JoBlo Horror releases a mashup trailer featuring Sylvester Stallone’s iconic Rambo character and Rob Zombie’s Firefly family characters. On September 20, the fifth Rambo film, Rambo: Last Blood, is scheduled to release, while a trailer for the third Firefly installment, 3 from Hell, recently premiered.

Based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel First Blood, the Rambo franchise premiered in 1972. Stallone plays John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran who uses survival skills upon returning to the United States. First Blood, the movie, inspired two sequels during the ‘80s, and Stallone reprised his character for the 2008 film Rambo. In recent months, Stallone has been promoting Rambo: Last Blood on social media. As for Zombie, the acclaimed heavy metal musician released his feature directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses, in 2003. The horror film introduced the Firefly family, a pack of killers who seek victims on Halloween. Zombie released the sequel, The Devil's Rejects, in 2003, and the third chapter, 3 From Hell, will feature the same cast: Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding/Cutter, Bill Moseley as Otis Driftwood, and Sheri Moon Zombie as Vera-Ellen "Baby" Firefly.

On YouTube, JoBlo Horror released a mashup video entitled “Rambo from Hell.” The video was produced by Mike Sprague and imagines what would happen if Rambo: Last Blood and 3 from Hell were the same movie. Early on, a wide landscape shot is accompanied by Lil Nas X’s 2019 country rap hit “Old Town Road,” which is followed by Stallone’s overly dramatic voiceover: “I’ve lived in a world of death.” This sets the tone for a slow motion shot of the Firefly family, who are unsurprisingly framed as the villains - the targets of one John Rambo. The faux trailer hits all the right beats, as Rambo preps for a violent confrontation, while the Firefly family remains stoic and menacing. As a whole, the pacing and editing transitions make “Rambo from Hell” feel like a real movie trailer, with Stallone’s narration being the grounding force while complementing the collective characters' best moments. In addition, Sprague incorporates full screen graphics; a nice touch as the trailer reaches its showdown conclusion. Check out “Rambo from Hell” below.

While long-time Rambo fans are surely familiar with the character’s persona and fighting techniques, some may not be familiar with the Firefly family. The aforementioned Moseley portrayed Chop Top in the 1986 sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and later portrayed Possum on HBO’s Carnivàle. Meanwhile, the 79-year-old Haig has an acting resume that dates back to 1960, with his most famous roles coming in Jack Hill blaxploitation films like Coffy and Foxy Brown. Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, portrayed Deborah Myers in her husband’s reboot films Halloween and Halloween II

Given that fan videos can occasionally miss the mark with pacing and transitions, “Rambo from Hell” is a nice surprise. The trailer organically incorporates the character bravado from the respective films, and reaches a conclusion that feels plausible. And while “Old Town Road” may not resonate with everybody, it’s undoubtedly a relevant 2019 musical selection for the Rambo: Last Blood/3 From Hell mashup.
