Over the years, Psych has proven itself capable of being smart, funny, and romantic, with the occasional jaw-dropping plot twist. This episode manages to have each of these things, though nothing is as as well-crafted as the plot twist at the end.

In a way, "Deez Nups" is a visual tribute to how far the show has come since the pilot. Back at the beginning, Carlton (Tim Omundson) was newly divorced with a chip on his shoulder the size of Canada and an anger problem to boot. The anger is still there, but there's also a grudging friendship - or at the very least, respect - that's grown between him and Shawn (James Roday). The addition of Marlowe (Kirsty Swanson) has allowed viewers the chance to see a softer side that at one time seemed nearly impossible.

One of the more interesting threads in this episode is the story behind Carlton's best man. Carlton swears that he can't have a bachelor party without his best friend and best man, so Shawn and Gus (Dule Hill) kidnap Lassie and bring Stumpy (Pete Gardner) to him. They party is on a bus with a stripper pole and the boys also drag Woody (Kurt Fuller) along for the ride, while Henry (Corbin Bernsen) is the driver.

Turns out, however, that the reason Lassie didn't want a party is that he doesn't think he's got any close friends and Stumpy is just a guy willing to play the part of Lassie's BFF for the free money and drinks. Bromance is overrated, says Lassie after Shawn and Gus ferret out the truth; though the irony is he can't see just how close he's gotten to the rest of the team over the years.

Meanwhile, on the girls' side of the shower there's not a single dull moment. Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) is back and in an effort to fit in with the girls, she does a few shots, only to discover that the residual hangover is not all it's cracked up to be. Jules (Maggie Lawson), on the other hand, gets sober as soon as she realizes that their stripper is co-worker Buzz McNab (Sage Brocklebank), who is saving up for a new condo by doing strip teases on the side. And in the midst of all the hard partying courtesy of Big Wendy (Cocoa Brown), the bride goes missing.

Enter the case side of the story, which is something akin to what one might expect if National Lampoon ever decided to tackle The Godfather. Herb Pollock (Steve Rosen) is on the run from mob boss Max Rizzo (Mike Starr) with enough evidence to put the man away. Lassie and Shawn bump into Pollock at the casino resort where the party has moved and Marlowe is kidnapped by Rizzo for leverage. Rosen and Omundson are flawless together as cop and bumbling witness, bantering back and forth, so it only seems fitting that Rosen's the one to marry Lassie and Marlowe when their JP goes AWOL.

The wedding is a mash-up of humor and tenderness, with a random mob firefight that ends with Buzz inadvertently mooning the wedding party just to keep things interesting. Bedecked in a pure white tux, Carlton waxes poetic about finding "something stronger to believe in than the NRA code of ethics," and when asked the final question, Marlowe, in her blood-red dress, answers, "You bet your ass I do." Gus catches the bouquet.

Then, just when you think it's safe to smile and sigh at all of the love that's in the air, the plot twists, slipping a knife in the ribs of fans who've been rooting for Shawn and Juliet for the past seven years. Maybe it's the adrenaline from the wedding firefight or a lingering result of the alcohol, but Jules begins putting together the pieces from the case and things are not adding up. From the beginning she has been the one who never doubted Shawn's "psychic" abilities, and despite how close they've become, he's never bothered to correct her.

True to his Spencer DNA, this comes back to bite him hard as Juliet awakens to the fact that Shawn's "visions" can be explained by something other than a sixth sense. Their history literally flashes before his eyes, but rather than compound the lie, he decides to come clean. "I'm good at what I do," he tells her, pleading with her to understand why he's kept her in the dark about this, "and what I do is good." Whether this newest wrinkle between the two of them will end badly, however, is yet to be seen.
