Just before the end of 2009 we posted a featurette that went behind-the-scenes of the upcoming video game adaptation, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That video focused on the coveted dagger of time and the power that it holds within the story (why everyone wants it and all that), but today we have another one – courtesy of IGN – which focuses on the scale of the movie from the location to the special effects. And we have it hear for your enjoyment.

Prince of Persia is based on the video game of the same name and is about a Prince who comes across a mystical and powerful dagger that allows him to manipulate time. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. It’s directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and produced by mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean).

Check out the latest behind-the-scenes featurette below:

If you want to watch the video in higher quality you can head over to IGN.

I know that with the background of video game movies generally sucking that Prince of Persia is likely to follow suit. But I just can’t help but look forward to this one – all the special effects, the sets and the action look impressive and it’s always been one of those games that I thought would make an entertaining movie. I guess only time will tell (get it?) whether it’ll break the video game curse. Fingers (and toes) crossed.

Thoughts on the latest featurette? Do you think Prince of Persia can be the first truly good video game adaptation? Or is it fated to stink like most?

Prince of Perisa: The Sands of Time hits theaters on May 28th, 2010.

  1. Wow. I can't help but think this is going to be a great movie (knock on wood). The visual effects and sets look amazing! And the fact that Jerry Bruckheimer, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley are part of it makes it all the better to have faith in this movie. I am also a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal and the fact that the director (Mike Newell) also directed Harry Potter 4 makes it even better because that's one of my favorite Harry Potter films.

  2. I love the ending scene…his back flip works such as his parkour in the games. When he fall down through the hole is like his stunt in 'Prince of Persia the Two Thrones'. Looks they really´╗┐ put a hefty effort for once in a game to movie. This could be the turning point for gamers alike not to feel their game is butchered. The creater of this game Jordan Mechner did write the screenplay for this movie…what could go wrong?

  3. Lots, but I remain openly optimistic. It actually looks like a legit game to movie film.
