I’m going to go out on a limb and call [REC] one of the scariest movies ever made. I know my colleagues here agree, it’s up there. The sequel, [REC] 2 was released in Spain last October. Now, thanks to the genuine cult fan base, we may just get a full theatrical run.
Bloody Disgusting reported that Magnolia Pictures is planning to send the horrifying footage of [REC] 2 to theaters this July, followed by a DVD release in October.
In case you don’t know, here’s a quick synopsis for [REC] 2. WARNING! It contains SPOILERS about the first [REC] movie!
“In the sequel it has been just 15 minutes after authorities lost contact with the people locked in the building under quarantine. Nobody knows what happens inside. Outside is chaos…a SWAT unit enters the interior of the house to monitor the situation and determine what is happening. A seemingly quick and easy task, But everyone knows. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving.”
American audiences were given a nearly shot-for-shot remake of the Spanish instant classic when Quarantine released in 2008. Needless to say, it didn’t measure up to the Spanish version. With [REC] 2, it seems that the studio is finally realizing that the originals are usually better and it’s not such a bad idea to release it worldwide. Forget the remakes and give us the real thing.
I never got a chance to see [REC] 2, but considering how awesome the first one was, I’ll be there on opening day if this goes through, possibly with an extra pair of pants. Will you?
[REC] can be found on DVD and [REC] 2 may hit theaters in July.

I found absolutely nothing special about the 1st film. As for it being “one of the scariest movies ever made”, I'll have to disagree with you on that one. I found nothing scary about epileptic camera work and poor lighting.
yeah i know what you mean, the camera was very bad.
i thought it was a pretty good movie on the whole, it could have been better but it was ok, the remake was good (american one), better then the original imo, since it was more graphic and had better camera work.
dont watch this garbage, i just watched it online and it is the worse crap ever.
its all about possessed people, its not a virus, just possessed people running around (they dont show up until half way into the movie, and even then its not all the people who got 'infected' just a few) the ending is complete garbage.
this movie could have been good but turned out to be the biggest joke ever, probably worse then hollywood adaptations of asian horrors (and those are bad)
dont waste money watching it in the cinema, if you must just hire it.

I thought the first was boring and not scary at all until the very final scene. By far not one of the scariest films ever made, not in the least bit. So really, I don't see how this can be that great.
