2012 razzie awards 2012 Razzie Nominations: Adam Sandler & Transformers 3 Lead the Pack

Just in time for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony, nominees have been announced for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards. “Winners” of the awards (meant to (dis-) honor the “Worst Achievements in Film” during 2011) will be accordingly announced this year on (when else?) April Fools’ Day.

Leading the pack of 2012 Razzie contenders are some usual suspects, in the form of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Adam Sandler in a record-breaking nomination run, due to his involvement with such critically-ravaged titles as Just Go with It, Jack and Jill, and Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Sandler has managed to smash Eddie Murphy’s record for most Razzie nods in a single year (the latter received 5 back in 2007) by stacking up a whopping 11 nominations in 2012. That’s due to Sandler – the indisputed king of “high-concept” blockbuster comedy – having played three different roles onscreen last year, while also being paired up as a screen couple opposite multiple actresses AND an actor. Sandler also co-wrote both Jack and Jill and Bucky Larson (which he also served as a producer on).

The third Transformers flick was next in line as the big 2012 Razzie nod “winner,” thanks largely to the film’s human players like Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ken Jeong, and Patrick Dempsey all landing nominations. The Transformers films may be Oscar-nominated for their technical achievements, but the franchise’s non-CGI characters remain as unpopular as ever.

Overall, the 2012 Razzie nominees have proven to be a familiar lot, composed of cash-cow franchises (Transformers, Twilight) and well-established actors (Sandler, Nicolas Cage) that moviegoers love to hate. Feel free to let us know who else you think should’ve been “honored” with a Razzie – or, alternatively, doesn’t deserve the flack they’re receiving – in the comments section of this article.

  1. I don’t understand why Transformers 3 got so much hate. I’ll easily admit that the whole human part of the movie (especially the first hour and a half) was pretty awful, but the last hour or so of the movie was absolutely amazing and featured some of the greatest action scenes ever. It was a HUGE step-up from the second one. And, say what you will, but Michael Bay does not need to be up on that list. I just think these voters love to pick movies to hate on. If anything, Green Lantern should have taken a few of Transformers’ pointless nominations. I was definitely surprised to not see that on the list at all.

    • I knew some Green Lantern hater like yourself would be pissed!!
LOL!! GL Rules!!! Ha ha ha……

      • I’m not a “hater”. As a matter of fact, I am a HUGE Green Lantern fan and I was extremely disappointed in the lackluster movie that was given to us. With right people working on it, it could’ve been the biggest movie of 2011; instead, we got a poorly-edited mess that has been all but forgotten by now. Don’t assume too much.

        • completely agree with you on this one … Transformers 3 was a far better film than GL

          • No, it really was NOT. I found GL vastly better than TF3. Was it perfect? No. It WAS, however, much better done than TF3.

            • Well, I had fun with both films.

              • Oh, I did too, but with TF3, it only lasted while the movie was actually on the screen.

            • Actually, if you read Green Lantern books you’d realize that no, it was in fact not “better done”.

              • I both did and still do read GL…it WAS a better made, more enjoyable film than TF3, in my opinion. You, of course, are entitled to disagree, but would simply be YOUR opinion.

    • I agree, I loved TF3. I saw it twice in the theater and bought the blu-ray the day it came out. I loved that movie

    • People, people, let’s just call it even–
      They’re both terrible films.

    • Waiting for the Green Lantern reboot…

  2. Sandler is truly deserving of all the nominations. And I think he knows it.

    • Agreed.

  3. Adam Sandler should just get “The Life Time Achievment Razzie Award” now! Get it over with and out of the way now, for all future generation’s peace and well being.

Have we all not already suffered enough?

  4. Transformers 3 was actually enjoyable ( the final half atleast) and Breaking Dawn part 1 isnt as bad as people say. Its bad-ok. Jack and Jill lol, yeah it deserves to be on the list. But I would say replace Transformers 3 with another definitely.

    • Nah, T3 should be up there. Shia, Jeong, the Witwickies, Turturro, Tudyk, and Malkovich all played cartoon character mental patients in an unbalanced cheese fest. I couldn’t even sit through the movie.

    • Yeah honestly, 3 wasn’t THAT bad, the first was one of the worst films I’ve seen the camera shots made me so angry that I couldn’t see anything. The second was was just plain stupid you’d think after the first one and him understanding how bad it was he would have made a better one. I could not believe how mindless the Dark of the Moon was. The third was better in almost every way some stupid stuff in there but a vast improvement overall, better than I was expecting.

      • If the third was the first film I would agree with you,it was better than 2 in some ways and had some of what I wanted to see from T1,but T1 wasn’t such of a drag fest where the humans were concerned, also the jokes were not so forced and made the movie felt just plain stupid…I’m remembering one of the scenes where Sam accidentally rubbed his hand in the guy around the monitor hair..ungh…T3 had some badass Transformer on Transformer action tho,but barely re watchable.

  5. Adam Sandler definitely deserved every single nomination, same with the twilight movie. I think that it’s great for these sucky movies and actors finally get the recognition they want. Especially the twilight movies. There should be a special award for wanting to make me puke. Good news, there’s only 1 movie left…

  6. I honestly don’t think transformers isn’t that bad and while new years eve wasnt a good movoe there were still plenty of other movies that where worst that came out this year like apollo 18 and battle la

  7. The Transformer’s movies are a paradox. Overall the movies are awful yet they still have a devoted , hard core following make crap loads of money. But also, they have the most amazing visual effects. Michael Bay is a genius at this.

Having established that, Bay could have been the perfect man to direct the IRON MAN films. Consider all the non stop action and robotic/ high tech visuals he puts into the Transformer movies in an Iron Man franchise.
It’s not as if we look at Iron Man for deep, meaningful drama lol. Iron Man 2 was WEAK and now Marvel has hired some chap who barely has ONE movie under his belt.
A lot of peeps give Bay a lot of crap but his movies make billions. Is it any wonder Spielberg and Paramount begged him to direct Transformers 4?

    • Michael Bay shouldn’t be a director… he should just be a visual effects editor, or whatever the proper title is for that.

  8. Not the best of years for Hollywood when the nominations
for Razzies have more credibility than those for the Oscars.

  9. Green Lantern definitely deserves a Razzie. That was awful.

    • It was average. Transformers 1 & 2 were awful.

  10. I find it very distressful that Martin Lawrence is a multi-millionaire. In fact, I think this one thing is the major cause of economic, social and spiritual decline in the world…

  11. Suprised Green Lantern didt make it on here lol

Why is David Spade & Brandon T Jackson in Worst Supporting Actress? Does it have something to do with playing a female role?

    • Yeah Im guessing.

IMO they are wrong on that account and could add other REAL females.

To list those two as actresses just makes no sense what so ever.

  12. Transformers 3 wasn’t that bad, I enjoyed it. However, Sandler has been making such garbage. I can not believe people voted him as “funniest actor” at the Peoples Choice Awards. Must have been a bunch of tweens, the same ones that vote Twilight as best movie every year at the MTV Movie Awards.

I watched Jack & Jill (not in theaters) and it didn’t even give me a chuckle. Terrible! I didn’t even finish it.

  13. Hard to believe there are no Green Lantern Razzie Nominations. WTF??

I know. When Green Lantern 2 comes out, it’ll be a clean sweep.

Green Lantern 2: Starring Adam Sandler as Hal Jordan.
    Directed by Michael Bay.

  14. I for one am glad SR managed to get past the unwarranted Green Lantern hate. It is not the best movie but definitely doesn’t deserve to THE worst overall movie of 2011 (although it might be the worst superhero movie of last year but that is not a category ;) )

And as bad as some of those pictures are, I would vote Twilight all the way.

    • Transformers gets 8 nominations yet Smurfs, Spy Kids, Shark Night 3D, Judy Moody, Sucker Punch, Dylan Dog gets none? You have every right to dislike Transformers but to say it’s worst than any of those I just mentioned is insane. It’s all about popularity.

      • True dat.

        • Agreed.

      • Errrm, where did I say I said Transformers was the worst? I think someone read the the “T” and not the rest of the word attached to it ;)

    • @mongoose unwarranted green lantern hate is bad, but unwarranted first class hate good?

      • 1) I expect SR, as a group, to be held to a higher standard than just one person’s opinion.

        2) The XMFC hate is not unwarranted. They deserve every unkind word for twisting the canon so badly and attempting to shoehorn that prequel into the X-Men Singer-verse.

        3) If SR had been willing to go to the lengths on XMFC that they did with GL vs the comics, I wouldn’t have had as much of a problem but they went on a Jihad to trash it in every way possible (and continue to diss it at every turn). An XMFC vs the comics would have revealed that movie deviated WAY more than GL ever did but yet that comparison article was never made for some reason.

  15. I think it would be great if every actor or actress that appeared in New Years Eve got a trophy.
And I want to get a petition going for “The Adam Sandler Lifetime Acheivement In Stink Award”. They don’t have to give it every year. Just when it gets to the point when it can no longer be ignored.
Or “The Al Pacino You Should Be Ashamed of Yourself Award”. That goes to the actor/ actress who once was considered one of the greats but who now is just embarassing themselves.

  16. Transformers 3 wasn’t that bad, as bad as the acting was, it was always a bit tongue in cheek, and besides, the special effects more than made up for it.

Green lantern should have been up there, that film was aweful. When Hal Jordan first gets his suit and they train him, I honestly thought it was a B movie. The script was worse than Transformers 3.

What I still can’t understand is, were the f##k they spent the money on Green Lantern, it supposedly cost a couple of hundred million, my ass it did.

Jack and Jill….. OMFG!!! I watched the trailer for it, and promptly decided not to watch it. Wtf has hsppened to Adam Sandler, he makes ‘Reign On Me’, puts in a decent performance of a guy thats had to go through the loss of his family, then makes a few mediocre comedy films, to this sh#t…. I wouldn’t even download Jack and Jill for free, nevermind pay to watch it lol.

I haven’t posted on this site for a while, ‘cos I got real tired of the Shutter Island BS. Just to set the record straight, Shutter Island made no sense, and is and always will be the worst film I have ever seen (3 times to see if I missed anything). It should also be up for a Razzie every year for worst film as it is that bad.

  17. Well now, this is quite the list. Transformers 3 was alright. Of course Twilight would be on there. I mean I mildly enjoyed them. I feel there just going with movies that have a buzz and nominating those. There are some weaker movies out there.

  18. I think Green Lantern didn’t make the list is because it was a forgettable film: everybody forgot about it!

Hard to forget Transformers 3, though.

  19. I am fairly satisfied with these nominations…

  20. The only good thing about transformers is the visual effects, thats all…..when they try to be funny, they arent, when they try to be serious & dramatic, they look absurd….accept that Transformers films are crap…..you go for the battles….dont try to defend the story….

    • Amen

  21. Sarah Palin? Getting sooooo tired of the hating leftists’ continual fixation on this woman. As she is not an actress, her inclusion here is obviously unwarranted, but hey, whatever makes you leftists feel elite and smug. Did you get your little snicker upon reading her name?

    • Jeff, that comment is so out of place. Do you really love the woman who has accomplished nothing, ever, that much?

      • I suppose being governor of Alaska is not an accomplishment, nor is being nominated for vice president. Do you really hate her that much? Sad…

    • No, Palin is no actress. That would be impossible since she would be incapable of memorizing her lines. Unless they were written on her hand.
She’s no actress but she is a phony.
In regards to Palin I believe they were making 2 legitimate points:

      1. She was the subject of a documentary film that was atrocious in it’s execution. A subjective piece of self worship and shameless propaganda.

      2. The irony ( and ignorance ) of naming your own documentary The Undefeated when in fact, said subject WAS Defeated in more ways than one.

If that’s not enough, just check out Rotten Tomatoes. It has a ZERO percent critic rating. Now that’s an achievement !

      • Kryptonic, everything you say is colored by your first few sentences. Hater, pure and simple, and thus, you seek to belittle, demonize, and stereotype others.

    • Jeff…

Palin was in a movie, so her inclusion in an awards system dedicated to movies (whether taken seriously, or not) IS indeed justified.

      • Riddle me this…has a liberal democrat politician ever been nominated here? No? They have been in movies, even making their own, like Al Gore’s propaganda piece on global warming.

        • Truth be told, I have no idea. I do not actually pay attention to the Razzies. You are welcome to see if any other political figures have ever been nominated and report back to all of us. Is it razzies.com or something else?

    • well, I’m a true conservative actually a paleo conservative and I dont like her either so there ya go.

      • If you were a true conservative, you would not accept, endorse, or engage in the tactics of the left. So, assuming you actually believe what you say is true, and you are not simply a poser here, you have much to learn…

  22. Why was The Hangover 2 nominated?!?! Its not as good as the first but its still good

  23. The Razzie Awards show does not need to exist! Who cares who or what is the worst? What is important is who is who or what is the best!

    • I firmly disagree.

  24. Why is James Franco nomiated? He’s awesome and that wasnt really a bad comedy. I think it’d be funny if New Years Eve won for worst cast ensembel since its all A list actors lol

    • Your Highness was the biggest comedy disappointment last year, that entire film should’ve been nominated and then win for worse film.

  25. After re-reading the article and some of the comments that have been posted, it just dawned on me what a load of crap the razzies actually are.

For instance, look at the films that have been included, one or two deserve to be there, but the rest…. REALLY!!!

Their have been far worse films than the latest Twilight or Transformers films, and including James Franco in the worst supporting actor category is just hilarious. James Franco was most probably told to act like that by the director ie ham it up and be way over the top macho, as it was a f##kin comedy film.

To be honest the films that should be there aren’t, and it’s like the people that chose theses films, did so to get some cheap publicity for the Razzie awards. For this reason, don’t be suprised if one of the BIG films picks up one of the main awards…. CHEAP PUBLICITY BS!

Another poster has mentioned what films should actually be up for these awards. Let me mention a few of my own:

    1. Johnny English Reborn. The film made me laugh once, and cringe for the remainder.

    2. Green Lantern. Still suprised at how Warner Bros. f##ked this one up.

    Finally,

    3. Sucker Punch. This is what happens when a director is given to much rope, he hangs himself with it :).

    • Ahh Sucker Punch was also one of those average films, I wouldn’t class it as bad as such it just took the male demographic in with it’s visuals but didn’t give us enough action and story, too much chick stuff and dancing/talking.

  26. Why is it not letting me post…? It’s saying that my reply is spam and that it’s blocked.

  27. How come nobody has said how rediculous and stupid the plot for tranformers 3 was? I understand that robots and that stuff is fake but that doesn’t mean you can completely change the fact that you can’t bring another planet that close into our earth. It would comepletey screw everything up. Terrible movie much like everything else on the razzie list

  28. Justin timberlake should be on there for his performance in, In Time, the guy was more wooden than Pinnochio.

  29. I enjoyed Green Lantern much more than Transformers 3. Maybe because I had less expectations for GL, but the characters were much less annoying than the ones in TF3. I don’t think the action and fighting robots made up for bad first half, because I’ve already seen plenty of action scenes with robots fighting in the first two Transformers movies. I had hopes that it would make up for the second film, but although it wasn’t as bad, I still left the cinema disappointed.
