Tarantino Says Mike Myers Is A Bastard

mike myers inglorious bastardsOkay, now that I’ve gotten my anger at The Love Guru off my chest I can get down to reporting some movie news.

Mike Myers has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards. By Mike Myers I mean the actor and comedian – not the Halloween film character, although that would be cool.

Myers is the latest actor to be recruited by Tarantino following Brad Pitt, Eli Roth (when I mention Roth I use the word “actor” loosely) and B.J. Novak, while Simon Pegg and Nastassja Kinski are still in negotiations to join the WWII flick.

Don’t worry, Myers will NOT be playing “Fat Bastard”. The voice of Shrek will portray General Ed Fenech; a British military commander.

I just have one question:

What is Tarnatino thinking ?

To be honest with you – I have no idea!

Myers’, Pegg’s and Novak’s casting would seem to indicate that the film is going to be a comedy of sorts, but that just doesn’t fit with Tarantino’s other films. While his work does skirt the line between serious and black comedy very successfully, his casting on this picture appears to be all over the place.

I do have faith in Tarantino – even if parts of Death Proof played like a trailer trash, Austin-set version of Sex and The City, but he does have me thrown with Inglorious Bastards.

We can now safely say that anything is now possible with regards to this film.

    I don't think Michael Myers ever went by "Mike," anyway. Not menacing enough.

    I'm looking forward to this movie, and I don't understand why people are so upset that Tarantino is making movies. Some people enjoy them. Just...don't go see them if you don't want to.

    I've seen Hostel 2 recently. You missed nothing special, Vic.

    Myer being a Brit commander just seems very odd to me, again. I mean the idea of Pegg playing a Nazi, which was just a suggestion on here by 790, now seems inspired compared to this.
    I can just hear that overdone 'English' upper class accent.
    Quite a number of comic actors are excellent straight actors - I just really doubt Myers will be one of them.

    I'd rather sit through all 3 Star Wars prequels back-to-back without a bathroom break than sit through ONE more Tarantino crapfest.

    Nobody likes Tarantino more than me - as for Roth - I thought that Hostel was ok- not great but it was gory - not scary.

    I want this movie to work - I really do.

    As for my comments - I do often use humor for comedic effect. The odd time... seriously I do!

    I think it would be really cool to see Myers play a small but important serious role...no funny faces, no parody, no smirks or exaggerated accent, lol.

    LOL, thanks for singling us out but our opinion of Roth's work is shared pretty much across the majority of movie websites.

    I actually gave the first Hostel film a pretty decent review, but no, I haven't seen the second one due to what I had read about it and opinions of other reviewers.

    Just as a quick note: it's really disheartening that every time Eli Roth's name gets mentioned on this site it's in some sort of depreciating way, typically some snide little remark. Maybe the above comment wasn't meant like that, but it certainly seemed like it to me. The man does not deserve any of the hard time he's given by people who hate torture porn. Did any of you even see Hostel 2? Judging by the box office I doubt it, and it's a shame because it's quite a good horror film. He's a good filmmaker who loves his craft and is a credit to the industry. I wish this site in particular would have less of an apparent vendetta against him, I like everything else I read here.

    Despite a brief stumble with Death Proof (and one that was perhaps made worse by it being packaged next to the hilarious Planet Terror), Tarantino has been associated with nothing but good work as far as I'm concerned. Granted, good becomes extremely relative to your appreciation of the genres he explores.

    I'm curious to see where he goes with this one. It's a hell of an interesting cast, it could be great if QT brings his typical level of talent to the script

    This is sounding like an interesting cast , the addition of Mike Myers has really got my attention. Myers has done ( some ) great comedy but he's also proven with movies like 54 that he can handle drama too.
    I have already forgiven QT for Jackie Brown and for Grindhouse . I'm ready for another great Tarantino flick; bring it on you Bastards :)

    See Niall, I am the complete opposite of you on Tarantino. I think ALL of his work has sucked. I can't think of ONE movie that I can actually say I enjoyed, NOT ONE. To each their own, I guess.

    One other thing, what in the world is the reason for directors casting Candians to play British parts, British actors to play American parts, etc? Here's a novel idea, cast a BRITISH actor to play a BRITISH part!!! WOW!
