if you really enjoy reading books your like this movie, it had a great plot just a needed a little more action. when i got down watching this movie i thought wow whens the last time you seen a movie were you didn't predict the end so everyone i say if you like good plots then watch this. and the plot holes will probley be filled in the next movie
  • Cody G.
Maybe its just that the standard of action movies have been lowered so much these couple years with directors trying to create all their movies around a teenage mindset (which is a huge mistake, transformers 1 & 2 are jsut awfull) which is annoying, and im a teenager, but i found push enjoyable for an action movie in our day and age. It does have alot of flaws and you can lose interest at times, but its an ok movie and if you like action movies you'll like it.

Wow, you found Knowing "riveting?" Really? Well, that's good, at least you enjoyed it. My friends and I spent the time watching it making fun of it.

We were at home watching it on rental of course, we won't talk in the theater like some a-holes do...
  • Audrey
Excellent plot! I'd like to see more intriguing movies like this one. Original, action packed, and hinting on truth. I found 'Knowing' more riveting to my surprise. 'Knowing' I didn't want to pause it to use the bathroom, it was that great. 'Push'has some brief, slow moments where you could almost lose interest. It was better than 99% of the movies I've seen in the last several years.
  • Ernest
Why so much hate for Push? It is a good movie that has combined several elements from other movies/tv shows etc. Most everything we watch is influenced by something else. Push was great, one of my top 3 movies that I have seen recently.

The odd feeling with Dakota Fanning's role is because she acts more like the protagonist's girlfriend or wife than a child. The Cassie character is the adult in the relationship compared to the childish way which both Nick and Kira acts.

I don't know if the director intended to invoke a sense of "The Professional" which matched an older man with a young girl who teaches the guy new things.

But it definitely gave me the same feeling.
  • John "Kahless" Taylor
I saw it this past Monday (yeah, I'm a glotton for punishment). I would have given it an extra .5, making it a 2.5 out of 5 for me. The action scenes were pretty good but that's about it. I wasn't too turned off by the sniffers, but that's probably because Vic warned us. My favorite power had to be the guy who could transmute matter.
  • Heroes#1
rofl a friend told me about this but didnt knew the name of the movie, so i did some google search.. I think this movie is such a rip-off from 'Heroes' and wants to go on with that success, even tho they got some 'semi' bigscreen actors, i still think this will be the greatest and first heroes-movie FAIL of the year...
  • Ken J
Even if you're right lily, Alex merely would have gotten lucky since he's never even seen the film. He would have a "solid point" if he was speaking with actual knowledge of the film and Vic's opinion on it.
  • Lily
I have to say that Alex has a solid point in saying that Vic shouldn't overthink the movie. I have seen it and enjoyed it. It could have had more action, but I still liked it overall.
  • rawpower05
I am so glad that I have $1.50 movie theatre. It allows me to see a disappointing movie at a cheap price. Thanks for the review or heads up.
  • Lt_Ryan
You were absolutely right with your review. I'd like to take it further and announce that this film SUCKS! Can we please stop comparing to Heroes which is one of my favorite shows? This movie is better compared to watching a silent film of a terd floating around a toilet bowl!! I want my 111 minutes back!! ARGH
  • Breddah Noomsbie
I agree Vic. I too was expecting this one to be a good "guilty pleasure" film, I feel they had a chance to make something we've all seen before fresh, but wussed out went the route of what's safe and makes them their money back.

On the upside Camilla Belle is effin' hot and I didn't have to pay to see this. Lol.

Thanks for the insight man, Lay-tor
  • So does that mean "bleeders" are the "taste" sense? Gross.

Seriously though, I've been watching Jumper on HBO over and over again. It's better than I remembered. Def room in there for a much improved sequel.

Push... well there's a way to do the ESPers as warriors concept and this just doesn't seem like it's the way to go about it. Hello Netflix!
  • John "Kahless" Taylor
That's one reason I try to keep my posts short, Vic. I'm no Longfellow by any means but I know you have a big job from your regular job. Thanks for all your effort.
  • CyanFox
LOLZ. It would seem easier to simply ignore Alex, but then it would rob everyone else of the reminder that this is a MOVIE REVIEW, not a MOVIE FORECAST (or something hehe).

Thanks for heads-up about the movie, Vic! I might watch it anyway (I'm stubborn that way), but at least I'm emotionally prepared about wasting my time and money before going to the movie house. :D
  • Oh, and let's add to that having to browser through 200+ porn/spam comments a day to make sure none of your comments are caught in the spam filter by accident.

I'd love to just hit the delete button every day on those, but I don't.

    Vic
  • OK... guys, I appreciate what you're saying - I really do. And I do my best around here but I'm starting to get annoyed.

Do you know how many comments we get here every day sitewide? Hundreds. I try to read EVERY comment in order to make sure the tone is civil and people aren't attacking each other - but with the volume sometimes I have to skim. Other webmasters let EVERYTHING through and don't moderate.

My point stands: You're defending a guy who rips my review and hasn't even SEEN the movie. So that's cool, then?

I work a full time job, I write for the site, I'm the editor for over half a dozen writers, and on the day that comment was posted Screen Rant was having technical issues that had the site offline for more than two hours (which is a VERY big deal). That continued with me trying to get the site fixed ALL day on Saturday on into midnight.

So while yes, you're right... Try to keep in mind I'm not Jesus Christ and I'm not perfect... so maybe you could cut ME as much as slack as you're cutting him, eh?

    Thanks,

    Vic

    Alex (in his original post):

    >>Oh and no I have not seen the movie yet<>Have you even SEEN the movie prior to ripping me on my review<<

Hey Vic, did you even READ his disclaimer prior to ripping a contributor's post?

I've seen you respond like this before; I think it's bad form. I wonder why you don't just laugh it off. You're bigger than that. This is not Screen Charm School. The reviews can be "off with the kid gloves" but the feedback has to be Miss Manners? Geez, Vic, you're effing Screen Rant! Why let a heckler or a critic get to you?
  • @Jon

Thanks, I *am* passionate about film, that's why I started this site and why I put so much work into it every day.

I enjoy visitors who can put forth their opinions intelligently, even if they disagree with mine and I look forward to your becoming a regular visitor. :-)

    Best,

    Vic

Vic, I will say that the sniffing power was sort of played over the top. Like, they really got into it and sniffed the things. But you can't just call the whole idea stupid. You look at some of the other powers and they are part of the five sense. You can push things (touch) and see things in the future (sight). While not being as literal as the sniffing, they are still connected. And if one sense can become something more, so can another. Also, the way you have it stated it makes it seem like that's what they are implying, that they can know the future with the object they are taking. So, if someone reads this and not having seen the movie, that could be the thing that prevents them from wanting to. So it's a big deal what you said.

Honestly, if anyone of those powers were stupid it's the shadows because they have nothing. Their only job is to be a shield against others with the powers. So what happens if the Shadows were the only kind of superhuman beings around? What do they do with that power? At least the rest of them could have a practical use in the real world.

I will say this. You do seem very passionate about the movies you review so that's a good thing. I mean, I don't visit this site often (no offense to anyone) but it does seem like you try to make your reviews enjoyable and fulfilling for the person reading it. And even if I disagree with a few things you said, I still enjoyed reading it. And I might visit a bit more often now.
  • @Jon

Whatever. The whole sniffing concept is still stupid IMHO.

    @Sylar's Hunger

Considering Alex wrote a 200+ word slam of my review WITHOUT HIS HAVING SEEN THE MOVIE and all I basically replied with was a short sentence saying just that, I think my reply was completely justified.

Good Lord, you'd think I said something about the guy's mother.

    Vic
  • Sylar's Hunger Continues
Vic, I've said it before--defensiveness does not become you. Your response to Alex shows that he read your commentary in full, but you didn't do him the same honor, as your question is answered and he is upfront with his disclaimer.

Anyway, why bust his chops, really I think you both (and I) agree on the main point: We took a risk that this would be "only" an action movie with some good special effects. Since you and I were hoping for more, we were dissapointed. If Alex (out of ignorance or wisdom) is only expecting some f/x action, he's the one out of us who will have a positive movie experience. Isn't that kind of smarter than both of us, considering we have a loooong list of crap-bomb hero flicks on our resumes?
  • Sylar's Hunger Continues
I didn't like the movie for the same reasons.

Did anyone else feel slightly ripped off because the title described something other than the action-oriented telekinesis in all the ads?

I was wondering what the flashback "10 years ago" and then the rest of the movie being "2 days from now." What did I miss?

Vic, you talk about the gaping plot that is not filled--first I thought, how could they make that such a central piece and abandon it. But the statement about it has to be the most crass trolling for another movie since Maggie Simpson asked, "Sequel?"
  • Mike Basil
I don't expect Push to be original in comparison to others in this genre. But I'd like to see Dakota Fanning as Cassie Holmes because she's such a remarkable young actress. Her performance as Allie Keys in the Taken miniseries convinces me that she can make a considerably good contribution to this film.
  • Jon
I don't know if this was said before but the sniffers took the toothbrush to keep track of him. Because, like dog sniffer in the police, they catch a scent and search of it. They did it to make it easier, and honestly, you just seem sort of dumb for not knowing something like that.

That was really my only problem with this review. I didn't like that short skirtedness of Dakota, and yes the wiping the memory thing doesn't make any sense. Unless of course the other one was only paying attention to Cassie's movements. . . ? I think everything that she saw was an extension of Cassie. But yeah, that could explain that.

It was an okay movie, better than Jumper due to the sheer fact that it tried to make a story and make sense out of it all. Whereas Jumper you get the set up and then you get some action and that's it. This was way better than Jumper and it is a good movie, I personally believe.
  • We here passed on this tonight.

The only fun parts are the action and there's so little of it :(
  • Kevin
I agree with Mr. Vic or actually I believe it was worse than what he mentioned. Mr. Vic seems like an open minded person and knows some people may actually like the movie, so he probably refrained from saying worse. But truthfully this movie had great actors but was put together in all the wrong ways. There were so many lame moments and it seemed like they used all their budget money towards the end. The main character never developed and remained stagnant, which is horrible for a movie of this caliber. I wanted more than my money back, I wanted my time, which is impossible to get back.
  • @Freak

Thanks, bud. You should poke around here and read some other reviews - maybe you'll agree and become a regular here. :-)

    Vic
  • Freak
    Hey Vic,
I wish I would have read this before I went to see it; you were spot on. Multiple times I whispered to my friends, "That girl needs some pants!" and we were often trying to fgure out what was going on. I normally love "super-ability" shows and movies, and I had high hopes for this one - it disappointed.
