Today we have a bunch of new posters for you that have appeared online over the lat few days or so. They include posters for Saw VI and a new George Clooney film, Up in the Air, a couple of special ones for Inglourious Basterds, and a couple foreign language ones for [REC] 2 and Shutter Island. Check them all out below.

First up is the new poster for the upcoming next installment in the successful torture-porn horror Saw franchise, Saw VI. I’m not going to waste much time in saying this franchise lost what made it interesting long ago.

However, what I must admit is they sure do know how to design cool-looking posters for these movies. Last time we had the “Blood Bank” posters that have been used since the first movie, but not this time. No, this time we have a rather ingeniously designed and creepy-to-look-at poster that merges an old pair of gloves with human hands. Oh, if only the actual Saw movies were as good as the posters they come up with for them. Check it out:

I’m guessing the poster is supposed to symbolize the fact that someone else is taking over for Jigsaw by (figuratively speaking) putting on his gloves. It seems like an obvious idea to put on a poster and yet no one has really picked up on it and employed it before. Nice.

Saw VI hits U.S. theaters on October 23rd, 2009.

Next we have a couple of special posters/pieces of artwork for Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, Inglourious Basterds. Although not official, I’d say these nonetheless count as the last “ads” for the film before it opens everywhere tomorrow.

The two posters were designed by Tyler Stout, who’s other movie poster works include the likes of Big Trouble in Little China, The Big Lebowski and Robocop (you can check out his work here). These two Basterds posters are done in his usual style, and are pretty damn incredible. Check them both out:

As stated, Inglourious Basterds opens in theaters everywhere tomorrow, Friday, August 21st.

Martin Scorsese’s latest film (and fourth time working with Leonardo DiCaprio) is Shutter Island, a mystery thriller set in a mental institution. The first trailer for it was atmospheric and creepy, although it showed far too much (I’m pretty sure it gives away one of the key twists). The posters we’ve seen so far have failed to impress, with them using the tired and ineffective “floating heads” thing (I understand it shows off the star, DiCaprio, but it looks cheap and ruins the poster).

Today we have a Japanese poster for Shutter Island, which doesn’t employ the floating heads thing and is a helluva a lot better off for it. It shows the titular Island itself, although it looks to be stuck together from various different places, like some sort of scrapbook entry. Take a look:

Man, I wish that poster could be used to advertise the film over here.

Shutter Island opens on October 2nd in the US, and on October 9th in the UK, both in 2009.

Next up we have a teaser poster for the upcoming Spanish-language horror sequel, [REC] 2. If you haven’t seen the first [REC], I highly recommend you giving it a watch. When I saw it for the first time in theaters, it was the single scariest horror film experience I’d had since The Descent. Admittedly, it’s lost a bit of its edge in subsequent viewings, but it still stands up as a brilliant piece of modern horror filmmaking.

The sequel takes place straight after the last one ended which is the very definition of throwing us into the horror deep end (if you’ve seen the first one you’ll know exactly what I mean by that). This poster is basically just a teaser, in the same vein as the one they released for the first movie. I like that they’re keeping it low-key and consistent like that. Take a look:

BTW, the Spanish text translates to: “You dare to return?”

[REC] 2 is playing at the Toronto Film Festival next month, and opens in its home country of Spain in early October. There’s currently no date set for a U.S. or UK release.

Last up we have the first official poster for Up in the Air, the newest film from Juno and Thank You for Smoking director, Jason Reitman. The film stars George Clooney as a man who’s “cherished life on the road” is threatened just as he’s about to reach ten million frequent-flyer miles and just  met the “frequent-flyer woman of his dreams.” The film co-stars Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Anna Kendrick, Melanie Lynskey and Danny McBride.

There was already a teaser poster for Up In The Air released at the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam a few months back, which was done in the style of Saul Bass (Catch Me If You Can comes to mind). This latest one shows off Clooney in the lead (as well as other cast members), albeit with his back turned, far away and clearly photoshopped. However, I dig it nonetheless. Check it out:

Up in the Air arrives in theaters sometime in December, 2009.

So there you go, another batch of movie posters. Which is your favorite?
