A striking first poster has been released for the upcoming comic book adaptation, Priest. The film is set in a world where humans and vampires have been at war for centuries, and it follows a priest who disobeys the church by going after a band of murderous vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Priest was originally set to be produced by Sam Raimi, star Gerard Butler, and released last year – however both Raimi and Butler evidently left the project some time before production started. It now stars Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) and Cam Gigandet (Twilight), and lies in the hands of director Scott Stewart, who’s also directing the upcoming Legion (also starring Bettany).
Stewart may not have that much directing experience, but the fact that his extensive visual effects credits include the likes of Superman Returns, Sin City and the two Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, certainly bodes well for the film. Check out below the brand new first poster for Priest:

This poster could be considered too vague with just this ‘passport photo view’ of Bettany, but the striking fire-orange color and the cross on Bettany’s forehead/nose make you sit up and take notice. It doesn’t really tell us much about the film’s plot, but at this point in time (with over a year to go before its release) it’s a good tease.
Priest is scheduled to hits theaters on August 13th in the US, and on September 24th in the UK, both in 2010.

Isn’t ne already doing an Angel movie Legion? Now a Priest movie (I vaguely remember when that comic came out, but not what it was about, I might even have it) I guess he lives religious themed stuff.
I just looked at some covers for the Priest comic, never seen or heard of it before I guess.
