All has been quiet on the Terminator 4 front lately - or to give the film its correct, and frankly ridiculous, title: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
When McG signed on to direct the film there was terror amongst fans of the franchise, this was however calmed, when Christian Bale was signed as John Connor.
I still can’t get over that pairing, Bale and McG… so either the script is an absolute gem, McG can brainwash people or Bale has just bought a huge house, and he needs cash for the down payment.
We then heard stories that Bale’s part would be very small, and that the lead character would be a chap called Marcus. Marcus, by the way is a character so important that he hasn’t been mentioned at all, in three films over the course of 20 years.
Anyway, before I go off on a total tangent, the213.com had a chat with McG about the film and when they asked him who his ideal Terminator would be he said:
“There’s[sic] guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, (who can) bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we’ll see.”
Strange choices. So, what are the chances?

Well, I don’t believe that Crowe would touch this. However, saying that - six months ago, who would have thought Christian Bale would sign up? He also might want to re-team with Bale following 3.10 To Yuma, so there is a chance.
Eric Bana, well the dude did star in The Hulk, so there is a chance that he can pick bad material. Also, his role in the new Star Trek is supposed to be much smaller than previously believed, so he might be looking for a rent-paying lead role!
Josh Brolin is interesting. He’s the flavor of the month in Hollywood right now and McG’s smile would indicate that he’s high on the list. This is also the kind of role that could put him on the A-list, so he seems a likely choice.
What I find quite funny is that Brolin’s father, James was a dead ringer for Christian Bale when he was younger, in fact both were in the running for James Bond- remember that fact fans!
McG also tells the site that they’re currently prepping the movie, and that they want to do some more work on the script after the strike, which may or may not be coming to a close.
As always none of this is set in stone yet, and for all we know, they could go for a left-field choice, like maybe Drew Barrymore. You might laugh, but hey- she did work with McG twice on the Charlie’s Angels movies, and they also had a female terminator in the last film.

hahaha Niall your posts on this site always crack me up.
it is kinda weird that they would mention those actors. Josh Brolin is only 40, but he doesn’t seem to age well. I guess if he was motivated he might be able to get beefed, or at least cut. doesn’t the actor have to be a big guy since the old terminators are bulky?
Why do I have a very, very, VERY BAD feeling about this movie?? I wish they just stopped the movies after T2.
I say use unknown actors and use the money saved on the fx and story.

Brolin is a great choice, but I personally hope he wouldn’t take the film. Yes, he’d be getting a big paycheck most likely. And this would really get him out there in the public eye (i.e. mainstream film-goers!)
But the doors have really opened for him since his killer year with NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, AMERICAN GANGSTER, IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH and PLANET TERROR. Now he’s got MILK and BUSH coming up, and things can only get better for now (i.e. Brolin talked about meeting with Speilberg about doing something on AMC’s SUNDAY MORNING SHOOTOUT!)

What about The Rock? I’ve always thought he would make a perfect Terminator. The problem I really have with this new film is the director; he’s not known for great work. And I agree, just call it T4.
