He looked great as Punisher, too bad the film sucked. Sucks that there's really no way anyone will make another Punisher movie any time soon because he's a pretty good character...

If Lionsgate ever calls ME? And says "We don't seem to be able to do this right, can you write the next one for us?" I'd write a trilogy that would cap at 1000 for the bodycount mark.
I'd have a running narrative. I'd have Murdoch kick his ass at the end of one movie and start the next in one jail. I'd have claymore mines blow personnel carriers off the road. I'd have a flame-thrower wipe out a battalion of mafiosis. Liberal use of the M-60. Running down pimps in the van. Strangling drug dealers in a street-alley.
Hard to explain how Castle gets all his intel without showcasing his torture skills. It's sick; it's depraved, I know. But it's necessary. I'd make it quick.
"I shot holes in his legs until he told me everything."
"I put my Bowie to his eye and he told me everything."
"I lit the acytelene torch and he told me everything."
Those unfamiliar with Castle wonder where he gets his funds and his guns. Ummm...hello? Lot of it lying around when the Man clears out a room. But never shown in the movies.
Bottom-line: He chooses a target, grabs the weakest link, tortures it til he gets all he needs, then strategically executes the whole operation in extremely innovative ways in order to maximize the bodycount. Grief-stricken insanity mixed with high-octane adventure. That's how I'd go.
War Zone had a 97 bodycount, with 73 for Castle. Mine'd be 350 with 333 for Castle. And yes, it can be done. "I sent three squads after that maniac!"
'Member my claymores? Ka-Blooie! Finished off with the M-60? 75 dead. Took 3 minutes of screen time. It can be done. And you'll have your iconic character for the movies.
Gimme a ring, Lionsgate. D'be my bloody pleasure.
Peace.

Rifle rounds are more likely to result in very nasty wounds since they are traveling at high speeds, so they are almost always going to have an exit wound (which typically is larger and messier) while handgun rounds have been known to have a relatively hard to notice entrance wound with no exit wound and people have been shot without knowing about it until later since sometimes pain is blocked out by adrenaline.

I didn't know that.

I don't have (thankfully!!!) first hand experience, but I always though (from articles, interviews of people that actually fought in wars etc.) that bullets do much more serious damage compared to what we see on screen, and I think most modern military assault rifles guns can mutilate with great ease if someone is shot in the arms or legs.

Actually, depending on the type of round, caliber of round, and where they hit, bullet wounds CAN be much much cleaner in real life than in movies. Of course they can be uglier too, really depends on a lot of things.

Not as bad as some make it to be.

It seems that it was not in their intentions to deliver a "serious" Punisher film (like e.g. the "serious", and pretentious, Dark Knight), so I think it's not a case of a movie that fails to deliver what it sets out to do - this is the definition of a lame movie.

It's a Bad Movie (with capitals in both words), yeah, but a lame movie, it's not!

It seems like a corny homage to '80s action movies with bucketloads of excessive and fairly unrealistic gore. Yeah, I know gunshot wounds are much uglier in real life compared with what we see in normal actionfests, but in Punisher :War Zone the gore-level seemed to be intentionally raised to ludicrous points - like a video game.

Combined with the weird Batman Fornever-like purple and green neon lights in the set design (the cathedral looked very comic-bookish) and the whole simplistic, comic book-like mentality (in the derogatory use of the word) as well as Ray Stevenson's totally straight face no matter how ridiculous things happened, I think this is a "masterpiece" of modern 80's homage.

I'd love to write something better, but with English being a second language and my limited time here... This movie is great entertainment, as long as you know what you're in for, and you accept it for what it is and what it wants to be.

@Claude

Well I knew that people would disagree with me on this one - maybe I was just in the right mood that day. :-P

I've only seen the first Punisher once and it was many years ago, so I don't remember it.

I dont think there should any other Punisher attempts. We've done too much damage to the character already.

I beg to differ with your commentary, Vic. This was the crappiest 'superhero' movie made since..well.. since the last Punisher movie. Storyline was weak, dialogue was basic and cliche. It seemed the whole idea was just to sell gore and graphic violence. I was not sure whether to take Jigsaw and Looney Bin Jim seriously. Plots were never developed- like the Jamaican acrobats.

I guess most people that loved it never got a chance to watch the first Punisher movie-by Dolph Lundgren. Crucify me if you will but that still remains to me the best Punisher movie yet! Dolph was the best. This new fellow, no matter how stern he wanted to appear still looked comical: right from his 'Rome' days.

Let's face it, there's nothing quite unique about a vigilante, with a chip on his shoulder, toting a gun: we've seen that before right from the ol' Westerns down to Rambo. No biggie. But the first Punisher had a unique character portrayal that distanced him from all others: he had a rather nonchalant, devoid-of-feelings, almost sedated disposition. This was visible from his interaction with others. There was a clear psychosis. This was sorely missed in the last two Punishers- who were very passionate and Ramboesque. I preferred the Thespian drunk character with his poetic humour (which sharply contrasted Castle's lack of it) to Microchip.

Anybody who has watched both the first and last depictions would know that the latter borrowed heavily from the former. The introductory TV news report on an evasive mafia boss; the violent Punisher grand entrance; Castle's request that FBI Agent Nick's widow pull the trigger was analogous to the closing scenes in the first; there's another bald 'Louis Gossett Jr.' in this movie; the final stand-off is also in a storey building.

Let's face it: Golan Globus got it right the first time but for poor marketing. I still remember the opening and closing lines to that movie.'Come on, God. Answer me...where is justice?where is punishment?..Or have You already said to the world: here is justice, here is punishment.. here ..in me'.

This last movie focussed more on gore and profanity than a good script and memorable dialogue. I recommend Lundgren's Punisher.

@manowar, you are out of your mind, lol j/k

But seriously, in my opinion Jane was a HORRIBLE punisher. This movie was pretty bad in terms of directing and production but Ray Stevenson was right for the role, it's just too bad he did it for such a poorly made film.

I liked Thomas Jane alot more than Ray Stevenson as the Punisher. His movie was much better than this one, although i did hate Travolta in it.

again to make all things clear. punisher punisher has few of friends that helped him in gang war . they didnt physically hepled him but mentally by telling him the enemys weakspot. punisher is always go to the weakspot of the enemies even with superhuman people because he is just human and that is fair. frank will have plans and foverver will be, peace =)

like i said before frank castle wants to punish people who have killed his family, but not all of them are just plain human. thats why he needs a helper. a guide. i wish the second movie of punisher will give more meaning to people not just blood and gore. if we just put the thomas jane punisher and ray stevenson punisher together,(ray stevenson is still the punisher) maybe the movie will turn out 2 be great

ok yes punisher cannot win alone if he faces with superpowered but have you ever read punisher kills marvel universe when he kills all of them with help. if he has a sidekick replacing microchip like stuart clarke or other sidekick( i dont know their names yet) he has a chance to get the level of the superpowered people. there was a magazine that he beat the crap outta of rhino with help. dont you see frank is not stupid, if he was beaten once but he will never be beaten twice by the same enemy. "I MEAN NEVER IN THE COMICS", he uses his mind and strategy to beat his opponents with help needed
