Amy Schumer will lead a new comedy; a new trailer for We Are Your Friends has been released; the Zombies vs. Robots film adaptation finds its writer; Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings join The Croods 2; Supergirl star Melissa Benoist lines up a new film; and new release dates for the Project X sequel Project XX and other films.
Amy Schumer has signed on to co-write and star in a new comedy for Fox, with Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) producing. Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele are rewriting a script by Katie Dippold, who wrote Feig’s The Heat.
Plot details of the new film have not been revealed, and a director isn’t currently attached. Schumer will make her big-screen starring debut in this summer’s Judd Apatow-directed comedy Trainwreck.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for co-writer/director Max Joseph’s new drama We Are Your Friends. The film – set in the Hollywood nightlife scene – marks Joseph’s directorial feature debut.
The film stars Zac Efron as a young DJ who ends up in a complicated relationship with both his mentor (Wes Bentley) and his mentor’s girlfriend (Emily Ratajkowski). We Are Your Friends hits theaters on August 28, 2015.

Screenwriter Craig Borten – who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Dallas Buyers Club – will write Inherit the Earth, the upcoming action film based on the IDW comic book series Zombies vs. Robots. Andrew Adamson (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) is attached to direct.
The film, as the title of its source material implies, centers on a team of robots on a mission to clone a surviving human baby and protect it from a horde of intelligent zombies. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is among its producers.
Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings have joined the voice cast of The Croods 2. The film – which follows the 2013 DreamWorks hit – will be released on December 22, 2017.
Mann will provide the voice for the matriarch of a rival family to the Croods, and Dennings will play her daughter. In additon, Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener and Clark Duke reprise their roles from the first film.
Melissa Benoist – who will play Supergirl in the upcoming CBS series – will star in a new film for Universal titled Lowriders. The film will focus on the Los Angeles-set world of lowrider cars and street tagging, with Ricardo de Montreuil directing.
Benoist beat out a number of other actresses, including Lily Collins and Nicola Peltz, for the role. She previously appeared in the Oscar-winning drama Whiplash and The Longest Ride. Lowriders will also Demian Bichir, Eva Longoria, Tony Revolori, Gabriel Chavarria, Theo Rossi and Yvette Monreal.
Warner Bros. has announced that Project XX – the sequel to 2012 hit Project X – will hit theaters on August 19, 2016. However, details regarding the possible return of the first film’s stars and director remain unclear.
The studio also revealed that Ben Affleck’s hit-man drama The Accountant will be released on January 29, 2016, the same day as Casey Affleck’s The Finest Hours. Furthermore, Miles Teller-Jonah Hill film Arms & the Dudes will arrive in theaters on March 11, 2016.
