Ray Harryhausen DVDs Ray Harryhausen DVD Contest Winners!!

It’s contest giveaway time again here at Screen Rant!

I’m a big fan of sci-fi movies from the 1950′s so I’m happy to offer you the opportunity to win not one, but three Ray Harryhausen classics that have been newly remastered on DVD:

- Earth vs the Flying Saucers

- It Came From Beneath the Sea

- 20 Million Miles to Earth: 50th Anniversary Edition (Blu-Ray)

These new DVD releases include all-new audio commentary plus interviews with Ray Harryhausen. Each film has it’s own commentary and tons of bonus features.

When it comes to older movies I tend to be a purist, so be aware that these are in COLOR and not the original black and white. I do have less of a problem with older sci-fi films being colorized than Humphrey Bogart movies, though.

Three (3) Winners from Screen Rant will receive a Ray Harryhausen DVD Gift pack that includes the three titles above.

In case you’re so young that you don’t know who Harryhausen was – he was the guy movie studios went to when they needed fantasy and sci fi model animation in their movies. This was long before CGI or even “go-motion”: The models in these movies were animated painstakingly one single frame at a time.

If you’re not familiar with these classics, here are details about each movie:

Earth Vs the Flying Saucers (Widescreen) (1956) in stores 1/15

Dr. Russell Marvin heads up Operation Skyhook, which is tasked with sending rockets into the upper atmosphere to probe for future space flights. Unfortunately, all the rockets are somehow disappearing. While investigating this strange occurrence, Russell and his new assistant/wife Carol Marvin are abducted by a flying saucer, where the aliens demand to meet with certain people in order to negotiate. But it was a trick; the aliens only wanted to kill them. The invasion has begun and if Russell and Carol can’t find a way to get past their defenses and stop these creatures, it may be the end of the human race.

It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955) in stores 1/15

It Came From Beneath the Sea was the first collaboration between special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen and producer Charles H. Schneer. Directed by Robert Gordon (Tarzan and The Jungle Boy), the newly colorized film, depicting a giant octopus attacking San Francisco, stars Kenneth Tobey (The Thing From Another World), Faith Domergue (This Island Earth), Donald Curtis (Earth vs. The Flying Saucers) and Ian Keith (The Ten Commandments).

20 Million Miles To Earth (50th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray] (1957) in stores now

Special effects genius Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans) brings you one of his earliest groundbreaking films, now available for the first time in vibrant color! When an American spaceship crash-lands off the coast of Sicily, a rescue team discovers that the crew has brought back a gelatinous mass that soon hatches and evolves into a strange bi-ped creature which increases in size rapidly. Soon 20-feet tall, the creature rampages through Rome before being destroyed as it seeks refuge in the Colosseum.

HOW TO ENTER:

As mentioned above, there will not be just one, but three winners. All you have to do to enter is sign up for our Screen Rant Newsletter. If you’re a current subscriber and are receiving daily news updates you’re already entered! If you’re not yet a member of our community, just enter your email address below!

Enter Your Email Address:

(You’ll need to reply to the verification email once you sign up for security purposes.)

IMPORTANT: You need to be a VERIFIED subscriber to be entered. For your protection we use what’s called a double opt-in sign up method, which means when you sign up you’ll receive a confirmation email that you must reply to.

If you don’t reply to that confirmation email you’re NOT subscribed to the newsletter or entered in the contest. I only mention it because I’ve seen quite a few unverified signups in there, and they won’t count unless you reply and confirm that it was really you that signed up.

The contest ends at midnight February 3rd, 2008. Everyone who is a newsletter subscriber at that time (unless you’re related to me or write for Screen Rant) will have a chance to win via random drawing.
