Rockstar Games has something up its sleeves for the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2, according to a brief teaser image posted on the company's official Twitter page featuring nothing more than a time and date. With the familiar Red Dead font and red and black background, they tweeted:"Tuesday, September 28, 11AM ET."

Sparse in details though the post may be, fans of the game can likely expect some big news regarding the sequel (which, incidentally, is the third in the series, with Red Dead Revolver being the first). Up until this point, Rockstar Games has released some photos, information regarding prominent focus on the game's multiplayer experience (which proved to be mega successful in another popular Rockstar franchise, Grand Theft Auto V), and a brief teaser trailer, but September 28 promises to offer something even more significant.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed until Spring 2018 and is one of the most anticipated video games currently in production. It's following in the footsteps of other successful Rockstar Games sequels (specifically within the realm of Grand Theft Auto), which should leave gamers feeling rest assured, but it also suffers the risk of facing unrealistic expectations (No Man's Sky and Watch Dogs especially come to mind). If Rockstar can manage to elevate its predecessor's most beloved features, while also staying true to the source, Red Dead 2 can can very well exist in the pantheon of superior video game sequels.

In related news, there are rumors that the game will offer cross-play capabilities between Xbox One and PS4, the gaming platforms on which Red Dead 2 will be released. Whether Rockstar Games manages to live up to the rumor remains to be seen although it seems unlikely at this point given Sony's stance on not allowing cross-platform console play on popular multiplatform hits like Minecraft and Rocket League.

Though Rockstar Games has gone ahead and shared what little they could in the past few months to pacify fans (in May, they released a handful of screenshots from the sequel), the anticipation is nearly reaching a boiling point. So, hopefully whatever the announcement is referring to is enough to hold gamers over until the game's release.

Of the very little details that have been issued on behalf of the game, Rockstar Games has stated that it will be "an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."
