!! but i really want to know how Alice lost her powers.

  17. Wentworth Miller was amazing in the show Prison Break! He is amazing in this film and is a great addition to the Resident Evil franchise.
