With the success AMC has had bringing the stories of The Walking Dead from comic book page to television, it's not surprising that the network is not only developing a spinoff for that series but also bringing another comic book to life with Preacher. An adaptation of the title has long been rumored, but it looks like the project is really gathering steam.

The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-produced project follows a small-town preacher named Jesse who is possessed by a supernatural creature and develops the ability to command anyone he meets. The show has recently begun casting, with Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) already on board as Tulip O'Hare and fellow Marvel star Dominic Cooper reportedly being eyed for the lead role of Jesse. Now we can add another confirmed cast member to the show.

According to Deadline, Ian Colletti has signed to play Eugene Root, also known as Arseface, on Preacher. The character is a horribly disfigured young man who looks up to Jesse and maintains an earnest attitude despite being hated by the surrounding townspeople. By the sounds of it, the role appears to be a large one, as Eugene, Tulip and Jesse will embark on a journey to literally find God.

Colletti may still be an up-and-comer, but the young actor has been slowly building a solid resume, with a starring role in 2013 film Jimmy and a major role on the short-lived Fox comedy Rake already under his belt. At this point, it's difficult to gauge exactly how well he will fit the role - especially since there's no telling how closely the Preacher series will hew to the source material - but AMC has certainly demonstrated an eye for interesting talent both behind and in front of the camera, at least thus far.

The idea of Rogen and Goldberg - better known for goofy comedies like This Is the End and The Interview - putting together a comic book series as thematically and mythologically rich as Preacher has always seemed like a crazy idea, especially since the property spent years in development hell prior to earning the green light from AMC. However, the show appears to be gaining momentum, and there's a distinct possibility that out-of-left-field casting choices like Negga and now Colletti will pay off when the show airs. Only time will tell.
