Re-Animator Remake Coming In 3D

Re-Animator imageIt seems that Hollywood doesn’t have the wisdom to read Screen Rant’s remakes and sequels article, as they seem persistent in continuing the trend. The latest classic horror film to get the remake treatment is Re-Animator. But not only will it be remade but it’s to be in 3D too!

As if bringing dead bodies back to life wasn’t enough on its own…

Thanks to ShockTillYouDrop we have the news that producer Ray Haboush is developing the remake of the 1985 horror film, alongside the producer of the original film Brian Yuzna (who also directed Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator).

Haboush and Yuzna are planning to develop the project for 3D, and there’s no word yet if star of the original Jeffrey Combs will be coming back or not.

The original Re-Animator is a film I have very, very vague memories of (the only thing I remember vividly from it is a white lab coat and a headless body) so I can’t say exactly if a remake is warranted or not. However by looking at some of the images, reading the synopsis and generally trying to jog my memory of the film I can say that I don’t think a Re-Animator film would work nowadays.

It comes off very much like a through and through ’80s flick – the campy, almost comedic nature of it was suited to the style of films in that era but nowadays it’s rare that a comedy/horror can work (I’m not saying it’s not possible, it’s just a heck of a lot harder to get right than a straight horror).

And as far as it being in 3D goes I don’t think there is any point in it. It doesn’t strike me as the type of film that needs to be in 3D (unlike the recent My Bloody Valentine - also a remake by the way – which had pickaxes and the like coming out of the screen at you) and it strikes me as just another on the 3D bandwagon just for the sake of it.

More on this Re-Animator remake as more news gets released but for the moment what are your thoughts on the general idea of it?

    I remember this movie . It’s silly and stupid and its also a lot of fun.
    The zombie fans don’t seem to be dwindling , as far as I can tell. So , I think Re-Animator could be spun into a modern zombie flick and would get butts in the theatre seats ( on the opening weekend , at least ).

    I’m not a big fan of zombie movies but I admit that I really liked 28 Days Later and I loved Shaun of The Dead.

    Seen it a few times over the last year. Love it, if it is very gorey. I mean really gorey, and the end was quite weird, if fitting.

    Oops. Meant to say -

    Personally not up for a remake. 3D won’t add enough to it. It had a very macabre tone that I don’t think a new one would want to recapture.
    Sure the 3D would just be for the gore and zombies.

    Also prefer to see Coombes have nothing to do with it, but loving seeing him.
