Twentieth Century Fox is betting that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black can bring the Predator franchise back from a state of hibernation. The last film in the series, 2010's Predators starring Adrien Brody, garnered some positive reviews but was only a modest success at the box office and failed to create demand for more installments in the action franchise. Black wrote a script with veteran scribe Fred Dekker (Robocop 3) and is currently shooting The Predator with an eye toward a February 2018 release date.

If nothing else, Black has put together an impressive cast of actors to populate his rebooted Predator universe, including several big names who have appeared in other important franchise films. That cast continues to be filled out even as shooting on the secretive project is underway.

According to Deadline, another piece of the Predator casting puzzle has been put in place with the addition of actor Augusto Aguilera. The Predator's ever-larger cast also includes Thomas Jane (The Expanse), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu) and Yvonne Strahovsky (The Handmaid's Tale). Despite rumors, Arnold Schwarzenegger will not appear in a cameo.

Augusto Aguilera Chasing Life

Newest Predator cast member Aguilera's credits include the pilot for the Hulu drama Citizen, the Jeremy Sisto crime drama Ice and the upcoming John Singleton FX pilot Snowfall. Aguilera's biggest role to date was as Kieran on the Freeform (then ABC Family) drama Chasing Life. The actor has also appeared on the series Major Crimes and Criminal Minds.

Though the action and effects got all the attention at the time, casting was actually a huge part of what made the original Predator such a memorable movie. Beyond star Schwarzenegger, the muscular ensemble also included Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura and Elpidia Carrillo. And of course we can't forget about the most important actor of all, Kevin Peter Hall, the towering performer who brought the titular alien big game hunter to life. Black's reboot has arguably put together a more impressive - and certainly more diverse - cast than the first Predator.

Of course, all the good actors in the world can't make a movie work unless they have strong material. Past efforts to continue the Predator franchise have arguably fallen short in the story department, but hopefully Black and co-writer Dekker have avoided that potential pitfall by coming up with a solid script. The Predator is currently filming in Vancouver and there will be plenty more updates about this one in the weeks to come.
