2012 razzie awards 2012 Razzie Nominations: Adam Sandler & Transformers 3 Lead the Pack

Just in time for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony, nominees have been announced for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards. “Winners” of the awards (meant to (dis-) honor the “Worst Achievements in Film” during 2011) will be accordingly announced this year on (when else?) April Fools’ Day.

Leading the pack of 2012 Razzie contenders are some usual suspects, in the form of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Adam Sandler in a record-breaking nomination run, due to his involvement with such critically-ravaged titles as Just Go with It, Jack and Jill, and Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Sandler has managed to smash Eddie Murphy’s record for most Razzie nods in a single year (the latter received 5 back in 2007) by stacking up a whopping 11 nominations in 2012. That’s due to Sandler – the indisputed king of “high-concept” blockbuster comedy – having played three different roles onscreen last year, while also being paired up as a screen couple opposite multiple actresses AND an actor. Sandler also co-wrote both Jack and Jill and Bucky Larson (which he also served as a producer on).

The third Transformers flick was next in line as the big 2012 Razzie nod “winner,” thanks largely to the film’s human players like Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ken Jeong, and Patrick Dempsey all landing nominations. The Transformers films may be Oscar-nominated for their technical achievements, but the franchise’s non-CGI characters remain as unpopular as ever.

Overall, the 2012 Razzie nominees have proven to be a familiar lot, composed of cash-cow franchises (Transformers, Twilight) and well-established actors (Sandler, Nicolas Cage) that moviegoers love to hate. Feel free to let us know who else you think should’ve been “honored” with a Razzie – or, alternatively, doesn’t deserve the flack they’re receiving – in the comments section of this article.

  1. 1. Why is Sarah Palin in this? I don’t remember Al Gore or Bill Maher getting nominated for their crappy ‘documentaries’.
    2. Transformers 3 doesn’t belong on this list. Green Lantern does. And I liked both. But T3 did $350M+ and was 2nd to Harry Potter for 2012. That is not ‘worst movie’ material.
    3. Why didn’t Green Hornet or Bad Teacher or Justin Beiber: Never Say Never or No Strings Attached or Mr. Popper’s Penguins or Hall Pass or Scream 4 or Final Destination 5 or Priest or Abduction or Your Highness or Mars Needs Moms or Conan the Barbarian or Shark Night 3D or Fright Night or Glee the 3D Concert Movie. Get nominated?

Trust me there were some really crappy movies out this year. That said, Bucky Larson and Twilight should sweep em all.

    • Why is Sarah Palin in this? I asked the same question above. I am sure the elitist, leftist, liberal who first suggested her is getting a pompous, smug little chuckle from it, as are all the liberals who read her name. It is so sad, that people hate so much, that they would make a caricature out of a human being, and continually belittle, demonize, and stereotype her. It just shows how much they need to feed their own egos, by putting other people down.

      • Wait, but don’t liberals and conservatives do that to each other? Not to start a political rant here, but I think the conservatives have been doing everything you just said to each other and to the president since he took the Oath of Office.

With that said, the Razzies are supposed to be a SPOOF of the Oscars, i.e. no one really takes them seriously.

        • Tarkin713, there is a difference between disagreeing with someone’s policies and making a caricature out of them, stripping them of their humanity in the process. Generally speaking, for as long as I can remember, whereas conservatives might think liberals misguided and/or naive, liberals have sought for years to paint conservatives as being cartoonishly stupid, criminal, and/or even demonic. I don’t know how old you are, but for whatever ill will you see toward Obama, it was ten times worse against Bush. People even sought to make Reagan, arguably one of our greatest presidents, out to be a moron. The tactic, if successful, effectively shuts someone out of consideration, as if you can belittle and dehumanize them, then they are not “worthy” of being included in the public discussion. Case in point, Palin, being a conservative, endorses smaller government, individual responsibility, and living within our means. Real rebellious, huh?

    • You should be head of the razzies bro. Best thing I’ve heard all day!

    • Gore’s documentary was about the environment, not about him. Maher’s mockumentary was making fun of religion. Neither doc had the named head as it’s primary focus. Palin WAS the focus of hers…the reason for its existence, in fact. I’m not saying you have like or even respect any of the videos or their narrators/subjects/whatever or that they were good or bad. I am just pointing out that you are comparing apples to oranges, if you’ll pardon the cliche’ expression.

Also, I must ask why we are turning this into a political discussion instead of staying on the subject at hand…?

      • Oh, and Jeff and Shazaam…

Snarling at one side OR the other of a pointless argument really is not helping your credibility.

If Richard Did head the Razzies choosing committee, wouldn’t he have to do the EXACT same thing they currently do: pick based on his OPINION? How would that make any real difference…other than the fact that YOU prefer his to theirs? Their choices are jokes (funny or not is a discussion for another time) and we’re only mentioned because of the Oscars being presented tonight.

      • Sheesh!

        *DID

        *were only mentioned

      • The Razzies turned this into a political discussion by unnecessarily including Sarah Palin, who is not an actress. If they had ever included a liberal democrat politician, I am sure people on the left would be protesting. Her inclusion was a political stunt, pure and simple. Somebody with the Razzies did not like her, and they got their pompous “sh-ts and giggles” by nominating her. This demented fixation on constantly tearing her down is pathetic.

    • Box office success does not translate into good, or even watchable, movies and vice versa. Critical bombs, Pearl Harbor or Sex and the City 2 made a ton of money while Donnie Darko barely made $1 million (and that’s after two theatrical releases!).

    • did you see half the movies you just listed because I can tell you some of those did perfectly fine. The ones nominated are the ones that were the overall worst. The majority did not like them.

    • Scre4m had a scary, funny and all-round good script that was translated to the screen in a manner not really the fault of Kevin Williamson. But the film in itself, is nog Razzie material. It was by far, not the worst film of 2011

  2. Wow the fact that Green Lantern is not on the list is something else… There was so much wrong with that movie(where is the podcast of it?)Buckey Larson was the first movie in a long time that I wanted to leave before it was half over. I thonk if Sandler wound not put out soo many movies in a year he would not get soo much scorn, and mabye put out a better product too.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Sarah Palin were weird choices. I Don’t Know How She Does It was a ok movie. Must have been a “she was in a movie, so we will nominate her. I didn’t see Palin’s movie, doc., fluff pice, etc. But I doubt she was acting in it. Nominating the movie insted would have made more sence.

  3. Does anyone else agree that Twilight should automatically win every award it’s nominated for?

    • YES, yes I do. It is deserving just out on principle.

    • hell yeah)))

  4. “THE HANGOVER PART II (Both a Sequel AND a Remake!)”

LMAO!!! I’m glad some people are smart enough to see this…

  5. I never even knew this award show existed! :D
I can’t believe the actors would actually WANT to receive their awards lol.

    • I believe there are only a handful of actors and actresses who are secure and confident enough to accept such an award – in person and with a twinkle in their eye. Didn’t Sandra Bullock at one point go to accept one of these in person?

      • Halley Barry recieved her Razzie for Catwoman just after she got her Oscar (forgot what for though).

        • Monster’s Ball, I think. And Tom Green accepted his in person for Freddie Got Fingered.

  6. Michael bay shouldnt be on this list!!!wth?transformers was good

  7. Why isn’t In Time on this list?

That was a terrible movie that could have been good but the writing was awful and the acting subpar?

and why isn’t Bad Teacher nominated for anything? Justin Timberlake did not do a good job in that movie either.

  8. transformers shouldn’t be on the list it made 1.1 billion $ and is the 4ht highest grossing movie of all time. there were way worse films last yr like twilight, that s*** shouldn’t even be made. i heard there was a justin beiber movie as well, that should be burnt to the ground!

  9. Great now even the Razzies are getting political. I never thought they’d stoop as low as the people they usually make fun of. Sarah Palin being nominated was totally unneccesary. It’s a cheap jab at the right. I might not renew next year :(

  10. u cant go wrong with any of these movies they are all terrible films. and yes sarah palin deserves to be critized for that movie too. u people on the right are so sensitive….its just a pretend award chill out. and she is an actress by virtue of the fact that she “acted” in that film/documentary. anf it was terrible so thatt makes her fair game. why dont u get all upset when snl or jay leno, fox news etc. make far more cruel remarks about our president?

    • @da-truth

Yah, those crazy people on the right. You, on the other hand, are completely fair and objective. I’m sure you’ll be making the same argument if they had Al Gore in the running instead. Yep, I’m positive you’ll have the same exact position you have now… ;-)

  11. u cant go wrong with any of these movies they are all terrible films. and yes sarah palin deserves to be critized for that movie too. u people on the right are so sensitive….its just a pretend award chill out. and she is an actress by virtue of the fact that she “acted” in that film/documentary and it was terrible so thatt makes her fair game. why dont u get all upset when snl or jay leno, fox news etc. make far more cruel remarks about our president?

  12. u cant go wrong with any of these movies they are all terrible films. and yes sarah palin deserves to be critized for that movie too.

  13. where the hell is dark knight rises
by god that film eats its own young

    • “where the hell is dark knight rises”

      – Agreed. The Dark Knight Rises makes Transformers look like Lawrence of Arabia.

      Dumbest. Dialogue. Ever.

I sunk down in the theater seat, certain that without someone like Tarantino at the helm, nuclear disaster was certain to be averted and thereby sparing the cast to torment me again in the future.

Adam Sandler? So what? He aims for the gutter, and achieves — how is that failure or even worthy of notice anymore?

The Dark Knight Rises cost a quarter-billion dollars, and is horrible.
