[UPDATE: Replaced the teaser with the full (and AMAZING) IMAX trailer.]

20th Century Fox’s drip, drip, dropping of footage from Prometheus may be tedious to endure, but it’s proven pretty effective for generating lots of buzz around filmmaker Ridley Scott’s sci-fi flick. The studio has clearly recognized that, in this day and age, trailers for highly-anticipated film projects (like this) are events unto themselves – and have been (shrewdly?) exploiting fan interest in learning more about Scott’s return to the Alien universe.

Following the premiere of a trailer preview clip earlier this week, we now have the full-length IMAX trailer for Prometheus. Similar to the teaser trailer, the IMAX preview mixes shrieking flashes of violence and disturbing events with darkly sumptuous visuals of a gloomy extraterrestrial world – along with a solid outline of the plot that still avoids revealing all of the film’s secrets.

Prometheus stars such well-established thespians as Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and Logan Marshall-Green (Devil) as futuristic astronauts who undertake “a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe,” in pursuit of clues which could explain humanity’s origins on Earth. Events thereafter take a turn for the worse when those space explorers discover things they were never meant to know (as foreshadowed by the film’s mythological title) and must fight to not only keep themselves alive, but to preserve the continued existence of humankind.

Get a better look at those troubling events in the full Prometheus IMAX trailer:

While there’s a good chunk of imagery on display here that directly recalls Alien (such as Rapace in her underwear, battling an unknown threat aboard the eponymous ship), the cutting-edge CGI effects mixed with H.R. Giger-style practical sets – and the prominent mythological narrative themes teased here not only look and sound quite unique, but also pretty fantastic based solely on their own merits.

Similarly, there are some cool “money shots” that hint at the film’s connection to Alien - the most tantalizing of which is arguably the Space Jockey suit being mechanically peeled off its enigmatic (alien?) host. It’s no spoiler to say that Prometheus (in part) reveals the backstory of that creature – that’s been confirmed for a while now - though what exactly the “new monsters” glimpsed all too briefly here are, that remains a secret (for now).

Overall, Prometheus continues to look like a fantastic brew of sci-fi existential dread and visceral horror that could indeed (as primary screenwriter Damon Lindelof has put it) “scare the living sh** out of you.” It won’t be the biggest blockbuster of the summer, no doubt, but it certainly has the potential to be one of the best.

Look for Prometheus to open in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters around the U.S. on June 8th, 2012.

  1. woow, a new trailer! mindblowing! can´t wait for this.

  2. i think fassbender could be an evil cyborg, because in alien there was one(not in aliens).

    • ehhm…i mean android!

      • I believe he prefers the term “artificial person.”

  3. The feature trailer has so much new footage I can’t believe it. Way more than the Imax trailer. Screenrant hasn’t covered it as yet so if you haven’t come across it here’s the link for it on Trailer addict

    http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/prometheus/feature-trailer

    It looks A M A Z I N G !

    • Ah, I see they’ve updated it. :)

  4. I just saw viral footage of Weyland enterprises promoting artificial intellingence androids. It was pretty cool.

  5. DOES ANYBODY ELSE NOTICE Michael Fassbender looking and acting a whole lot like BISHOP???

    • I think he’s an android. Like a first generation version.

    • yes, and he is an android, but i haven´t noticed that he act like bishop(i mean, there´s not so many footage of him to see it exactly).

  6. If this movie is a HIT James Cameron will direct the sequel ‘PROMETHEI’ (plural)

    • PROMETHEUSESES

  7. THIS MOVIE COULD ALSO TAKE PLACE IN THE 57 YEARS BETWEEN ALIEN AND ALIENS

    • It can’t it’s the prequel to Alien, LOL!

  8. This looks absolutely amazing. Avengers is number 3 on my most anticipated list.

  9. I STILL cannot get over how much Green looks like Tom Hardy. It’s disgusting.

    • i kept thinking that guy looked like tom hardy! what is his name again?

      • Logan Marshall Green. His only recent credit is that ‘Devil’ movie, as stated above. He really does look exactly like him, although i think it’s him that is getting like eaten by the pathogen in the trailer so…GOOD.

  10. i’ll say it again, this is great!

  11. i was never a huge fan of anything aliens, but this looks promising.

    • really? alien and aliens are really good. havent seen 3 or 4. AVP was crappish.

  12. Imo AVP films are the same standards as Alien 3 & 4 but i enjoyed them little better. Alien & Aliens were indeed the best films.

    • I think they made a huge mistake combining the Alien and Predator universes together, even though they did drop big hints in Predator 2.

Sadly the actual encounter we got to see of Alien and Predator was not that impressive and should have been left to everyone’s imagination.

But getting back to Prometheus, looks very good indeed, it gives the Alien universe something it really needed, a few new ideas, something that most of the sequels were lacking in although Alien’s was a great sequel to the original, but then they just tried to rehash the same old formula in Alien 3, Alien Resurrection was just sad because there really was no one to sympathise with. Even Ripley looked tired and bored with the whole thing. The crew of the Betty were mostly idiots and deserved their fate, especially the captain. Yes, walk right into the trap, see the shiny guns, follow the trail and then realise it’s a trap way too friggin late you dumb ass.

So thank you Ridley Scott for giving us something new and focusing on one of the other iconic aliens from Alien, that is not the Alien, but a jockey. Worth waiting for I think.

      • @ Pedro

I never read the AVP comics but thought the first AVP film was pretty good. It’s sequel wasn’t despite the action, etc. Id imagine people could be dissapointed even if they went by the comics aswell. Somthing with Predators which i felt was like AVP in a way itself. Human free’s captive predator in return for ride back to earth instead of a token. 3 Predators doin the killing, only it’s predator vs. predator. Not to mention how they were makin it feel like a Alien film just as in AVP after they met w/Noland. Anymore referances from the original, it would be a remake almost. Thats just things ive noticed throughout the film.

Imo, they should of stopped with Aliens unless Ridley Scott would helm a exciting conclusion. I can’t wait for Prometheus but at the sametime prefer things to be left a mystery like in Alien. Thats one of things that helped keep that film a classic over the years imo.

  13. The trailer was impressive in IMAX 3D, it opened for JC.

  14. Just watched the Alien and Prometheus trailer back to back…I want Prometheus to be as intense as Alien. :)

  15. Mass Effect/ Dead Space lol. But seriously this looks interesting.

  16. Wow, that was one intense trailer. I didn’t think I could have become even more excited about this. But I think I just did!

    Why isn’t it June yet?!

    Briefgold”

  17. so what film will be bigger between Prometheus & TDKR?

    • i think batman, but prom. will have good word-to-mouth and how the end-product will look at least.

  18. Now Ridley Scott needs to remake Alien so it looks as cool as Prometheus. Only problem with prequel is the technology looks so much better in the prequel. Would love to see Alien remade, line for line like the original.

  19. Movie of the Year, along with Avengers. Between the 2, they will sweep the Academy Awards!

  20. Looks sick!!

  21. alien cost me alot of sleep, i first saw it when i was 13.. so original/// aliens was simply wow.. gettin my tickets now for imax..!!
