‘Prometheus’ International Trailer: Same Footage, Fewer Words

While Ridley Scott’s Alien spin-off film Prometheus remains (somewhat) shrouded in mystery, anticipation for the movie has increased with every little bit of information released about it.

One of the more clever things about the first Prometheus trailer was the winking homage to the original Alien trailer, in the form of the film’s title being revealed piece-by-piece as the montage of footage plays, with a tagline bookending the sequence of disturbing imagery. Today we have an international trailer for Prometheus to share – but don’t get too excited. It’s the exact same footage as the first trailer, without the added joy of the Alien textual homage.

In Prometheus, a cast that consists of Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Wilson, Guy Pearce, Idres Elba, Logan Marshall-Green (Devil) and Swedish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace play explorers sent into deep space on the spaceship Prometheus, to investigate an extraterrestrial culture that may hold the clue to mankind’s origins on Earth. Of course the expedition goes horribly wrong, with the explorers likely poking their noses where they do not belong (as hinted by the mythological reference of the title).

Check out a good mission gone bad in the Prometheus international trailer:

It’s disappointing that this international trailer offers nothing new – and on top of that, robs us of a cool Easter egg. However, Scott and Co. have been playing this one close to the vest all along, avoiding such questions like what the movie is specifically about (“it’s about everything” claims the director), and how it will (or will not) tie to the Alien xenomorphs we’re all familiar with.

While being kept at arm’s length is frustrating in this day and age where movie fans can spoil a film for themselves in the span of a Google search, it’s also refreshing to think that a movie just may make it into theaters with a few surprises still intact.

Prometheus hits 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on June 8, 2012.

  1. Easily my most anticipated film of the year.

  2. Still waiting to see what the Aliens look like.

    • Scroll to the top of this page. and look to the right side of the screen grab.

  3. That. Is. A. Trailer.

Cant wait for this, looks awesome

  4. Awesome trailer – too bad they couldn’t a few new tidbits. Just two seconds here and there… ;)
Can’t wait for it to come out. And I agree with you, Kofi. It IS refreshing to be surprised by the actual movie if they can keep this up until June.

  5. Prometheus looks amazing, I hope this will scare the crap of everyone just like Alien.

  6. Out of Curiosity, does anyone know what is that sharp thing at the end of the trailer, when the camera is really fuzzy it’s like a claw or something. I don’t know what it is, but it appears really fast between 0:58-0:59. Tried stopping it but couldn’t get anything. Don’t know if this has any relevence to the movie. Anyways one my most anticapted movies for the summer!

  7. I believe the main premise of the movie is the discovery of who created Mankind on Earth. Prometheus in Greek Mythology is a titan and he is a champion of Mankind. Hmmmm?
