I didn't read through all the previous posts so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. A REBOOT . . the franchise has already been broken down enough. I don't see why they cant come up with an extended story line where they connect the space jockeys from alien and the predator race. Such as . . . space jockeys harvesting alien eggs . . . predators use aliens for game . . . predators hunting space jockeys through space to acquire alien eggs so they can continue their coming of age rituals . . . seriously it would make more sense, be a extension of both franchises . . .and it would explain why the space jockey ship crashed on LV426 in the first place. And have James Cameron Direct it for gods sake . . .

If a new Predator movie does come out it better be out in space on a strange new planet. How we get there I dont know, maybe its the future and we have the technology like in Aliens. And this planet should be the predators home planet. Now why we are there? maybe a crash landing, maybe we purposely go there for some reason or maybe the predators somehow lure or trap us there to hunt. Its the only way I see the franchise continuing with an impact. Something somewhat different.

How about a variation on blipvert's idea to remake Star Wars?

With Zac Efron as Luke, Vanessa Hudgens as Leia...Samuel L. Jackson as Han Solo, and Robin Williams as Chewbacca (Have you SEEN how hairy that man IS???)

A singing, dancing extravaganza, from the geniuses that brought you HSM 1, 2, and 3...it's "Star Wars: The Musical", with lightsaber-boogie choreography by Kenny Ortega.

Perhaps an interesting way to attatch the "Preditor" franchise name to a real life scenario would be to have a film showing studio execs rooting through their libraries of film in the gloomy basement, hunting desperately through reel after reel for an already well executed concept that they could gut, ruin, and hang on their walls next to the remains of The Day The Earth Stood Still...

I weep for the future.

Maybe someone at Fox should spread the notion that calling this new entry a 'reboot' is totally unnecessary.
If you are changing the characters, story, setting, and other stuff, then why is there a need to send out a press release saying 'yes, we are rebooting the franchise', why not send out a PR form saying 'yes, we are making a NEW Predator film. This time, a team of elite commandos faces off against a group of Predators'? Make sense?
Hell, even if you are using Arnold's iconic Dutch character, there is no need to reboot the franchise, just tell the next story! Example, the military calls in Dutch to lead a commando team against this monstrous force which Dutch has faced before!
Doesn't that make sense to you guys?

@ Robert

The grandpa analogy is kinda creepy, but fitting.

BUT 'reboots' tend to go back to the source material and create something more in the sense of the original's original ... and by that I mean BOOKS.

A 'remake' normally changes hardly anything. Best (worst) example ... PSYCHO.

I think we could settle on 'reboots' being 'remakes' done right.

Can we? :-)

And concerning the Predator ... as long as they don't change the appearance of the Predator, it completely doesn't matter what they do. The new film can always be seen as a sequel.

But personally, I don't need a new Predator right now.
What I need is an Aliens vs Predator done RIGHT.
In space. Without humans.
It CAN work, people!

I always feel the term ''reboot'', is just a another word for ''remake''. It's like saying ''Grandpa has passed on'' instead of saying ''Grandpa is DEAD''. Anyway, I know a lot of you out there are pissed off that Predator is getting re-done, but honestly, I see no problem with it.

The first Predator flick was very well received, but since then, Predator never made a massive hit on screen again. Predator 2 got negative reviews and 14 years later, Predator came back to the big screen with AVP and Requiem, which was bashed by fans and critics. Predator needs a fresh start and bringing Robert Rodriquez into the mix is more than positive news.

LOL! You're right. Normally a Predator wouldn't even stoop so low as to hunt those people. They sure couldn't compare to Arnold, Carl Weathers, and Jesse "I ain't got time to bleed" Ventura. Where's the challenge? It's like hunting with dynamite.

And really? Being tracked through the city? THAT city? Who isn't already being tracked there? It's like hunters going to the zoo and bagging trapped animals.

I'll bet The Rock could kick some ass. I'd be fine with that. Especially if they related him to Arnie somehow.

Well, I've run out of analogies for now although it was fun.

I'd rather see a 3 than a horrible "remake" of something that doesn't need to be remade.

Love yout nick! I wonder how many will understand what it means & where it's from - WITHOUT having to look it up. ;)

I remember when they showed the (somewhat pilot) movie on British TV for the first time. Rather late at night (10.30pm or something) as far as I remember. I had missed the trailer/teaser and had NO idea what was coming there! And then it kept getting better and better!

Alas, still no release on DVD. :(

Sorry for off-topic, mates!

Yeah, this needs to stop. Is Hollywood so isolated that they don't know what we're saying out here? What Hollywood needs to do is "cool it" for awhile. Do a lot of small films, concentrate on getting some good, unknown scriptwriters and go from there. It'll all come back if they play it smart... but then, we're talking about Hollywood. I have no real hope.

I think the preditor range has been exhausted. As for which remakes to make, why a remake a bad movie? why not just a badly made, good movie? who's up for a big budget 'Toxic Avenger'?

No where's the fun in just annihilating your prey? That'd be like making Ted Nugent used a gun instead of a bow an arrow. You want to give the a fighting chance.

Humans just have better fighting skills then deer. That's why those rascally Preditors hut us instead of deer. :)

I'm sure that on Planet Predator they have a fishing and gaming committee just like we do here and they wouldn't be allowed to over hunt the planet and wipe out an entire species. It's not like we're their enemies. They choose to hunt here.

@ Ken J

Bored Predators that bugger off at the end of the movie ... THAT would be so much cooler than anything Hollywood can come up with.

@ greenknight

I own EVERY BOLL FILM on DVD AND BluRay.
I even have a shrine, a signed autograph and some worn shorts of him that I pray to every day before I get to sleep.

Damn, that was so obvious?

Ok, I don't own ANY Boll film and he is the embodied antichrist of film.
It's simply fascinating how he can turn the smartest, most thought out concept into a piece of hollow crap.
I stand in awe of his work. In the most negative way possible. :-)
