Just How Well Do You Know Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul?
Lightning rarely strikes twice, especially in television; not every Cheers leads to a Frasier. More often we see a Friends become a Joey. But doubts regarding a Breaking Bad spinoff were minimal, even considering the fact said spinoff was set to revolve around a character who had more or less served his purpose in the Bad-verse. But Vince Gilligan unsurprisingly pulled it off, proving that there was rich, untapped material in Saul Goodman’s origin story. The sleazy two-bit lawyer was a person before Breaking Bad, a character than ran as deep (if not deeper) than Walter White. As a result, Better Call Saul is a show that, at the very least, has been on par with Breaking Bad from the start.
Deciding which show is better is a fruitless endeavor, about as productive as comparing the Mona Lisa to The Last Supper. Both shows are excellent and should be forever celebrated for their excellence. They should be studied by TV fans for years to come, required viewing for anyone wanting to make television.
