There have been some outrageous and some obviously scripted moments in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta that makes each reunion special better than the last. One of the reasons the show is such a hit even after so many years is because it’s better crafted than most reality TV shows. Keeping Up With The Kardashians has quite a few scripted moments as well, but RHOA simply knows how to push the drama.

Some of the storylines on the show have been quite unbelievable, from the problematically named ‘Lesbiangate’ to Kenya Moore’s fake African Prince, the show never ceases to amaze its fans.

Johnnie Vs Kandi

This may have been one of the few moments on the show which fans found relatable, especially in the social media age where everyone with a job has to be super vigilant about what they post.

Johnnie was working as an event planner for Kandi Burruss when she came across a post that indirectly called Kandi fake. To be fair, the post was about Johnnie’s personal reflection about certain experiences in his life and he is entitled to share that on his social media. But at the same time, one can see why Kandi would be upset over this. In 2016, Johnnie sued Kandi for unpaid overtime pay, but the case was settled in 2018.

The Lead Up To Nene And Kim’s First Big Blowout

RHOA's Kim Zolciak on WWHL

The first-ever reunion of the show cemented Nene Leakes and Kim Wozniak’s relationship as rocky and beyond repair. It’s obvious that the two friends have a lot of grievances against each other and the first season was unbelievably tumultuous for the two. In the first season, Kim was dating a mystery man, whose face wasn’t shown on camera but who lavished her with expensive jewelry and also supported her lifestyle.

During the reunion, Nene alleged that she’s dating a married man, to which Nene uttered her infamous clap back, “Close your legs to married men.”

The Miss America Debacle

This storyline was brief was definitely stunned a lot of fans because it had no real substance, and yet was chock-a-block with drama. During a show, Porsha introduced the former pageant winner Kenya as Miss America instead of Miss USA, which was an honest and very fixable mistake. But Kenya didn’t just take offense, she was in no mood to forgive Porsha.

Their tensions traveled with them during their tropical girl’s trip, where Kenya verbally attacked Porsha repeatedly and left the argument with her now-famous ‘Gone with the wind fabulous’ comment.

Sheree Vs Anthony

Sheree Whitfield talking to her party planner on RHOA

It’s tough to win an argument with any of the Housewives, especially when they’re prepared with receipts, but Antony the party planner did try very hard. Sheree was not happy with Anthony’s approach because he wouldn’t answer his queries about her big Independence party and was rude to her on a call.

“Every time I bring up concerns about the party to Anthony, I get attitude, he gets upset, he gets smart. Who does that? This is your business,” said Sheree. Things escalate to a really nasty point where they both scream at each other for several minutes and even call each other trash.

The Super Anxious Wedding

It’s no secret that Cynthia had some major jitters before getting married to Peter, so much so that when she took some time to get to the altar, her friends had already started thinking she wasn’t going to show up at all. Cynthia had also been very vocal about her anxieties and wedding jitters, but what made the episode so interesting is that just like any other wedding, the bride’s friends found some things to criticize pertaining to the set-up and decor.

Cynthia was getting married at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and in spite of the spectacular arrangements, Sheree remarked that it showed that Cynthia cut some corners at the million-dollar wedding.

Phaedra’s Lie

RHOA Phaedra Parks

One of the most shocking storylines on the show was definitely the one involving Phaedra Parks’ date rape lie about Porsha. Phaedra spread a rumor that indicated that Kandi and her husband Todd Tucker wanted to drug Porsha and take her to their sex dungeon. Phaedra was caught in this lie on camera during filming and was told that she had been fired.

Though her castmates were shocked, she maintained that she only repeated what she had heard. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have repeated it. I didn't know. If something would have happened to you, I would have been a bad friend,” she told Porsha during the reunion.

Porsha’s Protests

Though the show gained a reputation for being outrageous and seemingly scripted, it has been trying to make an impact in recent years, which has helped it find a stronger footing with younger viewers.

Porsha has been pursuing her activism quite seriously this year and was an active participant in the Black Lives Matter Protest, where she even got arrested when she was protesting for justice for Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky. She was charged with obstructing a highway and disorderly conduct in the second degree.

The Mother’s Day Lunch

The cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta

This could have been a really great way for the women to connect in an off-duty, family-style fashion since it was Mother’s Day and Cynthia had made a fantastic homely lunch, but things obviously took a turn for the worse when the ladies start talking.

From Nene’s plastic surgery to the several comments about Phaedra’s pregnancy and her due date, the ladies really did make things messy and quite entertaining, especially because the long lunch ended with each of them doling out hacks for a better sex life.

Kenya’s Fake African Prince

This was definitely one of the funniest and entertaining storylines to have ever happen on the show, especially because everyone was thrown off by it. Kenya Moore’s fake African Prince boyfriend had made headlines when the girls claimed that they had never met him and that he was fake.

The person in question was an African singer named D’Banj, who was not royalty in any way, and during the reunion, Nene was forced to open up as she confronted Kenya about her ‘fauxmance.’ Things turned even messier when Walter Jackson claimed that he had been offered a large sum of money to play Kenya’s love interest in the first season of the show and believed her new royal romance to be fake.

The Donations Fiasco

Andy Cohen and the cast of RHoA season 10 in the reunion show

In the explosive Season 6 finale, Nene pledged to donate $20,000 to Detroit Public Schools Foundation in an attempt to make up for her rude behavior at one of Kenya’s charitable events and she also asked Kenya to match her donation. In the next season's reunion, when Kenya questions Nene about the donation, Nene reveals that she has not donated the money yet.

Though Kenya criticized Nene rather harshly for not keeping her word, the charity in question also revealed to the media that they hadn’t received any donation from Kenya either.
