Netflix and Marvel’s lineup of street-level superhero television is off to a promising start. Following well-received seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, Marvel TV is now in post-production on Iron Fist. That show was meant to be the last of their initially intended solo series leading up to The Defenders crossover. However, the second season of Daredevil bore unexpected fruit, with actor Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) quickly becoming a fan favorite iteration of The Punisher. After he faced off with ole’ hornhead in an ideological battle, demand was at all time high for more of the anti-hero. Marvel acquiesced by giving Frank Castle a spinoff series of his own.

The Punisher (a.k.a. Marvel’s The Punisher) doesn’t have a release date yet. It’s expected to arrive in 2017 though, following the release of Iron Fist season 1 – but before The Defenders launches. The series recently started filming too; so with set photos already hitting the web, we’ve gotten a small glimpse of what to expect when The Punisher lands on the streaming service.

Courtesy of Just Jared comes an all new batch of photos featuring a bearded Frank Castle in Brooklyn. One of the images shows him grabbing the hand of a younger man who has almost fallen from the roof of a building. A number of other images show the two sitting on the rooftop together, with Frank casually eating a sandwich. (No word yet on whether or not the sandwich will feature in the show, or if Bernthal was just on his lunch break.)

Punisher The Punisher Set Photos: Frank Lends a Helping Hand

Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from these recent photo drops has been Frank’s ragged appearance. It’s probably fair to assume that, since The Punisher’s origin was covered in Daredevil Season 2, most of the series will take place in the present. While the beard could be a means for the fugitive Frank to remain incognito, his dress and manner seem decidedly less punishing than when we last saw him. Does the season begin with a Frank Castle who has given up his vigilante ways? If so, what could it be that brings him back into the business?
