Psych: The Movie now has a release date, as fans of the USA Network’s detective comedy-drama series will be pleased to learn. This made-for-TV film will bring the show back to screens after three years off the air. The Psych: The Movie trailer - which was full of hilariously outlandish claims - hit the 'Net back in August.

Confirmed cast members for Psych: The Movie include James Roday, Dulé Hill, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen and Tim Omundson, alongside special guest stars Zachary Levi, Kurt Fuller, Jazmyn Simon, Ralph Macchio, Charlotte Flair and Jimmi Simpson. The show’s creator Steve Franks is also involved with this revival: he wrote the script with Roday. The reunion film promises to be a fun throwback for fans of the series, which originally ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2014.

Fans already knew that Psych: The Movie was headed for a holiday season launch, and now - thanks to an official announcement from New York Comic Con - they have an exact date to mark in their diaries. Psych: The Movie will premiere on the USA Network on December 7, 2017. An official press release followed the announcement, featuring this plot summary:

“Fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster open up their new office in San Francisco, appropriately (though perhaps awkwardly) named psychphrancisco, and are back in business solving a case after a mystery assailant targets one of their own. A comedic thrill ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable PSYCH team pursues the bad guys, justice …and food!”

Certainly, this sounds like a lot of fun. It’s good to know that Psych isn’t undergoing a gritty reboot of any sort for its return to TV. Rather, Psych: The Movie will offer the same old “comedic thrill ride”, albeit in a new location. Also, adding another layer of fan service to proceedings, it’s been confirmed that John Cena will make an appearance in the film.

WWE star Cena will make reprise his role as Ewan O’Hara, the brother of Maggie Lawson’s Juliet, in Psych: The Movie. It remains to be seen what the main driving force of the plot will be, but it has been confirmed that Levi is playing the main villain. The Chuck alum will portray Thin White Duke, who will target someone very close to James Roday’s Shawn Spencer. It should be interesting to see Levi and Roday’s comedic sensibilities clashing on screen.
