‘Prometheus’ – ‘Alien’ Connection Explained

1 year ago by Ben Kendrick

ridley scott prometheus rating 3d effects Prometheus Alien Connection Explained

If you don’t like our take, Scott’s current view paints a less-connected version of the events that, frankly, creates more questions than concrete answers – once again blurring the lines between the two properties and possibly setting up the current storyline for a sequel (more on that later). It’s important to keep in mind that while Scott is the director of Prometheus, if you ask writer Damon Lindelof (who was responsible for a significant re-write on the film), you might get a different answer.

Essentially, Scott asserts that the same developments could occur independent of the Prometheus storyline:

Scott: For all intents and purposes this is very loosely a prequel, very, and then you say “But how did that ship evolve into the first Alien?” Then I would say “Actually he’s one of the group that had gone off and his cargo had gotten out of control,” because he was heading somewhere else and it got out of control and actually he had died in the process and that would be the story there. That ship happened to be a brother to the ship that you see that comes out of the ground at the end. They are roughly of the same period give or take a couple hundred years, right?

Other than that, there’s no real link except it explains I think who may have had these capabilities, which are dreadful weapons way beyond anything we could possibly conceive, bacteriological drums of shit that you can drop on a planet and the planet… Do you know anything about bacteria? If you take a teaspoon and drop it in the biggest reservoir in London, which also scares the shit out of me, and amazes me that there are not huge guards around it… That’s the way to do it. You don’t do 9/11, you just get a teaspoon of bacteria, drop it in, and eight days later the water is clean and then suddenly on the eighth day the water goes dense and cloudy, but by then it’s been sent to every home and several million people have drunk it, you’ve got bubonic. It’s that simple.

That’s how scary it is, so these evolutions of these guys who have watched developing DNA, it’s like “How can DNA change that quickly, sitting in front of me on a table…” That’s because your mind doesn’t allow you to accept that that may be feasible, that’s the deal. In the same way that we have been here three billion years, we know we’ve been… The Gulf of Mexico they believe is a huge asteroid. That was an impact zone, you know that? Yeah, for that big a thing to actually hit our globe, it would have had to adjust the spin, the axis. That probably created the first massive cataclysmic thing which took away all of the dinosaurs, so that after that you’re left with water, that’s why the Grand Canyon was a sea and it is now a dry valley.

At the end of the film, we see Shaw and David successfully escape LV-223 in another Engineer ship (which David learned to pilot) and head off in the direction of the Engineer home planet – since Shaw is still seeking answers to the questions of creation: namely who created the Engineers and why did the Engineers create human kind?

Prometheus Movie Spoilers Prometheus Alien Connection Explained

While he remained tight-lipped on certain subjects, Scott was willing to entertain some questions about the future of the Prometheus storyline such as: “How far have you thought? Or have you talked to Damon about where the possibility of a sequel will go? Have you already opened those doors in terms of you already know where these answers are and it’s just a matter of making it or are you sort of like ‘We will think about that a little bit assuming the movie is a hit. Let’s talk later.’”

Scott: It’s a bit of each. You do a bit of each and I’ve opened the doors. I know where it’s going. I know that to keep him alive is essential and to keep her alive is essential and to go where they came from, not where I came from, is essential. That’s a pretty open door and then rather than going to that, I don’t see landing in a place that looks like paradise, that’s not how it’s going to be. There is a plan, yeah.

Anyone who is entranced with the Prometheus story, regardless of its connections to Alien, will also be happy to know that the director is planning to be directly involved – should a sequel get off the ground.

Scott: I develop everything. I do. I learned that a long time ago. It’s never going to land on your desk, you have to come up with what you want to do with the story and I think sometimes it can take two or three years.

Prometheus Ship1 Prometheus Alien Connection Explained

While it’s tempting to dissect all of the overlapping story beats between Prometheus and Alien or speculate on where the narrative might go – remember, at the heart of the Prometheus story (which grapples with enormous ideas about the horrors and wonders of creation) is a much bigger question worth debating, namely: “Why are we here?”

Like any quality piece of entertainment, a lot of this is subjective and there are multiple ways of interpreting the connections between Prometheus and Alien, so feel to (respectfully) share your interpretation with fellow moviegoers in the comment section below.

    Hello all:
    I think I get it…
This is an elaborate training video, albeit somewhat long, on what NOT to do when the human race is capable of space exploration of different worlds. The pictogram in the caves are an explanation to primitive human races that there is danger from the stars. Particularly from that star system. All other areas of specialty can glean their specific fields of study and lessons learned.

I just want to point out some observations I made.

    1) In Aliens” the 2nd movie Ripley tells Burke she read the log, and it said Burke told the colonist on LV-426 to investigate the space ship on
6-12-79. So I presume he’s talking about June the 6th in the year 2079.
So Prometheus happened only 14 years after that. I don’t know where people get the year 2122 from when it’s stated in the movie. Unless she means 2179. That would mean Prometheus was 18 years after the first Alien movie.
    2) The terra forming installation on LV-426 was said to cost millions of dollars according to Burke. The Prometheus expedition was said to cost a trillion dollars. I forget who said it, but I know someone did.
3)In the Alien’s movies the crew doesn’t awake sick like they do in Prometheus.
4}Weland’s daughter did know everything about the mission because she wasn’t sure if she was going. Weland said “I didn’t think you were going to come”. So David was not told to tell her everything. That’s why he disconnected the video/audio feed when he entered the room where you pilot the ship from. That’s also why the automated operating chamber was for only males. It was for Weland incase something went wrong. They said there were only five, or six of them ever made.
    5) If you notice when the engineer’s holographs run through David it effects him. You see it in his reaction as he almost smiles as if something was revealed to him. You also see his hair gets blown in the direction the hologram is running. David is also able to hold the hologram of the Earth in his hands. Does he learn something when he comes into contact with the holograms? Also, where did David get
the ladder from to open the first door? I didn’t see anyone carrying it.
    6) The engineers never speak. The pilot even uses a flute to make sound to start up the hologram of the star systems. We don’t know if he understood David, as he seems just as interested in what Roth had to say. “I hope I got her name right”. Sorry, senior moment. lol
7)The engineer in the beginning of the Prometheus seems to be wearing the same diaper they crew wears in Alien, and Prometheus when they first wake up.
8)Why didn’t the crew meet each other before they boarded and went to sleep. Remember when one scientist tries to introduce himself. Who go on a mission with a bunch of strangers?
9)The large octopus that grabbed the engineer at the end may be the one that implants a queen, as the way it’s jaw came out of it’s mouth when it burst out of the engineer was the same way the jaw of the queen operated in Aliens when Ripley runs into her with Nute.
    10) What the hell was the reason for the skull formation on the top of pyramid above the spaceship ? Alien vs Predator was based on the discovery of a pyramid. Right?
    11) Did Roth put David’s head back on so he could fly the ship, and will he really take her wear she wants to go.
    12) Why would David have put Roth’s cross in his utility belt? How did she know he had it with him? Seems it was important to both of them.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing if these questions are answered in the sequel. This, like many super hero’s movies the last couple of years are just setups to make the real movie. If they don’t answer at least some of the observations in the next movie then I’ll say this movie sucked. Otherwise, I can’t wait for the sequel.

As to my list above include I should know that Roth is really named Shaw.
I totally “spaced” out on that one. lol
Get it? Spaced…. as in outer space.
Well I thought it was funny!

Ok, I’m back to tell you Prometheus must be throwing out what happened in the other Alien movies. Why?
    Because of Mr. Weland.

    1) He’s played by actor Lance Henriksen who was born in 1940.
His age when he played Bishop the synthetic in Aliens would make him 46 at the time of the movie.
    2) In Aliens 3 he shows up at the end of the movie as Mr. Weland to convince Ripley not to kill herself, and the queen inside her. That was filmed in 1992 making him 52 years old. I’m thinking they would want an actor who was around the age of the character he is playing. He must also be a key player at Weland-Yutani corp. if he goes to stop Ripley as himself as they point out he personally comes to the prison planet to stop Ripley.
There is a chance he is another synthetic though to fool Ripley, but it supposes she doesn’t know what he looks like since she never met him. Even if it is a synthetic he would have to look the same age as Mr. Weland in case she saw a picture of him. She never says though that she knows who he is when she sees him.
So even if you take the train of thought to Prometheus in 2093, that would make him 153 years old at that time. Could people live that long in 2093? I’d say very possible.
    3) Now his daughter appears to be 35-40 max. “sorry I didn’t look up Charlize Theron’s exact age, my bad”. So if she is say 40 years old she must have been born when he was around 113. Possible? Still yes. Especially with in vitro fertilization.
4)So, he would be probably 153 years old in Prometheus?
Wrong! If you watch Alien vs Predator where he is already sick and doesn’t have long to live, he gets killed by one of the predators in 2004. Even if he some how escapes death after being stabbed clean through, he would have died in the subsequent blast the predator sets off in the pyramid complex.
5)Conclusion; We can’t use any Alien vs Predator movie to follow the same story line. At most he’s 153 years old in Prometheus if you follow the Aliens, and Aliens 3 movies.
If we use Alien as a stand alone movie they give no clue I can find as to his age, or if a son took over the company because Mr. Weland died. That would explain why Guy Pierce is made up to look like Weland in Prometheus as an old man. They can show him as a young man in the sequel during flash backs, and as Mr. Weland’s son. Also I hope you caught his comment that he states “David” is the closet thing he’ll ever have as far as a “son” goes, and then they show his daughter who doesn’t look to happy.
So, Again I’m still all in for the answers in the sequel, I hope!

Actually the Weland you talk about who arrived on the prison planet was in fact another Robot, as Ripley pointed out herself.

Based on what? They never give any dates in Alien. I’m not trying to be a jerk. I just want to make sure while we wait for the sequel that we know for sure. The Prometheus flight took 2 years, 4 months, 18 days, 36 hours, and 15 minutes. Vickers also asked David if anyone died during their stay in stasis, which would suggest it was not something that was considered totally safe at the time. Weland was also said to have spent a trillion dollars for the flight.
In Alien the crew work up with no side effects, and no fear that someone might have died. They only talk about money in the millions, and the flight I believe didn’t take as long. They say if they take their chances and leave they can be in the shipping lanes in as little as 10 weeks.
They also hid the fact that there was an android on the ship. They even had him go into stasis just like the rest of the crew, and the crew freaked out when they found out he was an android. So the whole time they were mining they didn’t know he was an android.
If the warning in Alien came from LV-223 then that would mean they picked up the warning Shaw left broadcasting, but in Alien they found a transmission from LV-426.
Seriously, I’m not trying to be difficult. I’m just having fun trying to figure out the possibilities. BTW, in case you think some kid who’s only watched the latest alien vs predator movies I’m not.
I’m 51 years old, and saw the original Alien when I was in high school. I’ve been a fan of the movies ever since Alien came out in 1979, and I’m just glad they might finally tell us who that space jokey was. I’ve only been waiting for 34 years. I know, I need to get a life.

Prometheus is a movie set in the same ‘universe’ that Ridley Scott created for Alien , I don’t think he gave a thought to the other movies, made by other directors, why would he?

The engineers must have visited the earth after creating life. Could have been millions of years later, depending on how long it took us to evolve from the engineers DNA. The cave drawings, which they said were from different cultures over a millennium. So the engineers pictured as the larger beings pointing to the star cluster must have had contact with humans. Humans drew what they were shown. Now maybe they were showing that place as a warning which would make no sense since we couldn’t go there at that time. So maybe something else was happening on that planet/moon at that time. They also could be warning us and hoping the warning got passed down through generations. That would seem to imply they wouldn’t, or couldn’t return to earth in the future. Did they have some reason to think they all were going to die. I would still like to know why the engineers would return to earth and show us the planet/moon where our destruction was waiting. If they never showed us we would never have gone there, unless we stumbled upon it once we could make deep space travel possible. I’m not complaining. It’s just the possibilities are endless if they are answered in the sequel. I also still want to know where David got that ladder from in order to reach the mechanism that opened the door.

Due to all the religious refences in the movie, what if:
What if, there are no religions,
what if, mankind were made by Aliens
What if, aliens have touchedown on earth through the years, which would explain why every religion look to the skies(heavens) for their return
What if they havent been back for 2000 years plus or minus 13, because they left one of their own behind to guide us, and humans killed him, so they gave up on us and havent returned, or decided to destroy us (mankind)as this movie implicated.
What if during the opening scene, in the movie where the space jockey disentegrates and all the black dust or ash that appears to fly off of him are bugs and they fly around biting neanderthal humans transferring alien DNA to humans beginning the evolutionary process.

    What if

I’m also a long time Alien fan, however I only watched Prometheus for the second time last night. I’m going to be honest and say the film didn’t do it for me on the first watch, but after last night I keep thinking about it and really enjoyed it the 2nd time (now ordered it on blue-ray).
I need to go over all the films again now!

In my head I am trying to link the film to the other Alien franchise films, sorry but I have only read the later posts here so maybe repeating some of the earlier ones.

Its obvious Prometheus is set on a different planet (my understanding is that its a different moon of the same planet right?). So a crash site on a nearby moon makes sense to me in Alien…But assuming Prometheus is set before Alien, why was Shaws signal not the one pin pointed in Alien? Surely both signals would be picked up right?…so is it before Alien?

Tim, you started talking about Weland….you also mention we shouldn’t put the AVP movies into the mix. I don’t agree, this is how I see it….The earliest set film is AVP and then AVP2 follows straight on (can’t remember exactly but I think its almost present day, i will have to watch it again)and we see Weland played by the same Actor as the Bishop character in Aliens. Yes you are correct, there is no doubt he gets killed in this movie. My theory is that this is the very first Weland we are seeing here. Assuming Prometheus is pre-Alien I then think the old man Weland is probably his son (definitely think we will see his younger form android in any sequels, Guy Pearce I believe is the actor?) and yes I think you could be onto something saying he has a son also.

Questions are asked of why the crew of Prometheus are ill after their space sleeping….maybe this again points to the film being before Alien (so the technology has improved Come Ripleys generation), but then what about an android on board, as I think Tim mentioned, it wasn’t frowned upon like in Aliens. Having said that wasn’t this because of the android in Alien malfunctioning, wasn’t he kind of a spy android? I am going to watch all the films again to try and clarify the android and crew relationship.

From watching the film again I get the impression the cargo of black goo is an early form of the xenomorph eggs and the intervention of David has caused an evolution change to them via the birth/extraction from Shaw of either the first face hugger or specifically a queen generating face hugger (as we have never seen one of these have we??). Early in the film we see 2 worms under someones boot, I assume these become the 2 snake like creatures right? Genetically modified by the goo maybe? Any way you see one of these snake creatures enter the guys mouth similar to how we see the first face hugger enter the Engineers mouth. Maybe these snake creatures are the original face hugger but without the hugging? lol.
We see the snake swallowing man then become a creature that takes out half of the crew….reminded me of The Thing that bit lol.

Any way I am going on a bit.
I want to throw something else in the mix…..Earlier I mentioned AVP and that I think we shouldn’t throw this out of the picture, so I know ask what is the earliest sighting of a Xenomorph other than when AVP shows history of Xenomorphs in earths Pyramid structures? Answer is Predator 2. So the Xenomorph had already developed long before Prometheus throwing all the evolution stuff out the window, they already exist! Ah man, we need a sequel to get some answers ;)
One more last thing….Alien Resurrection is about DNA and evolution of Ripley as a cross breed, are the Engineers trying something similar?
    :) )

Keith, I had the same problem the first time I watched Prometheus. Then trying to figure out the Alien connection has caused me to watch it more times than I want to admit. lol
I think the worms turning into the snakes is correct. Thanks for answering why the show those worms. I thought in their snake form they did look A little like face huggers. Especially after it went down the guys thought, but if you notice it came back out and didn’t die. I may be wrong but it also looks like it grows a new head before it goes into the guys mouth.
As for Weland I watched the other movies trying to see if they give his first name. I can’t find them saying it in any Alien, or AVP movie. He may say it at the end of Aliens 3, but I can’t check because I sent the movie back to Netflix. I think it’s the worse film of the franchise. In the Prometheus movie he introduces himself as Peter Weland.
I’ve been watching the director’s cut, or extended cuts of the other movies. They have them on Netflix.
I’m just glad to see some one else agrees with me. AVP would have to be the first movie, but we must have switched from worshipping the engineers to worshipping the predators. Maybe that’s why the engineers didn’t come back, or wanted to destroy us.
Just so you know I just started righting on here too. So I’m sure we are covering things other people have already written. So what.
Maybe if we keep looking, and asking even the same questions we can get some answers, and hopefully when they make a sequel we can see if we are right.

Just took another look at AVP and when they show the picture of Mr. Weland on the magazine cover at the beginning of the film it shows his entire name. His first and last name appear in smaller letters above his last name. It’s “Charles Bishop” Weland. In Prometheus Mr. Weland introduces himself as “Peter” Weland. So Peter Weland must be Charles Weland’s son. I Can’t see Ridley Scott not knowing the first and middle name they used in AVP, and then decide to change Weland’s first name from Charles to Peter for no reason.
Also in Aliens 3 they call him Bishop 2 on everything I see on the web. I will still have to watch the ending credits again to make sure.

Just watched the extras/deleted scenes of Prometheus on blue-ray….Answers some peoples questions about the Prometheus film but not really the whole link to Alien we are all looking for. A mention of the Engineers losing control of their cargo and also Paradise is Shaws destination (Paradise being the Engineers home). I wont spoil the extras for everyone but they are worth a watch.
I haven’t watched any of these or the film with commentary because that sort of thing just doesn’t do it for me lol.
There is also an extra called “the Peter Weyland files” all a little strange until Peter Weylands Ted talk.

The link is really good. It does answers some questions, but raises or contradicts others. The big question is does Ridley Scott, or the makers of Prometheus have anything to do with the site? If they do it shows whether or not we should include the Alien sequels when looking for answers. SPOILER ALERT!!!
The picture of the “loader” shows Aliens is part of the story, But Weyland’s bio throws Charles Bishop Weyland pretty much out the window. The reference to the correctional facility would tie in with Aliens 3, but it wasn’t a facility to correct behavior. They were basically there for life because their behavior could not be corrected. I could be nit picking, but I believe it’s worth looking into.
I believe it does answer some questions, but now I think I’m more confused than before! lol

I believe the site is a genuine link to the Prometheus movie, if you try and join it then there is check boxes for Fox sending you other junk about movies. The site was probably created for the build up to the release of the movie…..surely Mr Scott would be aware of the site in this case?
You get to see Peter Weyland (Sir) in his young form (Guy Pearce, who really is ageing well and become a good actor….I remember him in Neighbours!…he’s also in Iron Man 3 recently).

The site indicates this Weyland was born in 1990, so a possibility of being Charles Bishop Weylands son looks good (“his father, a self-taught software engineer”) as AVP is set present day which at the time was 2004/5 I think (can’t believe thats nearly 10 years already!).
In AVP 2 we see at the end of the movie the Predator weapon in possession of suits….without watching it again I’m not sure but probably Weyland Industries people……so this could tie in with Peter Weyland at 14 years old and his first Patent (helped by the weapon technology perhaps?).

Another question….is the Bishop we see in Alien 3 human?….I have to say i’ve always thought not from the day I first watched.

AVP2 although not the best film in the world is interesting as it shows the xenomorph evolving again, not only in the way it looks but in the way it produces….no more face huggers.

Alien 3 is quite some years after 2042…..infact is their any reference to the year in Alien 3? I can’t remember, so the facilty could be the one mentioned (more research). Do we find out how long Ripley was in Cryogenic state before the crash? I know there is indication of an Alien on board which causes the crash so does that mean it was straight after Aliens?…..Oh no I’m questioning the original films now….What has this movie done to me!!!

I think the point is…Mr Scott has many questions he is yet to answer, sites like this can give him plenty of ideas (or others) for following films to keep the franchise going for a long time…..I know I’ll always be a fan, no matter how bad the movie lol.

I have a feeling that any sequels to Prometheus will be focused on the Engineers rather than the Xenomorphs…..Who knows though, maybe a trilogy that ends with the LV-426 ship?

Anyway I have now ordered the complete Alien Anthology again but on blue-ray in the hope of more answers ha ha!

OK, so now we know Fox is involved in the site. Also the Prometheus movie, and AVP.
    Problems? maybe;
At the beginning of AVP the show what is labeled on the screen as a “low earth satellite belonging to the Weyland corporation on 10-13 2004. It even says Weland on the satellite designated PS12.
The sit says the Weyland corporation is recognized as a legal “entity”, and corporation 10-11-2012. Answer; Maybe being recognized as an “entity” is special.
Peter Weyland is said to be born on 10-1-1990. So even though the site makes it look like he founded Weland Corp. it never really says that. It does say he was granted his 12th patent for a synthetic trachea at age 14 making the year 2004. The year Charles Bishop Weyland was killed, and was suffering from an illness that may have been cured by Peter’s new creation. Trying to save his father maybe?
Now some things on the site tie Charles Bishop to both movies. Remember I’m talking Prometheus, and AVP.
He’s a professor of “comparative mythology”, and self taught engineer. In AVP the pyramid which they say may be the first ever built has Aztec, Cambodian, and Egyptian features. Charles Weyland though is already in Charge of the Weyland corporation, and has plenty of money. The guide is told he will further her funding if she helps lead the team in Antarctica. The site says the corporation sets up new offices in several locations around the world including Antarctica 4-21-2035.
Another problem is the androids are known as Davids all through their development, and fashioned by Peter to give him a son on the site. It still doesn’t mean they didn’t develop androids that looked different. I.E. the one from Alien, and Bishop.
Problems; Why don’t they mention Peter was born to Charles Bishop Weyland founder or at least current CEO of Weyland Corp.?
When Weyland is recognized as “legal entity”, and corporation on 10-11-2012 Peter is only 22.
They don’t mention the death of Charles Weyland on the site. You would think they would mention his passing. Of coarse the timeline they present for the Weyland corporation is more of a bio for Peter. Answering why there is no mention of Charles.
Conclusion; Too many aspects on the site tie Weyland corp. to both movies to dismiss AVP as a separate movie with no connections. Same thing with the Alien sequels. Too much is mentioned that is straight from these movies too.
Now if I can just find out why they make it seem like Peter started the Weyland corporation instead of Charles I might make it to the Prometheus sequel without going nuts. I’m afraid though that it’s too late for that already. lol

    AVP 2 predator weapon;
They actually show the guy in the movie hand the predator weapon over to one of the soldiers. When it’s brought in by the suits the women that’s shown it says “The world isn’t ready for this technology”. The suit replies “But this isn’t for our world. Is it miss Yutani?” OMG! Never realized who she was until now. More answers! Yeah!!!
The site also says Weyland corp. 9-10-2014. first rifle able to track targets as well as determine targets health, physique, and if they can be locked downed.
6-3-2026, patent for method apparatus for self adjusting crosshairs.
Sounds like predator technology to me.
One more thing to look for.
The site mentions the 1 millionth employee is Dr. Richard Post, Chief statistician to electronics division. I’d say since they go through the trouble to mention him we should see if the name is mentioned in any of the movies. Damn! Now I have to watch Prometheus again! lol

Well I think that the Prometheus movie comes after all the alien franchise movies.

Alien vs Predator in the opening seen it shows a satellite PS12 with the Weyland logo on it, and it shows on the screen the date is 10-3-2004. Note it does not say Weyland-Yutani because they have not merged yet. They show Mr. Weyland in the beginning of the movie, and until he is killed. At the very end of AVP 2 they take the predator gun to Miss. Yutani. Separate corporations. So the AVP movies are first in the timeline.
On this very site it says Alien is around “roughly 2122″. it’s bellow the picture of Shaw leaning over with the wraps on her from when she was impregnated, and above the picture of David. Here’s the link. http://screenrant.com/prometheus-alien-connection-benk-176223/all/
In Aliens they say Ripley was asleep for 55 years. 2122 + 55 = 2177.
Ripley even says in the movie Burke sent the colonist to investigate the space ship on 6-12-79. Others have said Burke tells Ripley her daughter died in 2179. So that gives us the date for the original Alien movies. Since it says on the above link “roughly 2122″ the year 2179 is “roughly” around 2177.
Prometheus shows in took place in the year 2093. It shows the year in the beginning of the ships flight through space, and on the official site that Keith shared the link with on his last comment.
    So;
    Alien vs Predator: 2004
    Prometheus: 2093
    Alien: 2122
    Aliens: 2179

Sorry, forgot to say if you use the above link, scroll done to the numbers of pages and click on view all. That will take you to where under Shaw, and above David it says Prometheus is in the 2093. The original Alien movie is roughly 2122.

There is no date given in the original Alien movie anywhere. If you know where they show, or say it please let me know. Thanks

There are a lot of bogus Prometheus movie trailers out there, but this one looks like the real deal. Maybe?

The one question left that is almost impossible to explain is “BISHOP”, but I may have the answers.
In AVP he is shown as Charles Bishop Weyland. He also is killed in the movie the same year (2004) Peter Weyland receives his 12th patent. A patent for a synthetic trachea. So peter could have been working on this to save his father from an ailment that is shown he suffers from in AVP.
It’s his 12th patent because his father Charles and his company Weyland Corp. is funding Peter’s research. This would explain where a 14 year old Peter Weyland would be able to get the funds to do such research.
The official movie website says Peter was born to a an Oxford professor of comparative mythology, and self taught engineer. Leading one to believe they are describing the same persons accomplishments.
Now I believe it’s actually his mother, AND father they are talking about. His mother is the professor of comparative mythology, and his father Charles Weyland is the self taught engineer. This could also be why they call the aliens in Prometheus “engineers”. Her is the link to Peter Weyland’s birthday in the Weyland corp. Timeline on the official Fox/Prometheus website.
    http://www.weylandindustries.com/timeline
Now on other sites I’ve seen it said that Miss. Yutani is Peter Weyland’s mother. This does not fit as at the end of AVP 2 they hand over the predator weapon to a Miss Yutani. Weyland, and Yutani are separate corporations in the year 2004. Why 2004? (year not given in AVP 2) Because the predator’s ship crashes back to Earth after the aliens over run it and kill all the predators. This means Earth had to be the closest planet. So the year would still be 2004 or soon after as given in AVP.
So since Peter Weyland is already 14 years old in 2004 (born 1990) it’s doubtful Miss. Yutani could be his mother UNLESS she and Charles Weyland got together around the late 1980s and had Peter in 1990.
This means Peter grew up with his father, and not his mother. The above link also shows litigation is won by Weyland corp. over Yutani corp. when it comes to a suit over the patent rights to the David androids. Could it be both companies were developing androids that were originally made to look like Charles Weyland. Maybe Yuntani corp. made their androids to look like Charles, while Weyland made theirs to look like David. (Peter’s vision of his son) The David android could possibly do something so horrific in Prometheus 2 that no one wants a David android ever again. So they use the Bishop models in the future Alien movies after the original android in Alien proves to be a problem too when it comes to saving human life. So Bishop could still be the android in Aliens. One that has learned how precious human life is. Because after all Peter Weyland wanted to find out how to cheat death.
    Charles Bishop Weyland explained. Finally!?
So in conclusion to another long winded comment Prometheus 2 has a lot riding on what David does. I’m sure Ridley will make it something none of us will expect. All I do know is Ridley is working on the sequel said to be out sometime in 2015. Should be a GREAT ride!

Hopefully there will be a Prometheus 2 , if so , it probably will still have nothing to do with the sequels/franchises Alien spawned that Ridley had nothing to do with…

I agree that it will probably have little to do with the franchise movies, but Ridley Scott isn’t cutting all ties to the Aliens, and Alien vs Predator movies.
Why else would they show a picture of the same “loader” Ripley uses when she says my favorite line to the queen when trying to save Newt. “Get away from her you b****!” :-)
They also talk about terra forming planets which is also from Aliens. The machines they use look the same in Aliens, and on the website. The off world prisons they mention makes a connection to Aliens 3.
Even stating Peter Weyland’s synthetic trachea patent in 2004 fits perfectly with the year of the first AVP movie.
Why would they mention these small connections on the official website if they didn’t want them to have some connection to Prometheus.
I believe Ridley did this to draw in fans of the franchise’s movies so they wouldn’t feel “alienated”. (Sorry I had to say it.)
Now Ridley is going to take it in a whole new direction, and just deal with answering the question from the original movie. Who’s the guy in the chair on the alien ship. He showed us what one looks like. Now in Prometheus 2 he’ll explain who they are, and their purpose. I for one actually hope it takes more than one movie to answer ALL the questions.
Like the importance of Dr. Shaw still clinging to her cross, and David saying you still believe while conveniently having put it in his utility belt begs for answers. So does the fact that Dr. Shaw said the engineer that got his head cut off happened about 2000 years ago.
The time on earth when Jesus was crucified.
Like I said, I’m really looking forward to the sequel/sequels.

    Also, Dont Forget AVP
Prometheus is suppose to be the First Born Alien (As we know it) Species, which is suppose to be in the Future.

However, in AVP, They were around WAY Before that time. Thousands of Years ago.

    Slight Conflict.

Don’t forget about the mural on the wall in the room with the leaking vases. Dr. Shaw says their entering the room did something to the atmosphere , and the mural/murals are changing. Here’s a link to a screen Shot of the mural showing an Alien from Prometheus. http://pmraposo.blogspot.com/2012/10/prometheus-denver-airport-international.html

QUESTION; Was Meredeith Vickers a Robot????
Captain Janek asks her, but never gets an answer. He was just told to meet her in her room in 5 minutes. Who says a robot can’t have sex.
She walks with such great posture it’s robot like.
She shoves David into the wall with no problem when she wants to know what Mr. Weyland said. She obviously can’t stand David. Robot sibling rivalry maybe?
She wakes up from stasis and is doing pushups while everyone else is sick.
She calls Peter Weyland “father” not dad, and doesn’t seem to happy about it.
Her last name is Vickers, yet they call her Miss. Vickers. Not Mrs. Vickers.
    Why not Miss Weyland?
Mr. Weyland says David is the closest thing to a son he’ll ever have. Wouldn’t a flesh and blood daughter be the closest thing?
    Just Asking. :-)
