Filming is well underway for Marvel's The Punisher with Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) reprising the title role from his supporting role in season two of Marvel's Daredevil. One of the breakout characters of the new wave of shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bernthal's turn as the iconic vigilante anti-hero appears to be one of Netflix's hottest new investments in the MCU.

Many photos from the set of Netflix's Punisher spin-off have already surfaced online, some of which revealed a bearded Bernthal making his way to work. Other photos showed Bernthal as Frank Castle looking like he hit rock-bottom. Castle's bushy beard alone was a stark contrast from The Punisher's classic look, but it appears that Castle is also keeping the shaved head he sported at the beginning of Daredevil's second season - for now, anyway.

Just Jared has obtained a fresh batch of photos from The Punisher that show Bernthal's head and face in its full glory on the set. The shaved head and beard combination is a look that had yet to be seen from Bernthal, who was also recently spotted with the beard and a full head of hair while filming stunt scenes. It’s unclear what Castle is up to in these set photos, but it’s certainly a unique look for the typically clean-cut Punisher.

Previous set photos showed Frank disguised as a homeless man (or perhaps being genuinely homeless) as he stood on a sidewalk, swathed in a warm blanket while donning the beard and a cap. Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page in Daredevil, was also spotted in those same photos, and looks to play a major role in the new Punisher series.

The Punisher is only the latest Marvel comic to get an original or spin-off series from Netflix, which is also currently producing the first seasons of The Defenders and Iron Fist. Woll’s involvement in the series shows that Marvel and Netflix are more than willing to cross characters over between shows, which means you probably haven’t seen the last of The Punisher on Daredevil, either.

Bernthal’s turn as Frank Castle/The Punisher was certainly popular enough to warrant his own spin-off series, and despite concerns that the project may be be a little rushed, the 40-year-old actor provides such a compelling version of the character that his performance alone could carry the new series to success.

Daredevil season 1 & 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist season 1 arrives on March 17th, 2017. The Defenders and The Punisher arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2 and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
