public enemies trailer2 New Public Enemies Trailer Even Better Than The First

Public Enemies tells the story of “Robin Hood” bank robber, John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) who simultaneously became a hero to the recession laden American public while making himself public enemy number one. Eventually becoming the purveyor for the institution of the FBI by J. Edgar Hoover and it’s top agent, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale).

And we have the second trailer for the up and coming Johnny Depp film for you right here.

The initial trailer for Public Enemies was sort of hit or miss, as it genuinely showed that the film had promise, but the video look of the trailer was problematic for some.  The video look in the first trailer is no longer an issue in the second and I think it also does more to tell the main gist of the story: To have the FBI capture John Dillinger and make him pay in a way that will frighten anyone with the hopes of emulating him.

I guess the marketability of the film actually comes down to the fact the story itself is really incredible and the cast is beyond all star (Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Billy Crudup, & Channing Tatum).

In all honesty, I geniunely liked the first trailer and the more peeks I get of Public Enemies the more excited I am to see it.  The film looks like an awesome portrayal of the golden age of crime in America, which is never boring.  I just hope Michael Mann upholds the integrity of the truth of John Dillinger’s life while still selling a potential blockbuster like this to the public.

Public Enemies opens July 1, 2009.

  1. I liked the first trailer and I like this one too, I’ll definitely be going to see this movie within it’s first week or release.

  2. Is it just me or does the style of the photography remind anyone of an amature of student film?
It’s not a bad thing, but the camera movements and exposure have this kind of unpolished quality…

  3. I’m really looking forward to this…I liked Heat and Collateral. Always been a fan of Depp since his Edward Scissorhand days.

  4. @ Xigbar, i would like to say that’s Michael Mann’s style of photography now. He used it extensively in Miami Vice and it seems he’s using it extensively in Public Enemies. Personally i kinda like the style, it’s gritty and real, really bring you into the action. This movie looks awesome, i’ll be there.

  5. Ok, i’ve seen Channing Tatum’s name relatively high on the cast list on the imdb site for the movie and you decided to include his name when you mentioned 5 of the actors involved in the movie. But unless his role has him wearing a lot of makeup making him unnoticeable, I don’t think we’ve seen him at all in either of the first two trailers. I know he’s playing Pretty Boy Floyd according to imdb, does anyone know if his role is actually small or if it’s just coincidental that he hasn’t been included in the trailers? Cause I thought he was having a significant role in this film and I think it would be a great measure if his acting abilities as of late, seeing as he’ll be alongside Bale, Depp, and Crudup.

  6. Great. I hope we can get a new trailer every month until July 1. I can’t wait for the movie Johnny has always been a favorite of mine. Just by seeing the trailers the acting looks awesome. I hope this will finally be the year Johnny gets an Oscar. I know he says his award is when someone comes up and says they loved him as Capt.Jack ,Edward Scissorhands etc. But we his fans think he deserves to win and we want to see it happen. The movie will be in the top 5 this summer. I hope. It is number one for me. Thanks for posting the trailer.

  7. oscar material for depp? I think he has played more special roles than this, I guess

anyway, i LOVED this trailer, got me all excited!

  8. I think this this is going to be a really good movie, but I have to agree that if he has not gotten an oscar yet I dont think this is going to do it

  9. @ Xigbar

Since Collateral, Mann has been using Digital Cameras (instead of the traditional film camera) for his films. Which is why they have that clear look.

    Can’t wait!

  11. Dammit! I love Johnny Depp. I already know the real life story of Dillenger so I know how he’s “finally brought to justice”. I’m going to spend the entire movie waiting for the end. Did they have to make Dillenger so cool. I hate when root for the villain.

That trailer’s a grabber. I don’t usually watch crime movies. I know we’re not talking Good Fellas or Casino here neither of which I can watch. Wait! I just grabbed a clue! I hate real life crime movies. Real life sucks. And it really sucks that this movie looks so good. Thanks a lot Vic!! ;)
