Can You Identify These Comic Book Sidekicks By Their Costumes?
Our quiz series about the dressing habits of comic book characters is back with our third and final entry. We’ve already tested your knowledge of hero and villain duds, and now it’s the second string’s turn.
Sidekicks serve a variety of purposes; they appeal to a younger demographic of readers who wish they could suit up and fight crime with their heroes. In the ’50s, they helped creators sanitize content to avoid censorship. They can also provide a lighter counterpoint for more serious characters and serve as a reminder of the innocence and goodness that crimefighters are working to protect. And if all else fails, they serve as a quick target for supervillains to capture and/or murder to heighten drama.
More often than not, however, they’re just a smaller version of their boss and will one day replace them if/when they die in a major crossover event. And while some of their costumes are similar to their partners’, a lot of sidekicks have a style all their own. Just like before, we’ll show you 25 sidekicks with some of their distinguishing features removed, and your job is to name them. Good luck, and be sure to let us know how you did in the comments.
