A couple of weeks ago we gave you a first look at an upcoming horror-thriller called The Collector. We had a few posters for the film, and the all-important first trailer. The latter was basically just a teaser that only hinted at the “shock-horror” elements of the actual film. However, for those who want to see the true gory nature of the movie, we have the red-band trailer for your viewing pleasure/terror.

Last week we reported on the not-so-shocking news that The Collector was almost a prequel to the über-popular Saw franchise. Now, looking at this red-band trailer, it’s not hard to see why that was almost the case. This basically looks like Saw with a different villain/killer and sans the “moralistic message” (at least that’s what I can guess at).

To check out the NSFW (read: bloody and violent) trailer you can head over to Bloody-Disgusting. If you want to see three clips from The Collector that expand on some of what you can see in the red-band trailer, you can head here (you better hurry, they may be pulled pretty soon).

I’m sure fans of torture-porn gory cinema like the Hostel and Saw movies will just about wet themselves over the red-band trailer for The Collector, but I gotta’ say, I’m not feeling it. Co-writer Patrick Melton himself said that the film won’t have “gore for the sake of it,” but going by this trailer (and those clips) it’s hard to believe that statement.

I was really looking forward to The Collector up until I got a more in-depth look at the true nature of the movie. I know there’s an audience out there for this kind of thing – those who say “The more gore, the better!” – but it’s just not my cup of tea. I’ll probably still check out the movie just to see if, perhaps, there is some kind of context for all this blood, gore and violence. But my anticipation for it just took a serious nose-dive.

What do you think of the red-band trailer for The Collector? Do you like the fact that it’s really bloody, violent and gory?

The Collector hits US theaters on July 31, 2009. There’s currently no release date set for the UK.
