It's been a long road, but Saban's Power Rangers launches later this week, promising plenty of brightly colored suits and awesome Zords. While the movie may be new, the Power Rangers franchise has been running for more than 20 years and we've seen dozens of Zords already.

The show is rather loose with its own canon and offers little in terms of concrete comparisons or ways to measure the power of the various zords. So in order to compile this list, we relied on a variety of factors including longevity, versatility, and simply how impressive the Zords appeared to be. It's far from a perfect system, but it does give us something to go on other than the rule of cool.

Here are the 15 Most Powerful Zords (And Megazords) In Power Rangers.

15. T-Rex Zord

Power Rangers T Rex Old Vs New

Nine times out of ten, when you see an individual Ranger’s Zord do battle, it’s going to be the Red Ranger’s zord mainly because the Red Ranger is the team’s leader. Throughout the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the one solo Zord that we saw fight on a regular basis was the Red Ranger’s T-Rex Zord.

Most of the time, the five Zords would solely be used to form the Megazord, but there were occasions where the T-Rex Zord was forced to fight on its own. While never as powerful as the Megazord or rarely, if ever, capable of defeating monsters on its own, it was always really impressive to see it stand on its own.

Admittedly, part of the reason it got so much screen time was solely due to the way it was made. Its bipedal design made it easier to work as a solo Zord than most of the others.

14. White Tiger Zord

Tommy Oliver was the original 6th ranger and was the longest-serving Power Ranger in the history of the franchise. His first incarnation was as the Green Ranger, but his powers were eventually stolen during the Green Candle arc. After this point, Tommy was temporarily rendered powerless, but in the episode “White Light” he was reborn as the White Ranger and along with his powers, he was granted a new Zord, the White Tigerzord.

Like the T-Rex Zord and Dragonzord, the White Tigerzord is capable of fighting on its own. However, the truly unique thing about this Zord is the way it benefits from Tommy’s martial arts training. Rather than merely sitting in the cockpit and pressing buttons or flicking switches, the Tigerzord is actually programmed to mimic Tommy’s movements so that when he punches, the Zord punches. It’s a clever way to take advantage of Tommy’s skills and sets the Tigerzord apart from the fighting style of the Dragonzord.

13. Dragonzord

They say that you only get one chance to make a first impression and the Dragonzord does not disappoint as it rises out of the sea like Godzilla ready to devastate the Power Rangers and devastate them it did. During the “Green With Evil” arc, the possessed Tommy Oliver used the Dragonzord to devastating effect, even defeating the powerful Megazord.

While we would see more and more Megazords fall as the series went on, this was a pretty disturbing sight the first time we saw it. Eventually, Tommy was freed from Rita’s control and the Dragonzord became a force for good, but that first impression never quite faded from our minds.

Generally speaking, the Zords in Power Rangers get more powerful as the series progresses, but in the case of the Dragonzord, it is arguably more powerful than the later Tigerzord.

12. Dino Megazord

Megazord

No list of Power Rangers Zords would be complete without the Dino Megazord.  The first Zord to piloted by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Dino Megazord is synonymous with Megazord and is by far the most iconic in the series.

Formed from a combination of the five Dino Zords, this Megazord defeated more than 50 of Rita Repulsa's evil monsters before being taken down by Lord Zedd. Despite its eventual defeat, the Dino Megazord made a lasting impact on the series and established the use of a powerful finishing move by way of the Power Sword.

It is arguable that the Dragonzord is more powerful than the Dino Megazord, since the Dragonzord did defeat it in combat, but the Megazord defeated more of Rita's monsters and was reconfigured into the more powerful Thunderzord.

11. Wild Force Megazord

The Wild Force Megazord appeared in Power Rangers Wild Force and was one of the more versatile Megazords to appear on the list. Like the various beasts from which it was formed, the Wild Force Megazord was a ferocious and primal defender of nature. Throughout its tenure, it defeated numerous evil monsters.

However, raw strength alone can only take you so far and when you’re battling giant monsters intent on destroying the planet, it is important to be able to adapt and the Wild Force Megazord is certainly capable of that. When necessary, the Wild Force Rangers can call upon the Elephant Zord which will form a sword and shield. The blade can even transform into a powerful energy whip allowing the Rangers to ensnare their foes.

While the Elephant Zord’s sword and shield mode were the most commonly used forms in this Zord's arsenal, it was far from the only one. The Wild Force Megazord was capable of transforming itself into several different alternative modes in order to handle the ever-changing fight against evil.

10. Shogun Megazord

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was the first and the longest running series in the history of the Power Rangers franchise. As such, the Rangers went through several sets of Zords before the series ended. One such set were the Shogun zords. Originally discovered by the minions of the.evil Lord Zedd, the Shogun zords were intended to be used against the Rangers.

Eventually, of course, the Rangers were able to obtain control of the Shogun Megazord for themselves. In terms of raw power, the Shogun Megazord was one of the more powerful Megazords of the original series. It was slow and lumbering, but packed quite a punch and was often able to destroy monsters with a single swipe of its fiery sword.

However, despite its impressive power, the Shogun Megazord ranks fairly low on this list because it didn’t last very long. It only appeared for 16 episodes before taken out so, in terms of monsters defeated, it ranks fairly low on the list.

9. Ninja Megazord

You know what’s awesome? Giant robots. You know what’s also awesome? Ninjas. So logically one would assume that combining those two things would result in the most awesome thing ever and, for the most part, you’d be correct. Whereas the Shogun Megazord was like an iceberg, slow and powerful, the Ninja Megazord was more akin to a lightning bolt, fast and deadly.

The Ninja Megazord was the third Megazord configuration used by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers replacing the Thunderzords which were destroyed by Rita’s brother, Rito. The loss of the Thunderzords forced the Rangers to seek out Ninjor, the being who originally created power coins and first set of Zords.

After Master Vile succeeded in sending the Rangers back in time, they lost the location of the Ninja Zords. Tommy mentions that Ninjor returned to his temple, but the Zords themselves are gone. Due to an offhand comment made by Billy during the Zeo era, it is possible that the Ninja Zords were used in the construction of new Zords, but it is possible he was referring to the original Zeo Zords.

8. Super Zeo Megazord

After the end of the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Rangers lost the power coins and were forced to discover a new source of power to fight off the evil Machine Empire. Luckily for them, they had access to the Zeo Crystal a source of seemingly limitless power and the Super Zeo Megazord certainly lends credence to that theory.

While most Zords aren’t able to do much individually, the Super Zeo Zords were each able to destroy one of the Machine Empire’s upgraded monsters single-handedly. When combined, there were very few monsters capable of standing up to this Zord. In fact, as we re-watched the series, we noted that the fights often seemed a bit one-sided, but, again, this make sense since it had previously been established that the Zeo powers would continue to get more powerful over time. In fact, it was the Super Zeo Megazord that eventually defeated King Mondo and overthrew the Machine Empire.

7. Super Zeo Ultrazord

Blue Ranger, Pink Ranger, Red Ranger, Yellow Ranger, Green Ranger

Most of the battles in power rangers are won by the various megazords, but, drastic times call for drastic measures and nothing says drastic times like the the Super Zeo Ultrazord. Formed from a combination of the Super Zeo zords and the powerful Pyramidas, the Super Zeo Ultrazord is one of the most powerful zords of the Zordon-era. In fact, we’d argue that it is the most powerful Zord of the Zordon era.

For starters, this thing is massive, towering over most of the servant of the Machine Empire and capable of firing devastating blasts of energy that could easily wipe out a flight of the Machine Empire’s fighters. Had the Super Zeo Ultrazord been available during the United Alliance of Evil’s invasion of Earth, we suspect Bulk and Skull’s heroism wouldn't even have been necessary. Of course, this line of thinking just makes us wonder why the Rangers lost the Zeo powers during Turbo, but that’s a discussion for another time.

6. Omega Megazord

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue team posing for a fight

In Greek, “Omega” means last and based on its power and versatility, the Omega Megazord is the last megazord any team of Rangers will need. Wielded by the Lightspeed Rescue rangers, the Omega Megazord defeated dozen of Queen Bansheera’s demonic minions.

When called to battle, the Omega Megazord wields the powerful Omega Staff. This powerful weapon is effective in both ranged and melee combat. When forced to fight at close quarters, the staff has a razor-sharp blade capable of slicing foes to ribbons. However, distance is no guarantee of safety when facing off against this powerful force of justice as the Omega Staff is able to launch a devastating barrage of missiles that will lay waste to Bansheera’s evil servants.

Unlike most megazords, which often make use of a separate transport vessel, the Omega Megazord is capable of transforming itself into a rapid response vehicle. This is rather fitting considering Lightspeed Rescue’s emergency response theme.

5. The Timeforce Time Travel Zord

This one is a bit of a cheat and rather speculative, but we love the potential of time travel so we had to include it on this one the list. This unknown Zord was never used in battle and only served to send the Time Force Rangers gear and weapons, but since it is a time machine, it is theoretically the most powerful Zord of them all since it could destroy any of the other Zord while they were being built.

The specifics of how time travel works in Time Force are never quite made clear. The very name Time Force Rangers implies that they travel throughout time to track down threats, but Ransik and his minions seem legitimately surprised to see them in in the 21st century. One could argue that they don’t interfere with time too much, but their actions clearly have an impact on the 21st century so it’s theoretically possible that this Zord could be used to destroy Rita or any other villain before they became a threat.

4. Isis Megazord

It could be argued that we should include Animus in this spot instead of the Isis Megazord since Animus is a Megazord god, but we decided not to include him due to the fact that he’s actually a sentient being and he was never piloted by the Wild Force Rangers. With that in mind, we went with the second most powerful Zord to appear in Wild Force, the Isis Megazord.

The Isis Megazord is easily one of the most powerful and versatile Zord seen in the franchise’s history. Capable of independent fight thanks to its two wings, it can quickly traverse the battlefield getting the drop on foes with its powerful spear attacks.

The most powerful aspect of this Zord, however, is the so-called Isis Stare which fires beams of light from the eyes upon its wings. Rather than simply dealing damage, these beams paralyze their opponent leaving them open to a powerful finishing blow.

3. Delta Base Megazord

In a fight, size and raw power aren’t everything, but they certainly don’t hurt as demonstrated by the awe-inspiring Delta Base Megazord. The size of a skyscraper, the Delta Base Megazord towers above the Delta Squad Megazord.

Given that the Delta Base is first and foremost a base, it doesn’t have much in the way of melee weapons, but it more than makes up for that with its overwhelming firepower. The Delta Base Megazord fires powerful laser beams from its finger tips and knees. Sure, it’s a bit over the top, but it’s also totally awesome. It’s finishing move involves, you guessed it, more lasers. Namely, a massive wave of energy fired from its chest. This blast is more than capable of obliterating most monsters.

In addition to the standard Megazord formation, the Delta Base can also transform into the Delta Command Crawler. A giant mobile fortress equipped with twin laser cannons. We’re sensing whoever built this Zord really likes lasers.

2. Quantasaurus Rex

The Quantasaurus Rex, or Q-Rex as it is commonly called, is the most powerful Zord featured in the Time Force series and reminds us of a more advanced version of Tommy’s Dragonzord. Originally created by Time Force from a futuristic material, the Zord was presumed lost in the time stream until it was discovered by Eric, the Quantum Time Force Ranger.

Unstable and difficult to control, the Q-Rex was capable of defeating the Time Shadow and Time Force Megazord before Eric gained control.

The Q-Rex comes in two modes. Its first form is the standard T-Rex configuration that comes equipped with twin mounted lasers. While not as powerful as the megazord mode, we prefer it simply because it is always awesome seeing an individual Zord hold its own.

The Q-Rex’s Megazord mode transforms it into one of the most powerful Zord in the series and grants it access to devastating attacks in the form of its rocket launcher Thunder Fist attacks. The twin laser cannons on its back have been replaced with cyro-cannons allowing it to freeze and easily dispatch evil mutant monsters.

1. Serpentera

Most of the time, the monsters simply choose to enlarge themselves to do battle with the Rangers. Sometimes, though, the villains decide to take a page from the Rangers’ book and get a Zord of their own. When they do, the result is devastating.

The sheer size of Serpentera alone would make it a terrifying foe. Resembling a giant dragon, this colossal engine of destruction easily dwarfs the Zords commanded by the rangers and could probably simply crush them like insects if it wished.

Serpentera's size is eclipsed only by its raw firepower. Lord Zedd’s personal war machine is capable of firing devastating blasts of energy capable of destroying a planet. It’s like a mobile dragon-shaped Death Star. Of course, like the Death Star, it also has a fatal flaw. Namely, the fact that it consumes so much energy that it always loses power before Zedd is able to finish off his foes.
